We stayed for several days and wanted to bring the New Year in and I am so glad we chose to stay here at this bed and breakfast. We have been to Philadelphia several times and have stayed at several places but without a shadow of a doubt this has been the best place we have stayed at so far. As soon as you walk in there is a dining area which is set up for breakfast in the morning and a parlor area with plenty of seating areas. It was decorated with most beautiful Christmas tree, with a beautiful fire place. We would normally grab a seat there as we grabbed a complimentary coffee or tea along with a cookie or glass of wine. As other guests come in they would often join to talk. The innkeeper often joined us to chat and was a great host. We stayed in room 402-the Robert Fulton room, it was plenty large enough with a comfortable full bed. The bathroom was quite spacious. The room was really nice and quaint. My girlfriend loved the room. It was perfect! The only thing I did not necessarily like was the fact that we had to climb the 4 flights of stairs whenever we left or came back to the room. Regardless, the stair climbing did not take away from the charm. Every days we were there we had breakfast-coffee, toast, baked goods, yogurt and fruits. We loved our stay there and will absolutely come back on our next visit.

Staying overnight in Old City is such a great experience and where better than a historic B&B! The building and rooms were excellent. The parlor was great and allowed us to add a couple of games of chess to our trip. The complementaries were a super touch! And of course Craig and Don were great to chat with. There is a friendly cat in the house that helps to ensure that no guests without reservations enter (and to help referee any chess games). The location is perfect and allows for walking access to all the historic stops in Old City, Chinatown, Reading Terminal Market and Penns Landing - not to mention all the great restaurants nearby.

Period correct house that is beautifully done! My wife and I stayed for a week and absolutely LOVED the history of Philly and of Thomas Bond House. Craig (Inn Keeper & Manager) was FANTASTIC! He is warm and welcoming (not to mention he bakes fresh cookies each night) and is eager to help with anything you may need. From restaurant recommendations to places to see, he can point you in the right direction. The Thomas Bond House B&B is a GREAT alternative to a hotel in Old City Philly centrally located to everything. My wife and I walked everywhere averaging roughly 7 miles a day looking at the different historical markers, museums, and vibrant history of Philadelphia including foodie locations. I would highly recommend the Thomas Bond B&B - great experience and wonderful staff!!

This cozy b&b was so much more fun than the standard hotels in the area we almost stayed at for our Philly trip. The room was rustic but clean and had all the amenities we needed. Craig was so helpful in making us feel welcomed. It's located in walking distance of a lot of great restaurants, historic sites, and a ghost tour. Warm cookies at night and a complimentary hot breakfast from Dan on the weekends (continental breakfast on other mornings). Do note that there's a cat that lives on the premises. Would stay again for sure.

Breakfast room of Thomas Bond B and B. Lovely breakfast provided every morning.

I always search an area for location before booking. If you are going to Philadelphia for the historical sites this is the place to stay! Central to Independence Hall, American Revolution Museum, and Betsy Ross Museum. History will be on every street corner in this neighborhood. Numerous excellent restaurants are just steps away and Penn's Landing just down the street. Craig, the host of the B&B, is outstanding and was helpful with all our questions. Enjoy evening adult beverages and warm cookies before bed. Meet George, the cat. Yes, the price may be a little more than other lodging choices in the city, but you will miss a once in a lifetime experience if you don't stay here.

I agree with previous posts that raved about this place. I am only going to add more points that haven't been mentioned before: * Comfortable bed in a room with AC, and complimentary Wi-Fi!!!! Old creature comfort with modern technology. "Huzzah" As Ben Franklin himself would say. * Friendly and helpful inn keepers, give you directions, tips and suggestions about the nooks and crannies of the local points of interest. * Located in the Old City within walking distance to all historical sites. Public transportation are also easily accessible. * Surrounded by restaurants, taverns, hip bars. There are crowds at night but not rowdy (we stayed during weekdays), no noise to bother us sleeping. * Several guests were repeat customers (a good sign). A note of warning: The rooms are in the 2nd, 3rd & 4th floors and there is no elevator. Consider this carefully when choosing your rooms and/or when packing your luggage. (The inn keeper was very nice and had no qualm in helping us lift our stuffs but one would hate to impose).

If I already dropped hundreds of dollars on my hotel room, the last thing I want to do is spend more money on parking. I understand this is the norm for the area. We couldn't fit our truck in the next door parking lot, so we had to walk our suitcases about 3 mins over to the next lot which was roughly $50 for an overnight spot. Lemon water was provided in the lobby and muffins were available for breakfast. Check in was simple. The room itself was quaint and the thermostat was very responsive. Just a few things to note... there was no fridge, microwave, or coffee maker in the room. The tub is beautiful, but the jets didn't work. The tv is in an armoire which is pleasing to the eye, but unfortunately not that functional since the doors don't stay fully open and you can't see the tv from across the room. There's also only one nightstand so for two people, it's a little inconvenient. The fireplace was a nice touch, and it was functional, and the balcony is cool to have but it was so small you could hardly stand and definitely no room to put a chair out there. Once we figured out how to get the shower on, the water was hot, so that was a plus, however the bathroom door didn't lock. I'd recommend this hotel if you just need a comfortable place to spend a night, and you're not concerned about your budget.

I thought the front desk staff and management were fantastic, the room was cozy, the old wood flooring throughout the rooms was well maintained and homey. The shower temperature and pressure were perfect. We didn't have the opportunity to check out happy hour at the wine bar, but it looked like a fantastic deal. The decor throughout the hotel was elegant and welcoming. We didn't bring a car, but I know they offer valet to a lot right beside the building. I can't wait to return.

I was born and raised in Philly and was here for work. This place had everything, as well as lovely surprises. 1) Location! 2) Friendly staff 3) Super comfortable bedding (How are the sheets that soft? What are those magical pillows?) 4) An extra blanket for those of us who get cold 5) Ample closet space 6) Liberty Bell-shaped waffle iron (!) 7) Hot chocolate station in the lobby with numerous toppings/additions (!) 8) Lots of tea options at the lobby coffee/tea station 9) Nightly cookies that were yum-town 10) Something was wonky with my reservation: Either I added an extra day or they did, but they refunded me either way. We couldn't figure out what had happened. 11) Security. After a certain time at night (was it 10 pm?) you need to get buzzed in or use your key card. Thanks so much IPH! Overall it was a good location if you're going to visit the Liberty Bell and other America type things. The breakfast consisted of some yogurt hard boiled eggs, over ripe bananas, you can make yourself a Liberty Bell waffle, scrambled eggs that seemed like they weren't really eggs... it was weird. Bacon, and potatoes which were always gross. Anyway it was good to have the breakfast available. There wasn't really any breakfast places close by.

My husband really liked the historic appeal, and I liked the proximity to the historic sites. I also liked the promise of the continental breakfast and the images we saw promised more, but more on that later. When we arrived in Philadelphia, we assumed that the "L" would bring us quicker to the hotel and closer than what we were informed. We were told by the hotel staff to get off at the 8th and Market stop, but instead followed the conductor's instructions, who told us to get off at Jefferson station, which we did. From the fashion shops at that station to the hotel, it was perhaps a few blocks or a 10 minute walk. We didn't mind, but I wouldn't consider this if I were traveling with children or a lot of luggage. The hotel is located in an alleyway, and not what I pictured. There is a tall, modern apartment building in front of it and it is really close to a hospital, and lots of other very tall modern buildings. The hotel, like other old historic buildings, including nearby Independence Hall, are all surrounded by tall and modern buildings, again not what I pictured. The staff at this hotel weren't on the same page as far as narrating this hotel's interesting history. The young lady who gave us a slight tour and showed us our room didn't tell us the history, such as an older woman who also works at the hotel gave other people some detail I had to listen in on. The hotel is old and very classy. It is definitely a boutique hotel and not a place to stay with children. Our first room was delightfully beautiful. However, the mattress wasn't comfortable, and it felt as if we were sinking head down. We were in room 201 and found that you can hear street traffic from 8th street and particularly the after-hours door, shutting and closing pretty well to keep from a good night's sleep. I would suggest that the hotel fix the after hour's door problem because it's not only that people aren't cognizant of others sleeping above when they enter but that the door is truly noisy, especially when you must shut it firmly to make sure that it is shut. The manager, fortunately, was accommodating and had reassigned us a different room on the other side of the hotel, away from the street and with a more comfortable bed. The continental breakfast was satisfactory, to say the least. There was yogurt, muffins, bagels, small box cereal, small bonabell cheese, coffee, milk, and OJ. The eggs were what I found disappointing. I had seen elsewhere images of small quiches for breakfast, but instead, they had hardboiled eggs. This is not your continental breakfast that you get with waffles at Holiday Inn. There is a restaurant on site, but it opens for lunch and dinner, and I don't recommend it. I reviewed this separately. We ended up going to La Pien cafe and bakery down the street and also found a Starbucks nearby. The best part about this hotel was how close it is to Independence Hall, Congress Hall, and, of course, Liberty Bell. I would recommend staying here if you've never been to Philly and want to visit the historic landmarks. F.Y.I take the Flash (a bus that can be located at the Visitor's center directly behind Liberty Bell). It costs like $5 a day for all main stops and was free the next day after the 4th of July.

A newcorollary is I'd skip a 2.5 star pizza place but would be fine with most 2.5 star hotels. Wyndham is getting hit by the Urban Parking Penalty. This isn't the place for me to discuss the obnoxious elements of car culture or even its occasionally-annoying opponents. I don't have a car but when I did I never expected cheap parking in any major city. More esoterically, Wyndham's rating is getting dinged by one-time events that are statistically unlikely to afflict your trip. And the ratings are balanced out by the swooning that might follow a glamorous Omni or a buzzy mid-market location like Tru by Hilton. The room was large and clean. The workers were friendly. There's no rooftop pool or Conga Line Tuesdays. The TV doesn't have 800 channels and to my knowledge wasn't "smart." Geography note: Old City is pleasant. It's not far from the 5th St. subway stop; during off-peak hours I'd prefer to walk up 4th or even use the 2nd St. stop. This is less than a mile than the most important tourist attraction in America, the Reading Terminal Market.
