The library provides free books and iPads for students. ‼However, opinions about the teachers vary. I have never encountered a worse teacher than German Bermudez! He is very arrogant, unfriendly, and the atmosphere in his class is always tense! He speaks with a strong Latin accent, and he never explains new words. He always speaks quickly, and he gives strict deadlines for homework that you can't complete (on an iPad), which other teachers don't do. As I was informed, he used to be a student and now he's a tutor, which is why he has a sense of grandeur. I am very disappointed that the college doesn't have control over who they hire... Additionally, I would like to recognize the most excellent teacher in this college, Patricia Viveros! She always smiles, jokes with her students, and is very helpful in explaining new words!‍‍ Her lessons are easy and fun, and the atmosphere is friendly! She is a great teacher with a lot of experience and a kind heart! Her teaching methods make it easy to understand and learn English! I would recommend her as the best teacher in California!

This college campus has intrigued me for a while. I read an article in Forbes last year that had…read morethe 25 colleges with the most bang for your buck, and Cal State Channel Islands made that list. I think the average student debt upon graduation was a few thousand dollars? I have since been trying to convince my high school age daughter, subtly of course, that this is the college for her! I came here once to see a play that was in the black box theater. That was at night time so I didn't get to check out the campus very much. But it was really pretty at night- there are a lot of strung lights around the small streets. Makes it seem very intimate and inviting. Another time, I came during the day just to drive around and check out the various buildings/layout. I believe this site was an old state hospital? You can still see some of the old buildings versus the new ones. It all comes together really nicely I think. I came for another visit last weekend & walked around the campus with my daughter. It was a Sunday and we were looking for a non-crowded place to get outdoors, as we are trying to practice social distancing while getting some fresh air. I'm happy to say my daughter really enjoyed walking around this campus. It's really open and there's plenty of parking, plenty of visibility for sure. My review doesn't include anything about the academia of the school from personal experience, although I have read great things about it and know a few people that have gone here and enjoyed their experience (they were all gainfully employed, as well). I'm glad to have this lovely campus near us to visit and enjoy walking around. Oh, and my pup loved her walk here as well. Keeping fingered crossed that my daughter gives it a deeper look come college time!

Walk around sometime and you'll notice that you'll get a much larger percent that don't return even a smile. Most of these kids are only Christian by affiliation. I know not much can be done about the way the student body is so this is really just a warning for those who may struggle fitting in and want to make new friends. You will most likely feel like an outcast, if you insist on attending the school, there will be some good teaching and classes but there will be a tons of hypocrisy so you have to gird up and take it and constantly remind yourself why you are there and press on. There will be racism and holier-than-though peeps and you won't make the cut to join their groups, but hopefully you'll find a friend or two that are truly trying to walk in Him as you press on in your studies. For those that are naturally likable, you'll be just fine. There's some truth for you... You decide.

The section of the school that we visited was a little outdated, but much has been done near the center of campus to welcome new and prospective students. Some of the classrooms are in the same funky 1970s buildings, but the art/design classroom has updated computers and huge monitors. The library building has cool architecture and a vast seating area with computers. The online registration process is challenging (you need a Master's degree to figure it out), but after an hour and a call to the helpline which confirmed that the error glitch would require me to re-input all my data again, I was able to register. The open hours for the store and registration are tricky too, so check online before venturing over. The teachers are as cool as I remembered them, so it has been rather fun revisiting some of my college memories. I even find parking spots on Loma Vista like I used to, and they will still ticket you in the permit parking lots too.

It would be unfair for me to rate the…read moreentire school 1 star when this is just about the salon from the client perspective, so I'll just fill it in as 3. I would certainly rate the salon 1 star if I could. I'm autistic. I went in to their salon services get a short, basic haircut. The entire time I was bullied by my barber during the haircut. There were many things he did to me and said to intentionally try to make a joke out of me. Other students eventually started gathering around and ridiculing me and snickering. There was absolutely no supervision. I know I'm an easy target because I'm autistic, but that does not excuse this whatsoever. It is not okay to make fun of disabled people and it's not okay that this behavior wasn't prevented by the teachers. The haircut itself was awful and took a while to grow out long enough to touch up. Very choppily cut and poorly done. But I don't mind because it's a school and they need experience. My mom was coming over from the front to give him a tip, not knowing what had happened, but even she saw that people were just surrounding me and laughing at me, so she turned right back around. My mom had called the place after. The instructor was kind and offered a free, supervised touch up. This is good to note. I didn't accept it because I already go through enough of these experiences in my life because some people like to use an autistic person (or just weaker targets in general such as the elderly, the homeless, etc.) as an excuse to be cruel, I don't need to risk going back to a place that treated me like that. But she listened and seemed to care, so that's what matters. I had a meltdown as soon as we got back in the car to go home and it lasted for hours. I shouldn't have to be judged and bullied for being quiet and having difficulty socializing. Those were things outside of my control because I'm disabled. They appeared to be around my same age of 18, so immaturity is certainly inevitable in a classroom, but this was just cruel in my opinion. You have to sit down for several minutes just defenselessly being subjected to ridicule for things outside of your control. There absolutely should've been supervision. I'm not going to place blame on the instructors and supervisors because they weren't the ones who bullied me, but this sort of thing shouldn't even be able to happen. Things may have changed in the year since I've been and I sure hope they have. Supervision may have tightened. Obviously, a single instance does not define the entirety of the salon. If you're autistic or disabled in any other way, you're already taking risks wherever you go. It's your choice to make and things could be good now. I just wanted to document my experience so it doesn't get brushed under the rug. If you read my review and experience, thank you. I wasn't able to advocate for myself in the moment because I was overwhelmed. It was hard to speak. But at least I have the ability to retroactively articulate. Not all autistic people do. And those are the stories that you don't hear about because not all of us can speak for ourselves, so that is why I'm sharing this experience because I am able to in place where others may have not been able to.
