Last year, I received an email from Sarah discussing various tax filing and family details. I…read moreinformed her she had contacted the wrong Diane Perry. She thanked me. This morning, I got another email from her about the same family, and I sent her a screenshot of our prior email. It seems fairly obvious to me that this person is rather careless with client privacy. I have anonymized the names she spelled out to protect their privacy. I tried to notify the governing body of accountancy in Missouri, but have been told I have to print and sign and snail-mail their form. If anyone knows the people in question, I would encourage them to seek legal redress in some manner, or at the very least, move their business to someone less careless. ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Sarah Burkemper sarah@sarahbcpa.com Date: Tue, Sep 24, 2019 at 10:28 AM Subject: tax return for D** H**** To: dianemperry@gmail.com dianemperry@gmail.com Diane, I have been the CPA for D** and F*** for many years.  F***'s son B**** told me you have Power of Attorney for D** and gave me your contact information. This year, B***** brought in the information for me for their joint tax return, and also paid my preparation fee.  The return is finished and reflects a federal refund of $336, which will be issued in joint names and mailed to 151 S***** C**** Rd.  There is no Missouri refund or balance due. To electronically file the forms, I need your signature on behalf of D**.  Would you like to stop by my office and sign, or would you like me to mail the paperwork to you to sign and return to me?  I extended their return, but it is due on October 15th. Thank you! Sarah Burkemper CPA, CFP®250 E Wood St.Troy, MO  63379636-462-2170636-528-2904 faxsarah@sarahbcpa.com  On Mon, Aug 24, 2020 at 6:25 AM Sarah Burkemper sarah@sarahbcpa.com wrote: Diane, I'm not sure if you remember me from last year, but I prepare taxes for F*** H****  I'm sorry to hear that your father passed away last fall.  I know B**** is starting to collect paperwork for his mom's 2019 tax return.  The 2019 tax return should be a joint return with D** since they were married, and he passed away during the calendar year. Have you done anything about his 2019 taxes, such as filed a Married Filing Separately return?  Or do you want to get his 1099s and other information to me in order to prepare a joint return for D** and F***? Let me know - thanks - take care! Sarah Burkemper CPA, CFP®250 E Wood St.Troy, MO  63379636-462-2170636-528-2904 faxsarah@sarahbcpa.com

I will never use this company again. I filed my federal and state taxes with them. Several months…read morelater, I received a bill stating I had not paid for their tax preparation services. I contacted the office with payment confirmation information. Less than a week later, I received another bill, of which I had to again call with confirmation. That is not so horrible - I understand mix ups can happen. However, I received a bill from Missouri saying I did not pay my taxes. After staying on the phone for an hour, it turned out my taxes were filed under the incorrect SS#. I ended up correcting everything with the state myself. Unfortunately, the federal government is a bit more challenging. In January of this year, I received a letter from the Feds stating I never filed my taxes (I owed $3900, so this was very alarming). To make a long story short, my federal taxes were also filed under the wrong SS#. I called Affordable Taxes to tell them about the letter and that I looked at my records and saw an incorrect SS#. I spoke directly with Jane and she claimed that her office caught the mistake before it went. She became very irritated with me when I asked for details - even if I was upset (I really wasn't, but I did ask a lot of questions), I have every right to make sure I have everything I need. She was terribly rude, and after more research on my part, it turns out she did in fact file my returns incorrectly. Finally, I went into the office to get the corrected documents. When comparing my document (originally given a year prior), I saw certain papers not included. When I asked for them, she became upset stating the extras were not required. I asked for them anyway, and she became even more upset by slamming papers and yelling about my bad attitude - both now and when I called in. Clearly, I wasn't happy, but I was in business mode and simply wanted information. She actually kicked me out of her office and told me I could not review the documents to make sure they were correct. I am shocked and completely dismayed by her mistakes and lack of professionalism. I have never in my life been treated with such utter disrespect. I work in the customer service industry and have a deep understanding of how to speak to people, as well as how customers should be treated. Again, had I been treated with any modicum or respect, I likely would have given them another chance. Please take this review to heart and avoid Affordable Taxes and Accounting at all cost (and, it will cost you!).
