I had to find a new place for a passport photo since my usual spot closed during the pandemic. I chose This Pix based on reviews and its proximity to work, but the experience was disappointing. The staff member was watching a video when I walked in and seemed visibly annoyed to pause it. He came across as irritated any time I asked a question. Given the positive reviews, I doubt he's the only one working there--maybe they have other actual photographers. At my previous place, they took several photos in one go and let me choose the best. Here, I told him I only needed a digital copy--he took one bad photo, showed it to me, and after I said it wouldn't work, he took another. I didn't want to keep going back and forth when it was clear he wasn't going to get a good one, so I settled for the second shot. His cold, dismissive attitude made the whole process uncomfortable. I get anxious taking photos and needed someone to put me at ease--he did the exact opposite. In ended up taking a photo at home for passport and submitted that. If it doesn't work for whatever reason, I'll go somewhere else. Holding a professional camera doesn't make you a professional photographer. Honestly, even CVS might've been a better choice. read more

For me, the point of going to a place like this, as opposed to a CVS or USPS, is service. The shop has several 4 star reviews on display (door and walls), and the space looks great. But my experience was service with a frown. The guy that was working with me didn't answer my question, I looked at his partner to see if he might answer... and he did reluctantly. I didn't get to see the picture before they printed them. Even CVS takes a couple for you to compare and choose. I just waited for the pics awkwardly to be done and dashed. Wont go back. read more

The price for passport photos is the same as the big box stores, where your picture is taken by a cashier, with a smart phone or a cheap point and shoot camera, right by the snack aisles, under harsh fluorescent light. I came here to get my passport photo done when NYC was in phase three of reopening. The business is located in a large mixed use building, with other consumer businesses. Most other businesses were closed when I came in, and there were barely any people inside. I came at 11am on a Monday. There were no other customers, so I walked right in and had my photo taken straight away. Service was quick, friendly and efficient. I walked out within 10 minutes. I guess it's his 'pandemic' price with his 'pandemic' work ethic. Will NOT recommend. I was glad to find an actual photography professional who takes passport pictures. Most passport photos are done at a convenience type store and they don't give me confidence that they actually know what they are doing. I was looking for someone to take passport photos for European passports and when I started calling around different places everyone made me feel like an alien. This place was different. For one he understood and knew the photo dimensions are different for Europe passports yay! His little studio on the 2nd floor was professional and clean. He is a one man show but he was able to serve me, another client and answer a few phone calls. I had my kids with me and he was very patient with them. He was quick in getting a good shot. Just terrible customer service! The owner has no communication skills. He sits here tell you price and then hold cameras. He gets impatient when you request to revise or to retake photos. He acts like that he's working for you and not being paid. He has a face of people owning his apologies and money! It's a true toxic place to take photos. The guy seemed uptight and quick to become aggravated at the slightest questions or when I asked to be given the necessary time to adjust from the cold weather outside. The poor customer service experience began with my initial call regarding which entrance to use, as they have two options, and continued with pricing discrepancies compared to what was posted on their website. Despite these issues, I chose not to make a fuss and simply moved on. I do agree with some reviewers here who mentioned unfriendliness. When I walked in, he was on the phone and although he saw me, didn't acknowledge me. Took a while for him to get off the phone. Finally when it's time for my passport picture, he said that my hair was too big. I tried to push my curly hair toward my neck and back but he still thought it wasn't good enough. He helped me to push my hair back and eventually said it looked ok for the photo. I have never had any issue with my hair like this whenever I took an official photo. The final product, I didn't like at all. I didn't look like myself and I didn't like how messy my hair looked. I ended up not using the photo for my passport. A big waste of time and money, not to mention being insulted. I initially wanted to believe it was his lack of English language skills but that wasn't it. Some people seem to have had good experience here, but I will never go back there. read more

Fast and efficient. $15 for 2 passport photos. But not friendly. Came here with my infant to take his first passport photos. The guy essentially yelled at my baby to get him to look at the camera even though I brought a toy for the guy to hold. I'm surprised my baby didn't cry. I would NOT recommend that Black people (African Americans) use Pix Photography. On 2/9/2021, I visited Pix Photography for 2 Passport photos. When I walked in, the Asian photographer did not acknowledge me nor greet me. I told him that I wanted 2 passport photos. I speak English well. However, repeatedly, he kept asking me, what was it that I wanted. I repeated "U.S. passport photos". This Asian photographer demonstrated ANNOYANCE. At one point, he RUDELY slumped his body at me. In an abrupt and discourteous manner, he spoke to me. After I took my photos, he gave me the pictures in an envelope. He did not really allow me to look at them, nor after I paid, did he say "thank you." When I said that it would be nice to say "thank you," he ignored me, did not say "thank you" nor did he bother to look up from his desk. He refused to acknowledge me. If he was treating Caucasian customers this way, I don't think he would have 4 stars. He is SELECTIVE to whom he is unprofessional. If you are a Black person, STAY AWAY from Pix Photography. read more

The passport renewal photos I took here were rejected because of printing quality and ThisPix has refused to give me a refund.

I can't even start telling you how happy I am that they are still in business. I have been taking my passport pictures with them for over 20 years and do not want to go to any other place. Despite the challenges of the pandemic and reduced business, they still charge you the same old price and with the same old great quality and service. I liked this place! I went for a passport photo because I was done with doing it at the post office.  Places like CVS would do this service too but I wasn't in the mood for that public display either.  So This Pix Photography is a real find and real photography studio offering similar pricing.  It was well lit and spacious with tall windows looking over 3rd Ave. from the second floor.  My 10 or 15 minute session was very professional and personalized!  It was just the photographer and me.  He took about 8 photos because I hated all of them.  Finally I liked the 8th one or so!  It was perfect because I felt rude asking him to take any more.  He was patient prompting me to always keep my hair out of my face, show no teeth and tilt my head a certain way.  He cut (two of) them perfect to passport size and I was on my way.  Please note, they are not really fluent in English there but somehow we communicated well.  I read another review where the photo was returned because the print quality was bad?  I will let you know if that happens to me.  Also another reviewer said they are rude to Black people?  They had that no nonsense attitude and edgy demeanor with me too and I am White. There was just that feeling I had to stay on their good side in order for this work and it did. They didn't say thank you to me either and I didn't even care. I understand though how a situation could get out of hand with them with the wrong person. The understand the complicated Dutch passport photo requirements and their price is right: 15$ for 2. The oy thing to duck a star for is that they are not making you feel welcome. Stoic ally staring into the distance 2 guys sat there and worked in silence. No real answers to questions, just grunts and nods. But they deliver, and at a good price. read more

Went in for a passport photo. Nice shop and staff, with an initially pleasant experience of good service and fast turnaround. However, their website states "... with our experience we guarantee no rejection" and a rejected photo "...is a waste of money and your precious time." While the photo appeared to be fine, my consulate rejected it because it wasn't sharp enough ("where did you get *this* done??? haha"). I was sent to another photographer in the area and luckily I was able to get it done/approved in time before my appointment window closed. I called ThisPix afterward to tell them I had been rejected, had to get photos from another store, what their website states and asked what their "guarantee" means. They offered to retake (no point for me since it was already done), but no refund. It's possible I'm the rare case they messed up. But if you don't want to take a chance with rejection and wasting money/time, go somewhere else. read more

Great service. Quality work. This place knows what it is doing. I needed passport photos for renewal of a foreign passport (Australian) which has a different size requirement. All done in minutes for a good price. The representative at the consulate commented on the quality of the work and explained that incorrect sizes and poor quality photographs were the main cause of delays in passport applications.
