In the absence of Tsingdao or other Asian brew, I opted for Modelo Especial, a very good Mexican lager with strong, yet balanced flavor. The 24 count case cost $33 and change including tax. No bad, but not as reasonable as at my favorite alcohol warehouse in Jersey. Still, considering time and transportation, it was well worth it. Happy New Year, Everybody!

Walked in and was immediately greeted by Linda and told if I needed help finding anything she was available. Man does she know her store. Called ahead and they told us it would be in the next morning. I'm thinking... okay, we'll see. Pulled up at 9 AM and they actually had it. They didn't get much in like the person stated. Snagged a 30 pack for $29.99, which was a win. Now here's the part I was NOT prepared for!! As soon as we walked in, a very large cat came strolling from the back like it owned the place I'm terrified of cats AND allergic, so I immediately turned right back around. Had a whole moment at the door trying to gather myself lol. The cat was definitely friendly... but yeah, that threw me all the way off. Eventually I made my way in, got it together, and completed my purchase. Outside of my unexpected cat encounter, the store itself is solid good size, nice beer selection, snacks, lottery, ATM, all that. The guy at the counter was super friendly and engaging too. I can get some Iron City when I'm having some fantasies about the sandwiches I get a Primate Bros in Pittsburgh. Or if I'm feeling International they've got that covered too. They always have Mad Elf on tap at Christmas time so I load up a few growlers...it's become a tradition. But their tap list is ever changing. Plus whether bottled, canned or on tap, their prices are the best around. Now, the staff...there are a lot of them. They are always stocking shelves, they are always offering help and they are always friendly. What a concept...great customer service! I wish more businesses would adopt the idea. While the 19th Century look of the old place was cool, having an air conditioned space large enough to hold and display a vast variety of American and international suds, is an improvement. They even have room for the mid-sized shopping carts that can hold a couple of cases while you shop and make way to the cashier. We were in a Mexican fiesta mood, so picked up a 12 bottle case of Corona, and another of Dos Equis (XX) Sampler. Bought a supply of Lime at Tanner Bros. True, the price of cerveza goes up all the time, especially for the imports, but there is something to be said for comfort and convenience in brew buying. Cold Spring opens at 9 during the week, giving it a leg up on other local distributors who open later in the morning. Never too early for fiesta!

I was told the "shadows of the picture" of my ID looked like they were not a PA ID, I'm not really sure what that one means. I understand needing to protect your liquor license, but if you were not going to sell to me from the beginning, let me know before I waste 15 minutes of my time. If you are under 30, I recommend bringing a passport or other form of identification, or just going somewhere else.
