The Black House on Beech is a small stunner called The Starling. Perhaps The Startling might be more apropos because it is a 2-story 3BR, 2BA house on a small footprint painted a pure matte black. Inside is modern and simple, decorated in black and white. They've considered every comfort -- there's a sauna, a hot tub, fire pit and hammock-- outside. Connect to the house Wi-Fi, watch a movie, play some tunes on the turntable, challenge your companions to a few board games--inside. Or walk a few minutes to Staymaker Restaurant at Journeyman Distillery, stock up on staples at Froehlich's Kitchen & Pantry, or enjoy a casual lunch/brunch at Oaks Eatery. This is a fine getaway for a small group or family. We only had a small mixup with the Wi-Fi but they were very responsive and this was cleared up right away. All the amenities at a small and quiet oasis. We didn't use the sauna but will be ready to try it on a return visit.

From start to finish, they communicated everything we needed, making the trip easy and enjoyable. When we asked questions about the area and concierge services for our celebration, they were attentive and helpful. She ghosted me several times--not answering when I called to ask her to check on the house. I even had a friend call to ask her to contact me and she said "I never heard of her!" She billed me more than she advertised. When I asked her to check on the house she told me all was well. But a few weeks after she said that when I asked to have the house cleaned...she told me my house was over run with rodents and her staff ran out screaming. How could the house be over run with rodents when weeks before it was fine? The answer--she wasn't really checking on my house. Then when I came out to investigate it turns out that her team or Lisa herself had left the basement door WIDE open during the polar vortex weather. Of course mice got in!!! She also had the temerity to charge me $90 for that aborted service. When I sent a handyman over--he found the back door WIDE open! And several windows cracked open as well. Avoid her like the plague!!! She is a charleton. She was very prompt only in sending bills--not doing the services that she promised to deliver. Stay away.

Our pond project was left unfinished after weeks of delays, missed appointments, and poor communication. We paid a deposit, but after failing to complete the work, Aaron refused to return it. We were repeatedly told that the pond needed weeks before work could continue. After consulting other pond professionals, we were informed that this type of pond cleaning is typically a 1-2 day project and did not require the lengthy delays we were told were necessary. Instead of improving the pond, its condition worsened significantly, with excessive algae growth and green water. Bucket of stagnant, foul-smelling water were left on our property for nearly a month. Aaron later trespassed onto our property to retrieve equipment without scheduling a pickup date or time in advance. When he was unable to locate some of his items, he blamed us for missing equipment without providing a list of what was allegedly missing. Based on our experience, I would strongly encourage homeowners to obtain multiple opinions, verify timelines, and get all agreements and expectations in writing before hiring.
