I noticed this tiny little shop and stopped in while in town. It's chock full of lots of interesting and unique items, all with a science-y theme. It's definitely a bit niche, but if you know someone who loves science, this is a great place to get gifts. Every inch of the store had something interesting to look at, from neuron and brain earrings, to microbiology themed washi tape, circuit board coasters, recreations of renaissance sundials, all sorts of space-themed items, puzzles, games, anatomical chocolate hearts, insect fossils... you get the idea. Really interesting and cool place. I didn't see anything that I would need personally, but it was definitely fun to check out. In the words of Bill Nye... Science rules!

I did make a purchase though and the way they packaged up my purchase was so cute and a nice touch!

For example, the very basic white ceramic butter dish I looked at was $100, scarves and small bags were $150, and most items started around $60. I get it, this is a store about wants, not needs, but having a few small items that cost less might be a good idea. I'll still visit every time I'm in Lansing!

However, that is a corporate decision and has nothing to do with this particular store. It seems like whenever they made the transition from having cashiers to automated self check out, the customer service here has gone downhill. I tried stopping in tonight on a quick run as I ran out of a particular tube of paint, and I nearly walked right into a door because they had both of the inner doors of the vestibule locked. I could walk in from the street, but the nearly face planted in a door that was supposed to open automatically. An employee came over and unlocked one of the doors, earbuds in her ears, apologizing while explaining she was on a phone call or something. She was immediately all too eager to let me know the store closes in than 20 minutes. Yeah, I could tell. It's a huge pet peeve of mine when stores try to shut down shop during their opening hours. Your store hours you close at 9:00p, not 8:37. There's a Michaels on the other side of town I've only been to a couple of times but even with the automated self check out there, people there I think are much friendlier it might be worth the drive next time.

I was distraught (in tears). I went back in to buy another 2, and when i told the employee what happened, he asked me if the string was tied loosely, i said i wasn't sure, and he said "let's just say it was". He gave me another 2, free of charge on account of an employee error. I did not catch the man's name but he's a wonderful employee and i cannot stress how much i appreciated this small kindness, it really made my day.

There was a sign that said if know on is there to ring the bell. I rang the bell and waited patiently. It took a few minutes, which was okay. The problem is that when the cashier came to the front he had an attitude, and mumbled something about the bell. I asked him what he said and he rudely tapped on the sign on the protective glass and said I can't hear you if you don't ring the bell. I told him that I did ring the bell and another customer who was in line behind me told him that I rung the bell. The cashier then said " I can't hear the bell if I'm in the back". "I said okay, who's problem is that, I didn't tell you to go in back where you couldn't hear the bell and why do you have such a terrible attitude?" I have been in the store other times in which staff is complaining about other staff while I'm checking. I'm very disappointed with how consistently bad Dollar General's staff has been during my trips. CW

They were efficient, nice, and polite and we were overjoyed to see another individual working there using a SD (Service Dog). As a SD user, to see a place of employment supporting their employee and for that pup to be in a safe working environment makes me overjoyed. SD users are often discriminated against in employment opportunities and not only is this an instance of helping to normalize SD for the public, but keeping the handler in the workforce.
