What a fun store with nice things,things made in Michigan and free coffee!! The store is great for locals and tourists alike. It's not cheesy it's so cute! I got some vintage postcards and a cool vintage glass and some fun sundries. My buddy got a gift for his wife for her birthday. She will love it! I did I just have to wait till next time to get them!! Staff was friendly and could be ur new friends cause they were so chatty and genuine.The store is on the river and u can walk from there to some lovely places near the Grand River. When I heard about the Old Town General Store, I immediately wanted to love it -- and on visiting, in some ways I did. It has the small town vibe that's lost in the vastness of ordinary grocery stores. We were welcomed by the owner as we entered, and there was a concert on the patio that evening after business hours (but for a $15 cover we did not attend). Many products were local, with the majority being form somewhere in the state of Michigan -- and I really love that too. If you're looking for a gift for a localvore, foodie, or Michigan-enthusiast, this is the place to go. Certainly, I'll be doing some Christmas shopping here. However, this is hardly the place to go for affordable products, and the produce selection was sparse (although I understand that it's dictated by supply, not by my demand). Many of the gourmet products could be found elsewhere for a bit cheaper. Although it was wonderful to have so many Michigan-y things in one place, something was lacking for me that I can't quite put my finger on. Regardless, I'll be back in the fall to reassess my complicated feelings. read more

I loved this little store. I was visiting from Arizona and didn't have time to visit all the towns I wanted. It was great having a store concentrated on local products. We were immediately welcomed upon entry into the store. We went during a tasting and were able to sample many wines and snacks to decide on purchasing. There was also several people to answer many of our product questions. I wish I could have fit more in my suitcases. Yes some products you could probably get cheaper from the source but this is certainly worth the convenience of having it all in one place. The products are also high quality. They also carry a wide variety of Michigan themed clothing, cups, stickers, I loved the greeting cards that were designed by a local artist. If you need something Michigan, this is definitely the place to go. read more

I adore this place! They have a wholesome selection of snacks, frozen meats, seasonal produce, wine and beer, and even some beauty and house cleaning products. I wish they could extend their open hours because I would love to be able to swing by later in the evening for a bottle of wine, and perhaps one day they will carry liquor too! They often have small concerts in their courtyard in the summer--although I haven't been able to attend, it's a great addition to town. read more

This Old Town General Store is a quaint little store that carries lots of goodies from craft brewed beers, wines, local artists crafts, coffee, tea, sweets and pastries. They have a cool backyard to hang out in with your friends. Although I have not been there for weekend evenings, I understand that there are musicians that have their jam sessions there too. The owner is not helpful, she is clearly not into helping customers and has any one of her other employees go to the front to help people, even if she is in the front of the store. I even watched her refuse to greet one young lady which seemed beyond rude for a small, local business. Aside from the lack of customer service from the owner, the products being sold are greatly overpriced and not nearly as unique as they claim to be. Half the things on the shelves are sold in other places around Lansing and at a much lower cost. Save your time and your hard earned money and go to one of Lansing and Old Town's better owned and operated businesses where the owners are grateful for their customers and don't cower in the back of the store. read more
