Shoppers can find a diverse selection of goods, including buttons, costume jewelry, household items, one off treasures, hats, as well as vintage clothing. The inventory is constantly changing, offering a new experience with every visit. I didn't know how much I would enjoy this store until I got sucked into the different things for about a half an hour. If I wasn't on a time crunch I would have stayed longer. I enjoyed the friendly greeting when I walked in the door. There were some great sales going on that she wanted to make sure I knew about. From nearly the moment my children and I entered, an employee followed us from room to room with all the subtlety of a prison guard conducting rounds. Not occasionally checking in. Not discreetly keeping an eye on things. Following us. Room. To. Room. Complete with the unblinking, judgmental stare that made browsing feel less like shopping and more like supervised visitation. I'm not naive. I understand perfectly well why antique stores keep an eye on customers, particularly families with children. Some children are careless. Some parents apparently believe "don't touch" is an infringement on personal liberty. I get it. I've been doing this for decades, and I've specifically taught my children how to behave in antique and thrift stores: be careful, be respectful, and understand that the things around you belong to other people. Which is also why I'd appreciate being allowed to actually parent my own children before a store employee decides to assume the role. At one point, my child--who is under 10--picked up an item to inspect it because he was considering buying it. The employee, who of course was already hovering nearby, gruffly told him that he needed to put it back unless he wanted to buy it. Interesting retail strategy. Perhaps I've misunderstood antiquing all these years, but generally one examines an item BEFORE deciding whether to purchase it. If the store's policy is that customers may look but not touch, pick up, inspect, or otherwise evaluate merchandise, that is certainly their prerogative. Put up a sign saying so. But don't be surprised when customers respond by doing exactly what you apparently want them to do: look--and then leave without buying anything. What bothered me most wasn't even being watched. I'm sure plenty of antique stores quietly keep an eye on customers, and I don't blame them. The difference is that every other antique store I've visited has managed to accomplish this without making customers feel like inmates being escorted through the recreational yard. There is a considerable difference between discreetly monitoring your merchandise and overtly following a family from room to room while communicating suspicion through your expression, posture, and gruff tone. Maybe give people the benefit of the doubt first. If my children start mishandling merchandise, by all means say something. I would probably be saying it before you had the chance. But treating children as a problem before they've actually done anything wrong--and treating their parent as though he cannot possibly supervise them without assistance--is neither welcoming nor particularly conducive to making a sale. And that's the unfortunate part. I've purchased several items here before and would have happily continued doing so. There are individual vendors in this store whose booths I genuinely enjoy browsing, and they are ultimately the ones who lose future sales because I have no desire to shop while being shadowed by a self-appointed warden. Antique stores depend on people being willing to browse, inspect, discover, and occasionally fall in love with something they didn't know they wanted when they walked through the door. That experience becomes considerably less enjoyable when someone is staring over your shoulder waiting for an infraction. So, to the vendors whose booths I've enjoyed and purchased from before: I'm sorry. You have some wonderful things. To the management: if you're going to put someone in a public-facing position, perhaps consider whether they make paying customers feel welcome--or like they should be counting down the days until parole.

This time it was fun to really see what they had to furnish my place with! they have a beautiful selection! i got this linen credenza, it was marked more than half off! due to it being slightly too low for what most people like. The owner was so so nice! she even helped me put it in my car and helped me figure that all out. it was a sturdy piece. so it was definitely not easy! but she totally kicked ass. and got that thing all the way to my car!! love her! and her business. she will definitely go above and beyond. i always find new things here, and the quality is great, some things are marked high but do your research and the price usually makes sense!

Viviane and I pulled a bunch of playful pieces and it honestly felt like we were playing dress-up before a date in a rom-com. The racks were full of colorful, sparkly things and it was impossible not to get into the spirit of it. I decided to lean all the way in and pick something a little funky to show up in. Viviane even found the perfect silly hat to tie the whole look together. She allowed me to get ready in the dressing room since I don't live in Truckee. She even turned on a little space heater for me to stay warm. She gave me a great deal and even gifted the gloves as well as a rose quartz crystal. Unique Boutique is different from any other boutique I've ever stopped at before. Also two Christmas sweaters for my advent calendar. The crafting area had a lot to sort through, but I ended up taking just some knitting needles. There were lots of cross stitch patterns and supplies. In the books, I found 4 books on needlepoint for 50 cents each. This is definitely a thrift store worthy of frequent checking.

I was also here on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 to shop around. It is on Beverly Drive, right across the parking lot from the Carson City Senior Center, and in the same complex as Carson City Health & Human Services on East Long Street. There were many dignitaries here, such as Carson City Ward 2 Supervisor Brad Bonkowski, who spoke briefly, and Mayor Pro Tem and Supervisor Lori Bagwell. There was also someone from the Carson City Chamber of Commerce. They had a short ribbon cutting ceremony with gigantic scissors in front of their new sign. Then the first 100 people got a free hot dog, two cookies (oatmeal, chocolate chip, or vanilla chip), and a (warm) water. Donations to Meals on Wheels were optional. The woman volunteer at the end seemed kind of ornery to me, but oh well. The volunteer when I drove up was really nice, as was the employee there when I went in March. They also had a 50% off sale today in the thrift store on everything except books. As part of the new name, they also got new larger signs for the donation station and entrance. And they now reserve a parking spot for donations in front of the donation station. After I ate my hot dog, I went inside. It was very busy and they had two people manning the cash registers. They have different sections for different things, such as furniture, men's clothing, women's clothing, children's clothing, trinkets, boutique items, and electronics. My one complaint about this store it it is expensive for used items. $200 for a very small kitchen table for two, $100 for a sofa, $15 for a beat-up office chair, $10 for an old chartreuse file cabinet that looks like it is from the 70's, etc. Clothing is more reasonable, but still a little expensive. I do get that is for a good cause and they have overhead, but I still think it is a little expensive. I mean people are giving away sofas for free on craigslist. The store is always looking for volunteers, so please consider that. They also take Apple Pay, which is a little surprising for a thrift store. Parking is very easy, as there are plenty of space in front. I would give this store three stars due to the prices, but I will leave four since it is for a good cause.
