AHHH, that Jay Simon asked him about the car- he tells me this "Unfortunately we do not have prior history on the car. It is in pretty decent shape, with prior rust having been repaired. The paint is of high driver quality. As with just about any VW I have seen, this one has a minor oil leak. The motor runs really well, shifts as it should. Overall a pretty nice rig. " He failed to report the turn signals don't work, the license plate light doesn't - well the wiring is gone, the tach, oil pressure, fuel gauges are missing, as is the heater and all the ducting. The spare tire is the wrong size tubeless tire with an inner tube that has a hole the size of Texas. he was right the paint was nice, far from high quality but nice. ***BUYER BEWARE*** Unfortunately, I didn't see the reviews, just the website ad of the car. I had the distinct displeasure of buying a 68 Firebird for over $42,000. That was in January. It it now May, and I've put 2 miles in the car. Why so few? Well let me elaborate: First, these assholes delivered the car with 1 mile of gas. Not one gallon, 1 mile. So for $42k they can't even fill the tank. I saw that the gauge was at "E" but thought maybe it was broken, but still, went straight to the gas station which is 1.4 miles away. Didn't make it. 2nd, as I'm sitting on the side of the road with an empty tank, I notice a shit ton of fluid has spewed its guts all over the asphalt. Upon inspection, it had a busted radiator hose. Awesome. 3rd, after the subsection of the hose, I notice I now have a flat tire! They were supposed to be brand new. I thought how unlucky I was to pick up a nail in the single mile I drive the thing. Then I saw the tire, which the side was shredded. Inside the well was this jagged sheet metal that was hanging down. So when I backed out of my driveway and turned the wheel, said sheet metal shredded the rear tire. Cool 4th, after getting it towed, the mechanic couldn't get it started because the carburetor was shot and needed a complete rebuild. 5th frame bushings all needed to be replaced, leaf springs, tachometer, rear main seal was gone, door locks popped out when use of the key, oil pressure switch was broken, all electrical basically needs to get redone, radiator overflow was a plastic bottle with no cap and a lose hose going into the top of it. 6th and this one is good, these douche bags put the wrong oil filter on it, and stripped the oil filter receiver! The interior is garbage. Wires hanging everywhere, they glued the passenger interior door handle together, so the first time I touched it, it disintegrated I had asked Jay repeatedly about the mechanics of the car, and he swore on a stack that this one of the best Firebirds he's seen. I'm sure Stevie Wonder "saw" better cars mechanically. So here it is 4 months later, still haven't driven the car, with the exception of the 1 mile, and I'm looking at a $10,000 repair bill. This dealership is dogshit. Plain and simple. Any car they sell there will have issues to say the least. If you don't like money and liked getting kicked in the balls, then by all means by from this dealer who try's their best to reenact the movie "Used Cars" with every sale. I bought a classic Corvette from Thiel through their eBay store and was shocked to discover the blatant lies in their description. The car was NO WHERE near the condition and details as advertised. When called on it they originally apologized and agreed to make it right. My "car guy" took all the photos and got third party evaluations to prove our position and John Jr. at Thiel has been ignoring us ever since. After weeks of calling he finally answered the phone and agreed, again, to make it right. Hearing nothing (again, for a month) and receiving no reply to our messages John Jr claimed he "thought his brother took care of it". Yes, that's clearly why we've been calling every single day, because it was taken care off. BE VERY WARY OF THIEF... I mean Thiel. They practice shady sales tactics, lie on their descriptions and are evasive as hell. Their "valuations" are drastically off the mark and are probably completely fabricated. Don't buy from Thiel. It is nice to go into a dealership where you don't feel like people are looking to make a quick sale- but actually care about your needs and assess what is going to be best for you and your situation. That is the type of experience I have had at Theil Motors. I appriciate the great customer service, having my sales rep get to know me and what my needs are, and being honest every step of the way. Being a young woman going into a car dealership can be a bit intimidating, but that wasnt the case and I will surely be coming back for all of my automotive needs. I made the terrible mistake of purchasing a classic pick up truck from Thiel Motors in De Witt, IA. They had the vehicle on Ebay and their website described as "Straight from Arizona"! Which means rust free in the classic car world. Before the purchase John Jr. Thiel told me his dad was on vacation in Arizona and just got this great rust free Arizona truck. The description and John said there was one little rust repair done in the floor pan. John Jr. said we are a family run business and their reputation speaks for itself. Unfortunately I trusted him. Turns out it was from the RUST belt in Iowa. The vehicle has major rust on the underside of the body, frame, and suspension parts. I have been a major car guy my entire life. I have owned over 40 cars and never been taken advantage of in this way. I owned a high end car repair shop in California for many years and never saw any of my clients treated in this way. Avoid Thiel Motors at all costs. I have been trying to find a fair resolution with John Jr only to have my emails ignored and my phone calls not returned. All vehicles have a value and I am willing to pay a fair price for the vehicle or have my money returned. His offers are an insult! read more

I purchased a 67 Chevelle from John Theil Jr., he gave this car just 2 points from being a perfect show car. After receiving car it turned out to be a rusted out pile of crap. Had bent and cracked frame. Had been in at least four accidents, bad engine, bad electrical, at least ten pounds of bondo, what a death trap. Now after a year of him promising to make it right have received nothing, not one returned phone call. What a bunch of crooks... I hope to have my day in court to make these crooks pay. read more

Thiel Motor Bad Sales Practices and Iowa General Attorney Honestly, You should stay away from purchasing from Thiel Motor of Dewitt Iowa. I purchased one of their classic trucks after reading their ad and a hour long conversation with one of the owners of Thiel. Lets just say, when the truck arrived, my heart sunk as it was not at all as advertised or described by the owner. Here is a list of the issues that the truck had: 1) The AC system advertised as ICE COLD, did not work at all. 2) Paint was described by owner as very very nice with only minor pits and nicks from being a driver vehicle, had a 3 inch gouge in rear quarter and a 1 inch dent in the front quarter. 3) Massive oil leak coming from every possible place on the engine. 4) Transmission leaking excessively from multiple places on the transmission. 5) Upon giving gas, the motor was making an hideous grinding/clanking noise. 6) The motor when warmed up was smoking profusely out of both tail pipes. Upon discussion with Thiel they apologized and stated that they would make it right. When I informed them that there were way too many issues and there was no way I wanted to deal with time and effort to put the car into the state it was advertised, they gave me three options, 1) They would give me 1500 to keep the truck, 2) I could return the truck and pay a 20% restocking fee, or 3) I could return the truck and buy another vehicle from them if I pay return shipping. Now, how is that for a company? Can you believe it. The case is now in the Iowa General Attorneys office right now. They informed me that there are several other complaints against Thiel and they are mounting a poor practices case to settle them all. Save your money and time and aggravation and stay away. If you had a similar issue, contact the Iowa General Attorneys Office and file a complaint. They probably can help you. read more

Stay away from Thiel. Was looking at a 2012 Ford F150 and was thinking about purchasing it. There was problem with the stereo speakers, 3 out of 4 did not work and the working speaker sounded horrible. The vehicle had an aftermarket stereo equalizer in it and Jim Thiel thought the equalizer was why the speakers were not working. I put a $200 deposit on the truck and waited for the repairs to be done. Turned out that all the speakers had to be replaced and the equalizer was not the problem, this according a phone conversation with Jim. Knowing that all the door panels would have to be taken off I become fearfull that if not done right this would cause rattles in a $24000 vehicle. While I was waiting I found another truck at a local dealeship and decided to purchase that vehicle. When I called Thiel to tell them I was not going to purchase their vehicle the salesman hung up on me. Thiel kept my $200 and refuses to return any of my calls or messages I have left them. I signed no purchase agreement and was never told the deposit was non refundable. This matter is in the hands of the Iowa Attorney General and Jim Thiel response to the attorney general was I asked for the equalizer to be taken out and when they took the equalizer out it caused the stereo speakers not to work costing the dealeship over $400 to repair so they are keeping the $200 to offset their costs. I strongly encourage anyone who has been taken by this deceptive dealership to contact Iowa Attorney General. Be prepared however for the lies from Jim that will follow from your complaint. The business should be called Steal Auto and they should change their pledge to customers on their Web site to reflect their true business practice. read more

I stopped by Theil after seeing a truck i liked on Cars.com. After a test drive and agreed upon price we scheduled to take delivery, but never received the truck. After leaving several voice mails with Jim Theil and making attempts to speak to another owner I decided to purchase a truck from another dealer. I have never met a car salesman who would not return a phone call. Especially to a customer that has a check ready. Worst experience ever!!! As off today i feel like i just got RIPPED OFF. My experience with Thiel Motor sales compares to a highway robbery.They sold me 1 ton truck in "mint condition" for $19,000. After a day of driving i found out:Leaking brake line,leaking fuel line around the diesel tank, pinhole and little leak on transfercase, horrible rust all over the underbody and the best of all the truck is in immediate need for fuel injector replacement (cost over $4,500) and on top of that i put empty trailer on and the engine starts heating up on the slightest incline.( i actually started overheating on my very first trip with the trailer) They sold it to me "ready for hauling" even though the ball hitch was missing and the lever stuck they didn't even let me take my old one from my trade in. So i called them the very next day that i want my money back, first they take their time to even answer me and when i demanded the return they told me they give me$1,000 off and that i should be grateful for that. Never got to speak to the owner even though i'm calling HIM everyday now leaving messages on bosses line. I'm going to hire a lawyer because they are ruining my business I'm stuck with non-operational truck, my customers are calling and i can not serve them because i have no truck.And all this after i paid theTHIEF ( sorry i mean) thiel brothers almost twenty grand...
