Importantly, he was also accommodating and flexible when I had messed up a time for my appointment and came 6 hours later. He could have advised me to reschedule and pay for my missed appointment, but he kindly agreed to work me in, meaning he left his work day much later than expected. Shout out to the office manager/scheduler staff as well, who was always friendly and efficient. Strongly recommend this group, particularly given their very convenient location downtown just above the Farragut North metro station

Similar to another poster, I spent around 15 minutes with Chris per session and even less when he was late (often 10-15 min after my appt time) getting me from the waiting room. He'd juggle 3 patients at once (nobody else at the clinic did this) and even when he didn't have this many patients I was alone while he was on the other side of the clinic or he just disappeared completely. When I brought up concerns about pain (not muscle pain or soreness), he'd just brush off my concerns and rush through my questions. Older reviews mentioned how friendly the pts are but this was not my experience. Chris was nice at first but then was checked out. Most of the time he was either glued to his computer looking at restaurant menus or chatting with his friends who came to see him. The final straw was hearing him make completely inappropriate comments.

It was a cold Saturday morning in February and I was cutting it close to get to spin class. I…read moreparked and sprinted the two blocks to the studio and the frigid air hit my exposed calves below my 3/4 length workout pants like a brick. Didn't think anything about it until I felt a tug in my right calf within the first two minutes of spin class. I let it heal for several weeks but it never quite felt right. For months, I had a nagging tightness. Not pain, but lingering soreness. Stay with me here. I re-tore my ACL on my left knee a few years ago and opted not to have surgery again. For the most part, It's fine because I "retired" from the sport that caused the injury, but it's occasionally wobbly and my knee randomly pops out of place. So I decided to do what I should have done years ago and go to physical therapy to work on strengthening the muscles around the knee. Hope you're still with me, just trying to set the stage for why Rose Physical Therapy is amazing. I'd met the husband of the owner at a Yelp event and he mentioned that his wife has a physical therapy business. Looked up the business later and saw that it had solid positive reviews. Also saw their business cards at Pacers Running and the employee also had good feedback. I made an appointment at Rose and was assigned to Laura based on my symptoms and her specialties. The DuPont office is bright, clean and modern. It sounds weird to comment about the aesthetics, but it really contributes to the experience and my comfort level. Laura is amazing--she takes the time to listen to where I'm having issues, especially during our initial session. Highly recommend! While I thought only my knee needed work, I mentioned where I continued to have calf tightness and she took a look. She explained where the muscles around an injury can lock up and if not loosened up, stay tight even when the original strain heals. During sessions, she works on those tightened muscles with some kind of sculpting tool, does dry needling to release some of the knotted, triggered areas, and then we do a series of exercises to build up strength and stability. I need to be better about doing the exercises at home to help speed along my recovery, but from the office visits alone, my problem areas are improving and I'm so glad I finally made that first appointment to get started. If you've got a nagging issue that you've been putting off addressing, go to Rose and get yourself right!

I didn't think I'd be walking again and I am now able to do everything I was before. I was amazed; she is a miracle worker! Very attentive, very responsive, patient, kind. I have a terrible memory so Kat would give me detailed emails as to what to do for my weekly and daily exercises and stretches at home. Wonderful PT, wonderful place. Space has a good vibe, clean but not clinical, professional but warm, friendly and responsive staff, easy to get to by bus or metro. Above and beyond the treatment you will find at most physical therapy places (believe me I know from experience). Cannot recommend enough.

Stein, MD of The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics in Washington, DC is probably…read morethe worst orthopedic doctor in the Washington, DC area: he is more of a businessman masquerading as an orthopedist. When I visited Dr. Stein's office, I was (eventually, after a long wait) taken to the X-Ray room. The X-Ray room contained an X-ray apparatus that looks to be years obsolete. Other orthopedic clinics in the Washington, DC area have more sophisticated diagnostic equipment. The X-ray technician took X-rays of my feet and knees and then it was time to meet Dr. Benjamin Stein. I told Dr. Stein of the problems I have been having: 1) an injured big toe on my right foot; 2) persistent soreness in my knees, especially when walking on stairs; and 3) I need new orthotic foot pads. Dr. Stein then addressed each problem in the most cavalier manner: 1) Dr. Stein examined the X-rays of my injured big toe: a very small bone fragment has splintered off and is pressing against the flesh in the top of the toe causing pain. Apparently from the X-ray, it was evident even to a medical neophyte like myself that it needed to be surgically removed. Instead, Dr. Stein simply said it will heal by itself. A few weeks later, it is still evident that the bone fragment has not healed back into place and needs surgical removal. 2) Dr. Stein said the X-rays did not reveal any problem with my knees. I have to admit that to my untrained eye that I could not see any visible damage to my knees from the X-ray, but I asked Dr. Stein why the soreness in my knees persists. Dr. Stein said he didn't know. I asked Dr. Stein if there was no improvement in my knees nine months from now and I remain in pain would he write a letter to my landlord noting that walking on the stairs in my house causes me pain in my knees and recommend that my landlord release me from my lease so I could rent an apartment with no stairs. Dr. Stein looked at me as if I had asked him to kill someone for me and took offense saying that he did not write such letters. I suppose he has never heard of the phrases "reasonable accommodation of a medical condition" or "supporting documentation." 3) I explained to Dr. Stein that I have a genetic disorder that creates a larger than normal dorsal bones in my feet that extend bottom-wise half-an-inch or so, requiring orthopedic foot pads - at least two other orthopedic doctors explained that to me previously. Dr. Stein said he had never heard of any such genetic disorder of the dorsal bone! Where did he go to medical school?! Dr. Stein simply gave me a prescription for new orthotic pads and a few weeks later I received a bill for a total of $245.56 for the X-rays. Apparently, Dr. Stein charges approximately twice for X-rays the amount that Blue Cross/Blue Shield will pay for, so we patients have to pay a large co-payment and deductible to The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics. If your doctor refers you to Dr. Benjamin Stein or any other doctor at the The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics in Washington, DC refuse the referral and find a new doctor who will refer a better orthopedic doctor or orthopedic clinic (I am changing primary care doctors because my current one always refers me to mediocre specialists, which is why I ended up seeing Dr. Stein.). Please find yourself a better orthopedic doctor: you will receive only inadequate care and excessive bills from Dr. Benjamin Stein and The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics in Washington, DC.

So I had had previous experience with this kind of treatment. The time I spent at Star was the best. To begin with, the facility is pleasant, with large windows, and very well laid out so that three or four therapists can work freely with patients with different levels of need. The atmosphere is welcoming and exudes a sense of community, working together to produce comfort and high performance. Sam Dozier, receptionist and Therapist Aide, greets people warmly, tirelessly arranges schedules to suit your convenience, and throughout your time there offers compassionate support. I worked alternately with Kyra Corradin and Aysha Ehsan. To sum up, I found them to be kind, caring, and focused. They are professionals with a special understanding of the power of movement to refresh and restore. Although work in the sessions is directed to particular areas of the body, the target is the whole person, not just a sore neck or knee. Kyra and Aysha began each session by asking how I was feeling that day with an interest not only in physical issues, but also in my spirits and general outlook. Their goal was to make me feel better through movement specifically directed to areas needing attention. If I indicated pain in a particular area, they would begin by massaging that spot, literally demonstrating the common expression, "I can feel your pain." I always did feel better after my sessions. However, both therapists strongly emphasized the importance of taking personal responsibility for learning and doing prescribed exercises at home. I thought they were great teachers, very good practitioners of their trade, and good at motivating me to carry on the lessons ourselves.

Stretching on my own was losing its effectiveness and I wanted to see if there was a deeper problem that needed professional help. I had appointments with both Kathy and Annie. Unfortunately my first few experiences weren't that positive as far as the therapists being on time (for one appointment I had to wait 30 mins, due to traffic. But imagine if it was the reverse, I'm sure I would have been charged as a no show or wouldn't have been able to still have my appointment that day). It was a bit odd working with 2 therapists, as it seemed they both had their own approach to PT that didn't always line up with the other's instruction. Annie was nice and pleasant to work with. However, after about a month of going twice a week every week, I asked if she thought the sessions were what I needed (because they aren't cheap!) She recommended yoga. My last comment is regarding their billing practices. I paid the first bill in the office, and received the second bill in the mail. However the bill stated it was already past due. I called the office to pay and asked why the bill was past due. I was given some excuse about the way the insurance payments hit. That's unacceptable to me and has never happened in all of my adult life. Overall the experience going to STAR was one I didn't feel I benefited from, and could have saved a lot of time and money.

I had been having trouble with persistent Achilles tendon and planter fascia issues. I previously had done physical therapy for about three months with a different provider, but it really did not solve the problem. When I landed on Ms. Dickson's door step, I was in a lot of pain and had been dealing with the issue for over a year. Ms. Dickson was very patient with me and spent much one-on-one time isolating the various issues. She is different from the typical physical therapy places in the sense that she won't give up on you, gives you tons of individual attention and works on the ailing body part or parts (!) to get everything in working properly and in alignment. My previous experiences with physical therapy generally included maybe 15 minutes with the physical therapist before being handed off to an assistant for the exercise portion of the therapy. Ms. Dickson works with you exclusively, both in the hands on work and the exercise portion. Her office is very well run. While she doesn't process insurance, she will provide the documentation needed to submit to your individual insurance company and this documentation is provided promptly. My insurance company accepted her bills without question. She also has an automated email reminder of upcoming appointments which I found helpful. Finally, and most importantly, she checks in with you regularly and is available for any questions or concerns. Ms. Dickson responds quickly to any questions I had, which I have greatly appreciated. I highly recommend Danelle Dickson for any physical therapy needs you may have. If it wasn't for the welcoming atmosphere and convenient location of Woodley Park Yoga, I don't know if I would've kept up my practice. As a newbie to yoga, I take the beginner class on Saturdays at 11am and the guided quarter primary class on Tuesdays at 7pm, both taught by Elsie. She has a calming voice, goes over the poses for new folks, and encourages you through the more difficult poses. The beginner class is easier if you've at least tried yoga at another studio or at home with YouTube videos. Be prepared to sweat a little! The studio is sizeable and allows 13-15 people max depending on the class. You can store your yoga mat in the back room, and there are wipes for your mat. I don't usually see blocks or towels readily available, but ask if you need them. The studio is on the third floor of a four-story building in Woodley Park, above Uni Sushi (no elevator). There's a small bathroom in the back of the studio. If I can think of only one downside, it's not being able to pay for classes online in advance, even though you can reserve your spot online. You need to go to the studio and purchase classes directly with the teacher, which takes time before/after class if you're waiting for others to pay too. Better to just buy a pack of 5, 10, or 20 classes if you plan to come back regularly. Checking in relies a bit on the honor system: you write your name on a card and the number of classes, then cross each number off when you show up to class. Whether your a seasoned yogi or a newbie like me, I highly recommend dropping in Woodley Park Yoga for a class!
