With lunch in downtown being a minimum of $15 anywhere you go, going to do all you can eat places I feel like gets the most bang for your buck. Is it the most healthy option? No, but in this economy, who can afford to be healthy? I kid, I kid. Upper Crust is my go to spot for pizza whenever I am in the office. For $16 (minus a soda because I only get water) you get an all you can eat pizza buffet with a full salad bar. The pizza always comes out piping hot. They usually have combo, Hawaiian, cheese and pepperoni pizza's out. Other than the great value, another thing that I love the most is the soup that they have. I am a sucker for chicken noodle soup and they make a pretty good one at that. I wanna say they rotate that daily but the last few times I've gone it's been chicken noodle soup and I'm not complaining! read more

I stopped by Upper Crust Pizza for lunch on Friday and did their 2 slices + soda lunch special for $10. Not a bad deal for lunch downtown. You choose from whatever slices are available from the buffet selection. I grabbed the last slice of supreme and a slice of Hawaiian since that's what was left at the time. They were good for the price, though I probably could have waited the 10 minutes for fresh pizzas to come out of the oven. I'm normally not a complainer about food for me to pay 4 dollars and some change for a slice of pizza and have 3 slices of pepperonis on each of them was very Annoying. This place is dirty and overpriced but even worse than the lack of sanitation and the poor ambience is the abysmal customer service. I personally would never eat here because it's gross. However, earlier today an unhoused woman asked me to get her some food from here. We entered together. I made it clear that I was purchasing the pizza buffet for the woman I was with and not myself. Cashier had no problem with this. She rang me up (charged me over $20 for the buffet and a drink). Then a male employee comes over and tells us that they will not serve her and she needs to leave. I pointed out that they had already charged me and should give me food to go to compensate. They refused and said they "have a policy". This was clearly not the case. If they "had a policy", the cashier would have been aware of said policy. The cashier said she did not know. Fine. Whatever. I don't agree with this brand-new policy that was apparently just made up on the spot, but we have no problem getting some food to go. Then the manager came over and started yelling at me saying he's going to ban me from the restaurant for life. Fine by me. Like I said, this place is nasty and I would never eat here, but I kept that to myself. I told the manager he was needlessly escalating the situation. He continued to yell at me and say, "NO YOU'RE ESCALATING!". I told him that we were leaving and that there was nothing to litigate but that he shouldn't treat people that way and he said, "NO YOU SHOULDN'T TREAT PEOPLE THAT WAY!"-- just like the emotional intelligence of a toddler. Not sure why this big man got so activated and felt like he needed to scream at two 5-foot women, but it ruined my day. You don't get to take people's money and then scream at them. Shameful. Disgusting. I'm shocked that someone can make it to the position of manager with people skills that are that abhorrent. Stopped by while attending SacAnime. Glad we did, because it was raining and all you can eat pizza, salad, soup, and pasta just sounded comforting, and it was a great deal. Could tell this place is primarily family-run, and the pizza was good classic pizza! Good amount of options at the salad bar (I downed a ton of pesto pasta salad and potato salad), and it was nice to also have some classic tomato sauce pasta and vegetable soup on the side. For $14 and some change, you can get an All You Can Eat (AYCE) buffet. The pizzas are pepperoni, Hawaiian, and vegetarian. The salad bar has two types of lettuce mix, lots of toppings, potato salad, and pesto pasta salad. The bar also includes a hot soup and garlic, cheese pizza sticks. The pizzas are yummy. Yeasty bready crust. Oohh it smells and tastes great. The cheese and sauce were tasty. The salad bar had a variety of options. Solid pizza and salad lunch buffet. They are not stingy and do keep the buffet pizzas coming out. The salad bar was amply stocked and replenished as well. Everything looked gorgeously fresh... plump cherry tomatoes, green crisp lettuce mix, sliced firm mushrooms. Surprisingly my favorite item in the salad bar was the pesto pasta salad. I say surprisingly because it looked very simply made. But the pasta had a perfect doneness, not chewy nor mushy, and a good pesto flavor. The salad bar was fresh and well maintained. They even had hot soup and pasta. I've done the buffet a couple of times. I think the salad buffet is good, with lots of basic veggies to choose from like Romaine and iceberg lettuce, carrots, peppers, olives, red onion and even alfalfa sprouts, as well as the basic dressings like ranch, vinaigrettes and others. (There's more that I didn't list here because I didn't want this review to sound like a grocery list!) All in all, I recommend Upper Crust. But if you're going to do the lunch buffet, here's one suggestion: For a couple dollars extra, forgo the couple pizza slices sitting at the buffet and substitute a small personal pizza made to order. The clam chowder was the soup of the day and I absolutely hated it. One of the worst I have ever eaten. I took one bite and couldn't eat the rest. My favorite had to be the cheesy breadsticks and that was definitely delicious! We had an event at the Sheridan Grand Downtown this weekend. I coordinated with Tanya to put together a group lunch pre order. She gave us a couple great options. Our attendees were able to order & pay by Venmo and they delivered the lunches on our break. We didn't have to go looking for lunch, or wait in lines. It lacks in atmosphere, but the buffet looked very nice, with 4-5 pizza options, soup, pasta and a very nice salad bar. With a water, it was under $10. The biggest disappointment was that they only give one plate and bowl. If you go back, you have to use the same plate and bowl, which is a health code violation in California (or at least it was 5 years ago when my local Pizza Hut in the Bay Area shut down for continued write ups) or you have to ask for a new plate each time. The next disappointment is that they use Styrofoam plates, bowls and cups and plastic utensils.Their trash waste must be monstrous! On the good side, the pizza was quite good. I was there just before 1pm and the place was packed, so the pizza was coming out pretty steadily and was hot. I was impressed by their sauce. The crust was tasty, something between deep dish and thin, but not quite hand tossed. The ingredients were fresh and plentiful. The clam chowder was better than expected, but I didn't notice the crackers at another location across from the food buffet, until after I'd eaten mine. It was very tasty and appropriately thick. The salad was fresh and cold and the blue cheese dressing was quality. Some places use a low quality blue cheese dressing. This had nice chunks of cheese and a very creamy taste. The staff were nice and bonus points for the great '80s music playing in the kitchen. I would be back, but I would also ask that they have a sign informing customers not to bring used plates to the buffet and to have plates sitting out for us to use on demand. We almost reconsidered when we saw how long the line was, but decided to stick with it. Lunch buffet plus a small fountain drink came out to $13.57. The super thin and flimsy paper plates and styrofoam salad bowls were a bit odd and screamed cheap. A lot of the salad items looked unappetizing and possibly a day or two too old. They had a hard time keeping up with demand on the pizza. I wanted a slice of combo but it was gone within a minute each time. The first slice of pepperoni was actually very good with crispy meats and crust. On my second trip to the buffet the only thing that was available and looked appetizing was, again, the pepperoni. Only this time it seemed rushed and the pepperoni was soggy and not crispy at all. I will probably try another restaurant in the area tomorrow during part 2 of the seminar. read more

The all you can eat buffet which includes a variety of fresh pizza, salad bar, and soup for $9.50 is the way to go. For $11.75 you can add a drink with unlimited refills. I visited this establishment today 1/5/23 with my wife and 2 young children for a quick lunch before attending a show at the nearby Safe CU Center. We ordered a pizza to share and the food quality was subpar but it was relatively cheap and relatively quick. While wrapping up lunch a young employee hand carried a meal out to the dining room near us and called out the name on the order, to which no one answered. The employee then returned to the kitchen, I assume double checked the name on the order and returned to the dining area, called out the same name and no one responded. The employee again returned to the kitchen to notify the "boss". The boss then came to the dining room, found the owner of the food, and immediately returned to the kitchen (located in the middle of the restaurant visible to patrons) and began verbally abusing the young employee at the top of his lungs before directing the employee to get out. The boss then began trashing the kitchen. He kicked a garbage can over, tossed several pizza cooking pans across the kitchen, used a large pizza spatula to beat on the side of the oven, and the list goes on. This was quite the surprise to all patrons in the establishment, especially my young children. I immediately went up to the counter and asked to speak to the owner. The boss ignored me so I asked again. An employee standing there pointed at the boss and said "he's the owner". The boss/owner then left the area. My family wrapped up our lunch and began to leave. Just then the boss/owner returned to the dining area, so before exiting I told him his behavior and treatment of his employee was unacceptable particularly in front of young children patrons. The owner had yet another opportunity to apologize for his actions but instead made it a point to tell me "I can say whatever I want". I highly recommend no one visit this this establishment for any reason. The owner's conduct and treatment of his staff is unacceptable. I intend to follow up with a formal complaint to DCA and BBB. read more
