An unusual name, a wonderful service.

Do you want to sit down in a calm environment away from the hustle and bustle of the city and tuck in to a Sweet and Sour Thing? Maybe some Marinated Rice or Crispy Hainan Style Rice? It's not easy in a meat-eater's world to find those special places where a Vegan or a Vegetarian can happily hang out and enjoy a munch, but Thea provides you with an oasis to do exactly that. Maybe you have food allergies? Tell them, they will do what they can to help while still feeding you for about ten dollars. The system at Thea is unique. Sit at your table and tick the circle on the menu to indicate what you'd like to have; and there's a lot to select from in this cosy tea house if you're just after a drink. Passion Green Tea, Milky Taro Tea, Almond Milk Tea... all kinds of exotic and subtle flavours to entice your palate. The eating is good as well. Curry Buns, Noodles and Yam Samosas are just a few of the selections. You will feel relaxed and sated and you will come back to eat again and again. It is quite wonderful.

This is like the hangout place for most of my vegetarian friends. The owner Mr Chan regularly has tea drinking sessions downstairs where he invites friends and patrons to sit down and chat over good quality tea. There are 2 floors, the ground floor and downstairs and the food and atmosphere of the place are great. They have a good selection of normal and bubble tea and I will normally find myself getting the lavender flavoured one. Knowing the family that runs the business is also probably another reason I am drawn to this place and having a good friend who used to be a waiter here doesn't hurt as well. That said, the service has always been good, and because of the close vegetarian community, the people who work there tend to be friends with the owners and they spend time outside as well as in the work place. Located along Gawler Place in the city, you wouldn't know this place was there if you didn't happen to be walking past it, but it really is a great place for a meal not just for vegetarians. Some of their dishes come with fake meat, so even if you're an avid meat eater, you can still enjoy a plate of "chicken" rice or "fish" in your meals. This is one of quite a few vegetarian places in the city, but by far it is one my favourites and one of the best places around if you're looking for asian vegetarian food.

I'm not a vegan or a vegetarian, but if I'm out and there are meat-free options I'm always curious to try. I have way too much meat in my diet anyway, so any chance to have a meal not involving meat is always appealing to me. Thea is a great way to enjoy Chinese dishes without the meat, and serves as an ideal choice for vegans and vegetarians. I once came here with two of my friends, both of them strict vegans, and I thought to myself, "Why the hell not? Eating vegan can't hurt". I ordered chicken rice, and the prospect of fake chicken didn't really excite me all that much. However, to my surprise, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Of course, the taste and texture of the "chicken" wasn't overly convincing (I'm assuming it was TVP), but it still tasted great and I really enjoyed the meal. The grape tea was also good, though I was a little disappointed with myself for not trying any of their hot teas! The only problem is that many Chinese dishes rely heavily on the kind of animal meat being used in the dish, and more often than not it serves as the main feature. The way the meat is cooked is also critical in the dish's taste and texture, and cooking it a particular way may dramatically affect the way it is enjoyed. TVP, on the other hand, doesn't have too many ways to be cooked, and is therefore limited in the dishes that it can be incorporated in. As a result, I found myself putting sauce on every piece of "chicken" I ate. The sauces were tasty, but a little too sweet for my liking. Having said that, there isn't a wealth of choices for vegans and vegetarians when it comes to Chinese cuisine, and I'm glad that Thea caters to those that don't want to miss out simply because they're a little more sensitive to living creatures than the rest of us.

It is big & airy with plenty of space for prams, wheelchairs etc. Unfortunately they're really the only things going for it. Myself & my friend both ordered pots of tea. Reading off the tea menu they both sounded awesome, & full of flavor, but in reality they were incredibly weak with maybe a teaspoon full of tea in each pot. That was the first disappointment. The second was the food. There wasn't a huge range but being a tea house that didn't really bother me. What did bother me was that the "assorted quiche" that I ordered came out crazy hot fresh from the microwave, on a chipped plate with a mental fork & wooden disposable knife & not a side, salad or garnish in sight. I've had better quiche in a takeaway container :( I really wouldn't bother going back.

The space is quite inviting and plenty of room for the pram. There is also a high hair available. I have made several visits here and have always received genuinely friendly service. There is quite a lengthy menu of teas to choose from. This time I chose a pot of the Organic Genmaicha, and after letting it brew for an extra minute like my server suggested, it was perfect. Then I had the spinach/leek/feta quiche filo, which was served warm but without any accompaniments. This was agreeable enough, but one does wonder, why does it come with a metal fork and wooden knife? My curiosity got the better of me and I asked the server - the wooden cutlery is used because it is eco friendly, however they found that the wooden forks weren't really working, so metal forks are used instead. So now you know. There was a great selection of desserts, and I couldn't resist the white chocolate gluten free friand. It was just what I was wanting, sweet and dense, however next time I will take then up in their offer to warm it up first (it was a bit cold having been in their refrigerated display case). All in all this is a spot I would choose again for a quiet cup of tea, but will probably lunch elsewhere next time.

Quite a large interior and really tastefully decorated in a modern yet quirky kind of way. They sell everything from tea cups to small box's of chocolate to have when your drinking your tea at home. So adorable. Obviously their tea range is huge, with a vast variety of flavours. I especially love their green tea range. The staff are fantastic and friendly, and if your a regular...they'll remember your name! The only downside of the location is finding a park. If your a tea lover, T2 is a must visit. They also have a membership program which you can earn points every time you buy something in store or from their website. Recommended.

Its black exterior, red logo and dimly lit interior gives it a somewhat artsy, dark feel. Not to say that it's bad, of course. It's something different, which is always interesting. Seemingly, T2's take on tea (try that for a tongue twister) is trendy and current, with a wide range of teas all marketed with a modern twist. There are also tea cups, glasses, pots, and even kids' tea sets available for purchase.

If your not into your hot tea I seriously recommend the lemon ice tea as it puts any mainstream and mass-produced brand to shame. The staff are extremely helpful, efficient and somehow they always seemed to be smiling. It may be hard for me to admit, but I am still mastering the art of 'chopsticks". However this has never stopped me continuously attempting to perfect the skill . After my 5th consecutive dumpling drop one staff member approached to congratulate me on my chopstick persistence. This clearly surprised my dining company as they had clearly witnessed my inadequate skill. What they didn't realise was the staff member had sneakily passed me a fork under the table...just incase I needed it.
