It has everything that any gym-goer could need, including plenty of barbells and free weights as well as machines and cable equipment for the weight lifters. For those seeking cardio, there's multiple treadmills, bikes, rowers, stairmasters, elliptical, and an entire yoga room for body movements. Objectively, one could not ask for me. I think the most impressive characteristic of this gym is how well it is kept up to date and clean. New equipment and replacements are commonplace, and the entire gym is always clean with plenty of disinfectant wipes around to clean machines (which everyone uses consistently). The staff are incredibly kind and accommodating and tend to engage with their gym-goers on occasion, which is always a nice touch for your local gym. Overall, definitely the nicest Anytime I've gone to. I love it here.

I was interested in student plan $40 initiation fee, $35/mo. I visited 4/17 and dealt with the woman at the counter. I repeatedly told her that I wanted the $40/$35 student plan. She handed me a contract for a 12 month plan, which I did not want. After going in circles with her for a bit of time, she took my credit card and fiddled with her computer. Then she handed me paperwork showing completely incorrect charges. I asked her to reverse them and fix the problem. Eventually, she gave up and got her manager, Tony, involved. Tony worked on the computer for a bit and at one point, I had several pending $64 charges on my card. Then he seemed to have the problem under control and he charged my card $40 and $18.72. Since $18.72 is more than 1/2 of $35, that charge didn't make any sense for half a month. I called Tony on 4/17 and told him that I had several authorizations on my card still. I asked if we could just forget it all and cancel the membership and refund everything, including the $40 and $18.72. He said no problem, and I emailed him a copy of the credit card bill showing the current state of it. On 4/18, two charges moved from authorization to posted - $40 and $18.72. I emailed a copy of the statement to Tony and requested that he refund the charges, as we had both agreed. It's now nearly two weeks later and I still have charges on my card. I have filed complaints with BBB and Illinois Attorney General. If they don't come to their senses soon, I'll file a lawsuit in small claims court. Having all these authorizations on my card made it impossible for me to shop for groceries for three days. I wish businesses were much more careful with charges that they post to customer cards. Accidental charges aren't just frustrating to see and resolve, they can have unanticipated consequences for cardholders. Kicked to the Curb, Ghosted and Ripped Off--After being a loyal and consistent client at Kinex for…read moreover 9 years, staying through management and staff changes, staff bickering, downsizing and the COVID pandemic closure, I was notified by my trainer of more than a year and a half, that she was leaving under unclear circumstances. She told me to expect a refund of $150.00 for pre-paid, unused sessions. She informed me that there was no one there to train me any longer. When I asked for some explanation, she said that because it took her 'longer' to put together my workouts because of neck and knee injuries (the knee injury that I got while training with her) that I have, that this was 'toxic' for her. Yeah, she actually said that. And, yeah, a 'personal' trainer, whose job by definition is to customize workouts for individual clients based on their limitations and goals actually told me that the time she needed to do her job as it related to me was 'toxic' to her. Regarding the unused sessions, the refund never came. After I attempted to find out when and how I would receive the refund from the manager, he told me that he didn't know, and claimed that he had never done one before. I thought this was unlikely, given that he's the manager. He pushed me off to the owner who cannot be reached directly because all of the contact numbers on the website are out of service. Then the manager just ghosted me. So, if you're considering going to Kinex, think about how they treat long-time clients, and go elsewhere.

I was so surprise that he didn't have a yelp site yet (dudes been doing this for the last 20 years), but when I was looking for a boxing gym, 3 dudes from the area all named Coach Luyando. I can see why. He's been functioning by word of mouth and its hella evident that he's good at what he does. It's a boxing gym so don't expect the amenities of sauna and stuff, just expect to be worked out and I mean really really really really worked out. You work out side by side licensed boxers and those hungry for the license, so expect to be pushed. Yes, it is predominantly male gym so it can be intimidating (at least for me it was) when you first walk in, but you quickly recognize that people are there to train and coach and the senior members of the gym will make sure you ain't looking like a fool or feeling alienated. It's a great gym. And feel lucky to have found it.
