The fitness center is like the Nova Corps: It looks pretty and shiny, but once you get inside and…read morelook around you realize it's a bit of a wreck. Situated on the west side of ISU's campus, its exterior is aesthetically pleasing. A lovely flyover of University St. and interesting lines, it's a cool piece of architecture. However, as you get inside you start to get really depressed, and are tacitly encouraged not to ever consider hiring any of ISU's engineering or architecture graduates. For all of its space, the rec is laid out like an erratic 4-year old planned it. Some nautilus equipment is here, other equipment is on the other side of the building. Some aerobic equipment is at the far end of the 1/8-mile track, other equipment is 3 floors below. Too narrow a space with too little ability to organize eqiupment has rendered the workout areas disjunct and too spaced. The electronics (WiFi and the TVs on some of the aerobic machines) are often malfunctioning. The locker rooms were designed and laid out without any forethought or planning: Lockers jamed into 90-degree corners so that users have to stand 5-abreast while changing in a confined space, no ventilation leaving it humid by mid-day, and with the weight room above so that anyone showering or changing feels they are doing so amid the siege of Kabul. For what was supposed to be the pride of ISU, it becomes a craphole of a place upon cursory inspection. To its credit, it is cheap (about $20/month membership for faculty/staff, "included" via fees for enrolled students) and readily accessible albiet with no available parking. Really a testament to a lack of beta testing, forethought, or concern for long term usability, its the only option on-campus, so its monopoly means it can get away with much more than a competitive market; but while architecturally interesting the fitness center doesn't rival the quality or interior aesthetics of even nearby Illinois Weslyan or schools in ISU's weight class.

It has 4 lanes and I have never had to wait to swim. The locker room is open to anyone and there are plenty of lockers inside. The rec has every piece of equipment you would want to use. Cardio machines, free weights, strength training machines, indoor track, rock climbing wall, basketball courts, and fitness classrooms are all here. There is even a Jamba Juice for your post workout. Illinois State has one of the very best facilities for students to work out.

It is such a lovely facility…read more With my husband's job we spend many weekends each fall at different camp facilities and this has been one of my favorites. I was really impressed by have nice the cabins were. They were modern and clean, and even had fun decorations to make it feel less like a camp and more like a home. The staff were kind and helpful. They offered a great salad bar at lunch and dinner and a yogurt bar at breakfast. Their homemade cinnamon rolls were so good! As I didn't request the services, I cannot speak to that aspect, nor can I speak to the value, but my family loved the available activities (especially the zip line). We can't wait to come back!

It was an awesome opportunity for us to come as a group that normally wouldn't be able to come for a camp experience all together. We got to do knife throwing, zip line (all pictured), paddle boating, swimming, challenge mountain, and chapel in the evening. Activities that were available but we didn't make it to include rock climbing, cliff zip, archery, sand volleyball, canoeing, fishing (bring your own fishing pole), creek walk, prayer walk, paintball, and skeet shooting (was too windy). Meals were great and they were able to accommodate our gluten free needs, even for dessert! Can't wait to come back! The cabin rentals were a great deal for an overnight stay if I had more time.

I have never felt like as valued and respected as I do now. I am so thrilled to be a part of this community. They are great people and give 150% of what people pay for. I'm hoping I can get my wife and grandsons to come in once in a while. Thank you, your manager Tye is amazing.

I was interested in student plan $40 initiation fee, $35/mo. I visited 4/17 and dealt with the woman at the counter. I repeatedly told her that I wanted the $40/$35 student plan. She handed me a contract for a 12 month plan, which I did not want. After going in circles with her for a bit of time, she took my credit card and fiddled with her computer. Then she handed me paperwork showing completely incorrect charges. I asked her to reverse them and fix the problem. Eventually, she gave up and got her manager, Tony, involved. Tony worked on the computer for a bit and at one point, I had several pending $64 charges on my card. Then he seemed to have the problem under control and he charged my card $40 and $18.72. Since $18.72 is more than 1/2 of $35, that charge didn't make any sense for half a month. I called Tony on 4/17 and told him that I had several authorizations on my card still. I asked if we could just forget it all and cancel the membership and refund everything, including the $40 and $18.72. He said no problem, and I emailed him a copy of the credit card bill showing the current state of it. On 4/18, two charges moved from authorization to posted - $40 and $18.72. I emailed a copy of the statement to Tony and requested that he refund the charges, as we had both agreed. It's now nearly two weeks later and I still have charges on my card. I have filed complaints with BBB and Illinois Attorney General. If they don't come to their senses soon, I'll file a lawsuit in small claims court. Having all these authorizations on my card made it impossible for me to shop for groceries for three days. I wish businesses were much more careful with charges that they post to customer cards. Accidental charges aren't just frustrating to see and resolve, they can have unanticipated consequences for cardholders.
