2 meat plate with bread, okra and fries.

4 on a Saturday. Had the LSU game on. Brisket was good, ribs were solid. The smoked then fried chicken wings appetizer was the show stealer for me. I like a more vinegar based sauce but the meats were flavored well enough to make the sauce unnecessary. Hand cut fries and okra that seemed fresh and not from a bag were delicious. Service was good and staff was professional. I like the eclectic style of the place. I will be back to try the burgers.

The little town of Coushatta has a hand full of fast food places as well as some sit down to eat restaurants. The York Chop is one of those little town quaint places to stop in and get a bite to eat. When you enter you walk up and place your order and work your way down the line and pick your sides (and dessert if you choose), then you pay at the end of the line and get your drink cup. They have a nice serve yourself drink center with lots of options and they have the GOOD ice! You can then choose a booth or a table. The staff was very friendly and attentive with the only downfall for me was poor cellphone reception. I got the 2-meat plate which came with two sides and bread. The chicken and sausage was good but the bbq sauce (on the side) was just ok. The potato salad was homemade and fresh and was good. Not the best I ever had but that's just a personal liking thing. The green beans were very good to me and the french bread was nice. The serving sizes were very generous! Can't wait to stop in again the next time I pass through town and try some other dishes.

This is a real hidden gem! The sides are really well made and delicious. The brisket, pulled pork and sausage are all first-rate.

Food was good but over priced. Paid 18.50 for 3 pieces of brisket and about 6 medallions of sausage.

If you are within 2 hours of Coushatta, this place is worth every mile. Next time I go, I'll bring a cooler so I can bring some home.

Do not miss the Magnolia Pit if you're within driving distance of Shreveport. My husband, kids,…read moreand I were in Shreveport visiting family over Christmas, and everyone was tired of cooking and eating leftovers. We heard this place was good, so off we went. The first thing we noticed was the secret, speakeasy vibe. Off the bright street we entered a short, dark hallway with "brick covered" revolving door. You just have to see it. Once in the "Pit" we were greeted by one of the friendliest cashiers. He seemed genuinely happy to be there, and he was super helpful as we made our selections. The kids and I got the Pit Master so we could try a little bit of everything. It came with portions of brisket, chicken, ribs, sausage, turkey, and their firecracker pork belly bites as well as four sides of your choice, corn bread, cheddar beer bread, and two desserts. Hubby got a brisket cheddar melt. We ended up with so much food we brought home leftovers for another few meals. Holy smokes! Let me say, I've lived in San Antonio for the last 15 years and eaten A LOT of bbq around the state. Aaron Franklin in Austin has long had my heart for bbq. But the Magnolia Pit in Shreveport does not play. Everything was seasoned well, and juicy, but the brisket...oh the brisket! Perfect bark, nice and juicy, and not fatty at all. My non-foodie kids liked the ribs so well, we had to order a couple extra. If you are not familiar with pork belly or burnt ends, I highly recommend at least getting the firecracker pork belly bites as an appetizer. We all thought they were phenomenal. The brisket melt sandwich was thick and so flavorful. I can see why it is one of the most ordered things on the menu. Sometimes the sides are an afterthought at bbq joints. Not at the Magnolia Pit. The corn maque choux is crazy good. It's creamy, smoky, and has a bit of a kick. The potato salad tasted homemade, and the dirty rice was a fun surprise. Do not miss the creamy macaroni and cheese that is topped with bbq schnibbles. The kids went to town on that. I swear we took a couple to go boxes, and did not eat it all in one sitting! Do the same when you go, because their in-house made desserts are so good. We shared the bread pudding and the buttermilk pie. Fantastic sauce to pudding ratio on the bread pudding. The pie was so smooth and creamy, I may just order one to take to my in-laws' next time I'm in town. Anyway, do yourself a favor and get on over to the Magnolia Pit. The food, ambiance, and friendly staff made this a fun adventure I can't wait to go on again.

The restaurant is very simple. There is nothing fancy about the ambience at all. It's just downhome country. You order at the register and then grab a table. We got there just before the after church Sunday rush so we were able to find a table easily. Shortly after we got our food, the line was out the door. The food came very quickly. They call your name and bring the food to the table. I had a two meat platter with turkey and brisket. The turkey was tender and just slightly smoky. The brisket was excellent. I forgot to ask for lean like I usually do but the brisket was not overly fatty. The meat was very smoky, very tender, and very flavorful. The portion was generous for $18. I would guess half a pound of each meat (?) The sauce on the table is a bit sweet and tangy. The BBQ beans were excellent. The potato salad was good but needed salt. We all enjoyed our meal. Even the kid, who is super picky, ate a bunch of brisket. It was a good choice and I definitely would eat here again if we came to Jefferson City.

This place looks fun from the outside and a bit dicey on the inside, but the line told me I was in the right place. It was almost back to the door when I walked in, but it moved quickly. Seating is pretty limited, especially for a party of one or two as most tables have 5-6 places. Everybody was so friendly. I think I could've asked to sit down if I wanted to, but I went ahead and got my order to go. The menu seems pretty reasonable with baskets and platters between $10 and $18. A lot of reviews seem to talk about the Swamp Fries, so I had to get a small order of those. I also got the sliced Brisket sandwich with a side of onion rings. The brisket barbecue is served dry but has a good smoke right on it and good flavor by itself, but they give you plenty of barbecue sauce to add to it. That's exactly what I did along with some pickles to make my sandwich taste just right . The Swamp Fries are wonderful with fresh FF, smothered in chopped brisket, shredded cheese, and sliced jalapeños. There's no way I could've eaten a large so I'm glad even though it was just two dollars more I decided to opt for the smaller portion and still had leftovers to take home. Overall, really good food definitely worth a stop in.
