History
Established in 2005.
The first yoga studio established in Smithfield, NC. We started with just one or two classes a week and now teach everyday. We have several teacher trainings, workshops, and events. As the positive health values of yoga and meditation become more recognized within the health and medical industry, our name as offering quality service has grown. We promote health and wellness, are firmly rooted in the concepts of prevention and intervention as necessary methods of self care and health.
Meet the Business Owner: Martha B.
Martha has always loved being a teacher. Yoga has been her method for maintaining personal health and wellness for several decades. Put the two together and The Yoga Connection was created in 2005. Though always physically active, yoga has a special meaning in her life. After a serious accident 20 years ago involving 4 fractured vertebrae and multiple other injuries, yoga therapy is what healed and maintained her body and mind. After receiving her 200 hour yoga training in 2003, she applied to the Duke Integrative Medicine program to become a Health Coach, then continued on at the Duke campus for training in mindful awareness meditation, Senior Yoga with Carol Krucoff and Kimberly Carson, and mindful eating for healthy weight. In May of 2013 she complete both a 700 hour yoga therapy training and her master's degree in Health Psychology. Martha offers yoga in its full spectrum (meditation, therapy and life style changes) through classes, private sessions and teacher trainings.
