This business is owned by Jimmie Smith and Otha Burrage…read more They pay $312 per year for a City of Champaign street vendor permit. I've seen them set up at the corner of State and Bradley in Champaign on Saturdays. The half chicken meal was $5.75 and came with a lot of chicken, two slices of Wonderbread and a bag of chips. Chicken was amazing - smoked to perfection. But the barbecue sauce was extra, extra mild and had that fresh-off-the-grocery-store-shelf taste. A real barbecue joint would make its own sauce and it would make at least some of it hot. Who eats barbecue with mild sauce? Soup sandwiches do - that's who.

Things are little slow in the winter, so they are irregular and you just have to see if they are set up. I picked up 3 platters of ribs and tips a couple weeks ago for my family and we have been craving them ever since. Tender juicy meat that falls off the bone, nicely seasoned, with sauce on the side. The sauce is tomato-based, like something off the shelf, but nothing I'm familiar with -- probably customized a bit. It's mild, sweet-sour-tangy but not hot/spicy. I happen to like it a lot, but I know others want more heat. The ribs and tips platter is $8 and enough to serve 2 people or 1 very hungry person. Comes with bread and chips. These ribs are great, and I can't stop thinking about getting more. Just the smell is awesome. In fact, these guys have no signage -- the smell is what sells it. I understand they also do catering. You can find their number if you do some deep Googling, but I'll leave it off here in case they don't want too many random calls.

This was only my first or second time trying a food truck on campus, so in the CU food truck…read morecommunity, I'm a novice at best. From what I can tell this is a very new (and good) addition to the food trucks on campus. I happened to be walking near the east side of Siebel around lunch time when I saw the Hendrick House truck setting up. I went up without even having to wait in line (1-2 people milling around, if that) and was greeted pleasantly by a cashier. I asked a couple of questions, checked out the short menu, and read their claim of only "fresh, local organic food" and decided to go for it. I ordered the "chicken taco" for $6, which was actually three hard shell chicken tacos loaded with lettuce, cheese, onions, salsa verde, breaded spicy chicken and probably some other ingredients I'm missing. They took about 5 minutes to make, and were absolutely delicious! A good amount of food for the price. They only had 4 things on the menu when I was there, and they were $7, $6, $4, and $3 (the $7 item being a steak sandwich). This is not a place trying to rip you off, and everything seemed fresh. Go check it out! Enjoyable experience all around. I would recommend this to anyone.

However as for it fulfilling my falafel craving, this did not do it. The dish was very difficult to eat (no way to pick up the wrap/taco). The falafel pieces were very large and not quite the crispy texture associated with falafel for me. The flavor was good, just no craving fulfillment.

Scanning the food places we picked this because it seemed to have decent ratings and a lot of reviews. Plus, you get go wrong with good ol' American cuisine. The first kind of hiccup is that they must have recently moved building. Though they moved right next to their existing building, there was no signage and we had to rely on our own eyeballs. Which almost led us into the wrong building. Not a bid deal, realistically, but it threw us for a loop. Getting inside, it was super clean. Long bar, plenty of tables, modern, many tvs for many sports. Plus, the building itself seemed rather large. A chonker of a building, if you ask me. Our hostess brought us into what seemed like the back 40 of the building and seated us next to a garage door that overlooked a cement pad that will one day be a cement pad with things on it. Not even mad. Saw a train. Here's the money shot. Have you ever been happy adjacent? Have you ever been right up to the edge, the precipice, the peak, then turn around and leave? That was kind of the ideal feeling here. The ambiance and service and general-ness of the entire place was spot on. The food itself looked top-tier. But it felt a click away from perfection. Let's look into it. As a hefty man (fat, not the garbage bag brand), I'm a man of appetizers. Also of wings. Therefore, sign me up for 12 bone in wings for an app. Split into three flavors: Carolina BBQ, Buffalo, and regular BBQ. They came out looking and smelling delicious. The sauce flavors hit hard. But I was a little let down with the dryness of the wings. I know sometimes it can be difficult to knock a wing out of the park because those damn things just want to get crispy. But I don't want to fight chewing the meat off the bone. It felt like a battle me and my mush mouth would lose. Now, from what I understood, all sides were a la cart. Color me fine with that, fatty will order anyways. Especially since I saw they offered street corn AND hushpuppies. So naturally, that's what I ordered. The hushpuppies came out and were the round kind. Which I am no stranger to. They had good flavor, good done-ness, but missed the mark on the size. If they were hush people, they would have been premies. A little sad they didn't get to experience their full potential. Now, for this part I will say I was forewarned. My server did mention the street corn came in a bowl and was served cold. I thought I was better than somebody who judged street corn by its temperature. I was wrong. It did come cold. And because of that, it was not tasty. Missed the mark completely. I did get a bonus side, your typical, run of the mill French fry. They came out and looked great. Meadiu
