I'm surprised by the low rating for this hospital but then again, I can only speak for the ICU. Every doctor and nurse (ok, almost every nurse) were amazing in their attentiveness in caring for my father. No request we had was too great. No questions were a bother. Everyone was extremely helpful and took the time to explain and go over everything that was happening, about to happen or might happen. I just want to shout-out the angels (aka: nurses) of the ICU, especially Jon, Olivia, Barbara and Sean. The ICU waiting room was definitely a second home for the three weeks of nearly daily visits that I made here. Patient Services is located inside the waiting room and they definitely put up with dozens of family members sitting around for hours with Dunkin' Donuts Box of Joe's and loud Polish voices talking and laughing at all hours. Patient Services hooked us up with playing cards, stress balls, blankets and allowed us to use a reclining chair in the room so we could take turns napping. Best of all, they put my family on a list for parking so that we wouldn't have to pay the daily fees. That made visiting a bit less stressful to maintain for three weeks of constant visitations. I wish I wasn't there at all and that I didn't meet all the amazing people that work here, but I did. And for that I can't give them anything short of 5 stars. (Kind of morbid to be reviewing the ICU on yelp, I realize that. No one ever ends up here by choice.)

The check in process was the absolute WORST! Their computers were down, however, that wasn't the issue, the issue was how the front desk reception team handled it and that was absolutely terrible! Rude, impatient and condescending. Then when they finally came around to getting a bit of order back, they handed me the wrong ID back and said someone would call me back shortly ... SIGH! I was there for a severely sprained ankle and instead of saying someone would wheel me back in a wheelchair, they saw me limping, asked if I needed one, and let me decide on what needed to happen. Once I was in the back I must say that it was a complete 180. The Physician Assistant, Nurses, Radiologist, Support Staff ... everyone was AMAZING! And I felt well taken care of and left confident in my "diagnosis" and follow-up care orders. This is an absolutely torn review because of the first impression ... because let's be real, that's the lasting impression. So, given this, 3 stars is all I can give overall .... If the front does better they'll quickly get to 4-5 stars overall.

This post is in reference to Dr. Virginia Lay…read more The one reason why I am giving 3 stars is because this doctor has helped to deliver my first baby with no serious complications. I do appreciate that the baby is now doing fine and growing well. However, now that the baby is born, the potential postpartum complications that may come up appear to be disregarded. Referrals for a breast bump, mental health services and/or any other requests are not being taken care of in a timely fashion. I scheduled an appointment about 1 week after delivery since my left breast was swollen and I was not sure if it was possible mastitis due to my left breast having clogged milk ducts. I was asked to go to a local hospital to get checked. Then, when I managed to see her directly at her office, the appointment was done quickly with what appeared to be no regard for my anxiety or concerns regarding my health. A referral for a possible counselor in reference to mental health appeared to be refused even though the nurse on duty did try to ask on my behalf. Whenever I called in December 2018, I was always placed on hold. As of early January 2019, I have decided to move on to another doctor and will have my medical records transferred since eventually I do intend on trying to have another child. The new ob/gyn was much better and showed sincere concern for my health, especially since my elevated blood pressure could be a sign of postpartum preeclampsia.

When I arrived to The Belleville location for Riverside Medical Group, I was rudely told told to sit by the front desk staff, who were too occupied with gossiping to each other in the back than properly checking me in and gathering my information. After waiting for about an hour over my appointment time, in the waiting room where mask wearing was not enforced, I was called into a cold, dirty exam room. There were bits of exam paper on the floor and even dried blood at the foot of the exam table. If I had noticed this before I had already gowned for the examination I would have left. I was seen by the PA Elizabeth Keeter who could not seem less interested in what I had to say, did not ask or communicate at all with me what tests she was going to run, and during the examination just mechanically went through the motions, failing to tell me what she was doing before she did it. Once my visit was over, my medication was sent to a pharmacy an hour away, and when I called for them to fix it, TWICE they promised to but never did. As an added joy, the female secretaries will let the phone ring until it annoys them enough to pick up, then rudely answer as if they're doing you a favor. It took me about 10 minutes to get through each time. Additionally, the women at the front desk told me all my information would be on the patient portal, as they aggressively spoke over my questions at check-out. I logged on to the patient portal but could not find any information on what tests were run until the bill came and I was charged for testing I did not consent to. This unsanitary office with its ineffective staff is shameful. If you're looking for subpar healthcare and hours of frustration, this is the perfect place for you.

They have a decent sized parking lot and the exterior of the building is well kept. The lobby is very confusing though as the signage for which practitioners are on which floors is non existent and I was luckily able to ask an employee. Check in while quick was pretty terrible. The woman at the front appeared miserable and was complaining with another employee about all types of things. Wait time was decent and I was seen at my scheduled time which was nice. The nurse was professional and the Orthopedic Doctor was phenomenal! It's a shame though that he will be moving to a NYC office because I would for sure have seen him again. The checkout process was just as terrible as checkin as the same employee was there and didn't provide me with everything the doctor requested she do. Lastly, the interior of the building , including the lobby, hallways, offices and rooms can all use a deep cleaning or facelift with repainting of walls because it just doesn't seem clean clean. I'll be going elsewhere going forward and maybe following the Orthopedist to NYC.

Additionally, when you do have an appointment, expect to be seen 2 or 3 hours after your scheduled appointment time. I'm switching doctors. It's unfortunate because I like my doctor but the office is so poorly run it's not worth the pain and suffering. Do yourself a favor and avoid at all costs. All went well I was out in one day. I recommend to all patients who go to ANY hospital, you must ask questions. It will make your visit more comprehensible to you and your family. Know what meds you're getting, ask why is it being given, and ask about whatever you're diagnosed with. All questions are valid and help you and your team of doctors get the best care that's right for you. You have the right to refuse meds if you don't want them. It's all in your patient's bill of rights you sign upon arrival. The one thing that could have been improved on, was the communication of staff within themselves. I am lucky I'm not afraid to ask questions or question things. You must! it's your body and you should know what's being administered and why. Overall, this hospital was great. Dr's bedside manners were friendly and knowledgeable. The nurses were informative. I have to say I had a good experience considering I had to have surgery. I would definitely recomend this hospital!

THEY WILL EXPLOIT AND DIRECTLY LIE TO YOU TO TRICK YOU INTO STAYING LONGER SO THEY CAN EXTRACT THE MOST MONEY OUT OF YOU AS PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE. THEY WILL DEEM YOU "DANGEROUS" AND DETAIN YOU IN CRISIS CARE IF YOU ATTEMPT TO LEAVE. THEY ARE ALWAYS "OUT OF ROOMS" AND WILL KEEP YOU ON A GURNEY IN THE HALLWAY FOR HOWEVER LONG YOUR INSURANCE ALLOWS. Stay away from this place. If you get your arm torn off by a bear you're probably better off tying your own tourniquet than dealing with these emotionally stunted, two-faced nurses and the bigoted, malicious money-hungry doctors that work alongside them. This is longest review I will EVER write because I am truly and absolutely disgusted with my personal experience beyond simply telling you to stay far away. --- Mountainside Medical Center is the most malicious, shady hospital in North NJ. I'm visually disabled and was brought to Mountainside Medical Center on the verge of passing out by my university's EMTs. I have asthma and waited from 1-5 AM sat in a bed in the hallway with 3 other people and was told to "cut out" my labored breathing because my vitals were "fine". Needless to say, I was never given or presented asthma treatment despite disclosing it immediately. What hospital doesn't have a nebulizer mask??? When 5 AM rolled around, my condition had cleared and I had planned to leave. I had asked the staff if it was appropriate to do so, and they mentioned I would be seeing a doctor shortly and that they could not stop me from making an informed decision. Upon beginning to walk out, the same nurse immediately and loudly CALLED FOR SECURITY and coincidentally, the doctor showed up within seconds. I was repeatedly interrogated by said doctor because my UNIVERSITY'S ADDRESS, a PARTNER of this hospital, "sounded fake" and I needed to "stop lying" and "give her my real address"?????? Huh?? Upon informing the doctor I was no longer interested in treatment, she told me she would soon return with referrals to other medical centers in the area. What I was never informed about was the room she entered being labeled "CRISIS" before I was shortly and forcibly detained by 3 security members into a crisis care room until 9 AM. 5 hours of waiting in the hall, 4 hours of isolation for trying to leave AFTER BEING TOLD I HAD THE RIGHT TO. I was forced into a small room with only a bed and a window for various doctors to stare at me and had all my personal belongings confiscated from me, including & especially my phone so I couldn't call for help, document my experience, or report the doctor mistreating me. After an hour I was told and given a handheld hospital phone to contact a friend to pick me up before she arrived and outright denied entry by other staff due to it not being "crisis care visiting hours". I was later told by the (very kind) security that I was forced into crisis care because the doctor noted my HEALED self-harm scars from 3 YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS 18 that had already blended into my skin. And shocker, after finally receiving my discharge papers, I was NEVER referred. I gave a urine test and got bloodwork done with no stated results and had to wait 3 hours for the paperwork to be completed and printed because they had a "backlog". A 3-hour backlog at the crack of dawn? Really? To be COMPLETELY CLEAR once again, I was directly and maliciously tricked by the doctors into staying longer, and when I asked to leave I was told I could before security was called and I was detained against my will for 9 whole hours. I am a 5'3" black-latino man and I'm sure I don't have to disclose that my doctor was a white woman. I hope everyone who handled my case gets fired immediately and, by the way, I asked for the name of the doctor for this review specifically AND to report her to the New Jersey government and conveniently never received it! This hospital is a joke and its workers should feel ashamed of allowing any patient to be treated the way I was and directly covering their tracks to not be reported. To my "doctor", rest assured I WILL be finding your name and reporting you to the NJ Jurisdiction of the Division of Health Facilities Evaluation and Licensing at the Department of Health. I will not stop until your position is revoked and you can never profile or abuse your power against another vulnerable patient ever again. You are much better off working elsewhere where you cannot leverage what little superiority you feel you have over others. My heart goes out to those who come in for a genuine emergency, especially children & parents, because you've probably been treated much worse than I have. I encourage all patients who feel even slightly mistreated to do the same and report this hospital to the NJ government because they have no internal policing and will continue this unless they are externally shut down.
