I will start my review with the positives. There are only two: the staff, particularly the woman at…read morethe desk, was very pleasant and as helpful as they could be. And the bed was very comfortable. That's it. Now for the not-so-great aspects of our stay. Sadly, this will take a bit of time. It was the opening day of the season so we thought it might actually be the best experience. You know....rooms all freshly cleaned and checked and ready for the season. Nope. It started with check-in when credit cards could not be processed because the phone line was not working. The woman needed to write down all my credit card details so she could "keep trying." That's a little unnerving but we understood. Things happen. Then we go to our caboose (1001) and it has not been aired out - stale and beastly hot. Since no windows open, we left the door open and blasted the A/C. Then we looked at the room. Think Red Roof Inn with no remodeling since maybe 1980. Bad. But - OK - make the best of it. At least it was clean(ish). Bzzzz....bzzzzz....now what? Three wasps. Great. The desk clerk came with a swatter and a can of wasp spray. She got 1 and left the tools for us. Are we done? Nope. Next, we discovered that there was no water pressure at the bathroom sink or shower. Only a weak trickle/drip. Maintenance came pretty quickly but, after several back-and-forth trips, determined the problem could not be fixed for our stay. We had now been unpacked for a couple hours and were just about to leave for the evening. But first, we had to drag everything to a new room, 2 doors down. I guess this was actually a good thing since the 2nd caboose (1003) was marginally less shabby than the first. Marginally. After all of the issues we had, you would think we would be offered some token of compensation, some amount deducted from our bill. Nope. Not a word and, frankly, I didn't ask. We had been understanding and even cheerful throughout all the problems yet the business did not see fit to do the right thing. The biggest shame of it is that my husband, a train enthusiast, has wanted to stay at the Caboose Motel for a long time. We just never got there until we made a special point to go. Now we know and we don't need to do that ever again.

It's an awesome service they provide and a really unique trip! I would recommend Eagle Rock to anyone. I drove 8 hours from Long Island and I would still recommend this service. The price cannot be beat by any providers in NY.

Had we read a review expressing what we and others have experienced, we never would have stayed. The host and hostess are lovely genuine people who enjoy having guests in their home. The breakfast food is good, homecooked and bountiful. Lynell is a great cook and a very sweet lady. Her husband is quite the talker. The back house, where we stayed, is fabulously unique and historical - there is a lot of potential in the hosue and the rooms. But it is just odd. The front house where we had breakfast offers a warm decor at least in the common rooms (did not see any of the bedrooms in that house). Here is the reason we would never stay again and why I am writing this review. We were dropping our child off for their freshman year of college at Allegheny. An emotional time to say the least. The host was quite overbearing at all of our breakfasts, even to the point of being simply insensitive. It was difficult and uncomfortable to enjoy our breakfast with the host literally standing over us talking and making insensitive remarks about parents crying as they dropped their students off at school. As well as making similar attempts of jokes towards the students at the table - my heart went out to the young man at the table who appeared to be seeking a way to run away from the scene. We didn't find it funny nor did the other guests there - it was awkward laughter. In talking with other folks who've stayed there we found they had the same experience. We were surprised the host takes a picture of all who stay there while they're eating breakfast. Sometimes I laugh when I think of what that picture must have looked like - I can imagine a look of surprise and horror on my face when suddenly I look up at a camera flash goes off in my face. Simply put I would never stay there again.

Oftentimes, the tent campers are totally neglected and forgotten about at places that cater to RVs. Overall, we had an enjoyable stay. We found a nice, tree-covered spot with plenty of space. (However, please note that a lot of campsites here don't necessarily offer tree coverage.) Since I had two kiddos with me, we wanted to be relatively close to a bathroom. That wasn't a problem either. The bathrooms were decent. The pool was quite nice - nicer than most pools you'll find at campgrounds. The playground was a hot attraction for my niece and nephew. Plus, they even had a 9-hole mini golf course. (It's nothing extravagant or exceptional, but great for the kids.) We walked around the entire park, and this place definitely seems to be home to a lot of seasonal RVs. Most of them look like permanent summer homes. With that being said, though, the tent-campers will still feel welcomed here.
