BEST EXPERIENCE EVER!! Lamar did a wine blending experience for a work event in the greater Palm Springs area and it was an absolute blast! We were set-up in table teams and given 4 wines to create our blends. First, we tasted the wines "blind" not knowing what they were. Lamar had us all shout out what flavors we were tasting and had each table guess the varietal. Then he educated us on the wines. After tasting all 4 wines, we were given free reign to create our own blend. We had short beakers, tall beakers and an eye dropper. After each table created their blend, Lamar set up a judging table and we picked a winner. Then we got to bottle our blend in a half bottle with a cork and colored wax. It was super fun! read more

This past summer, my partner and I welcomed twin babies into our lives. And okay, we'll admit it... Maybe we have missed a shower or two? So naturally, we've been ALL about doing virtual activities from home. The Wine Militia is doing wine tasting on a whole new level. Whether its wine blending games, blind tastings or cheese and wine pairings, there is no shortage of fun (and tasty) options. In fact, I had a difficult time choosing. I ended up selecting their Wine Wars experience since I like a little friendly competition (mixed with some wine of course). What originally started as a fun way for Lamar (The Wine Militia's owner) to train his team, quickly turned into the company's most popular activity. Wine Wars is a wine trivia activity that is completely customizable, based off your group's wine preferences. Have a white wine fan in the house? Don't like overly acidic wine? No problem. The Wine Militia will source the types of wine you enjoy most or something similar to it. To fully maximize your experience, we recommend gathering a group of friends or family to play together. Since COVID hit, we don't get to see my family as often as we'd like. So I invited my dad as well as my sister and brother-in-law to join in the fun. The wine package arrived about a a week ahead of the tasting -- neatly packed up with everything you'll need including scoring sheets, a color chart to measure the age of the wine and aromatics and flavor cards to help you guess. There are several wine packages you can select, ranging from 2-4 bottles. I went with the happy medium option -- selecting the Wine Trooper Package, which included 3 full bottles of wine (1 white and 2 red). There are 3 rounds in the Wine Wars game. First, we'd taste the wine, then guess the wine and finally compete in a game of trivia. Lamar broke down the tasting in a way that made us think of what we're drinking. What flavors stand out and why? And showed us that wine tasting doesn't need to be so daunting. My partner and I are already thinking about our next virtual experience. This event at the Carlsbad flower fields was beautiful, relaxing, and the vibe was incredibly friendly. I highly recommend it; there were a good amount of wine tastings, the event hosts were incredible, and the pairings were delicious. I liked that it was a private event for those that purchased the tickets. I have to say that Lamar made it possible for us to get tickets for this event because it was completely booked, he was transparent, his communication was efficient, and he had the most wonderful customer service. My only suggestion would be for the wine tasting ticket to include time prior to the wine tasting hour to roam in the flower fields. Other than that, wonderful event! read more

My girlfriend and I went to the wine blend they hosted at the Balboa Bay Club this past weekend and it was one of our favorite date nights yet. Lamar, their advanced sommelier, was our spirit guide while teaching us the art of wine blending as we laughed and enjoyed some of that sweet (or should I say tanic) red nectar. Not only did we get to blend our own individual concoctions but our group teams were able to select our favorite to be blind taste tested by a panel of judges from the Bay Club to determine the best blend. SO MUCH FUN! We attended the Wine Tasting on the Water experience on a Duffy boat and it was amazing. When someone offers wine paired with charcuterie while cruising on a Duffy boat, you always say yes! In this case, I couldn't recommend booking with the Wine Militia more. The Sommelier was extremely knowledgable and we not only were told about the wines themselves but the people and companies behind the wines. Super cool and everything was delicious. He worked closely with my daughter to select and pair wines with her chosen theme of an "African Safari" dinner. He presented each wine and educated us about the wines. He was professional, informative and entertaining. When coronavirus interrupted plans for our annual family reunion, we decided to plan a variety of virtual events instead! We are wine-loving family and when my daughter said that Lamar was hosting virtual wine events, we wanted IN! We chose the virtual Wine Wars tasting, which includes a fast-paced, easy going wine trivia game. Lamar worked with my daughter to create a wine kit to fit our family's preference for reds. The kit included three bottles of wine, plus a tasting grid, game tools, and wine info cards. The wines featured different varieties and vintage years. Went to their wine event at the Carlsbad flower fields and had an amazing time!! The wine was very good and paired excellently with delicious food plates. The sommelier was extremely knowledgeable of the wines and had a great personality/wit as well! Made the entire experience very enjoyable. I also wanted to purchase some wine from them after the event and Lamar was extremely helpful. He even offered to meet me halfway so that I could have it in time for my event. I will definitely go to another one of their events and will continue to purchase the wines they sell because they are so good and reasonably priced. The Wine Militia has very creative ways to stay connected and have FUN during Covid-19. Lamar set up a Virtual Wine Wars & Tasting with my family in 3 different cities and we had a blast! We each received a complete, well-thought out package that included the wines, a mystery bottle, and reference sheets for tasting notes and education. In addition to Lamar leading us through the tasting process, he prepared a trivia quiz that made it a little competitive and really engaging.
