The whole family loves this pub/eatery, the staff are friendly and helpful, and will make sure that…read moreanything you ask for is delivered if at all possible. The bar and restaurant area are both light and airy with an oldy worldy kind of charm, high ceilings in the restaurant area make for a nice feel and the decor is cosy and clean, lots of wood and arty things scattered about. We arrived for lunch and were proptly seated at a table by the window, the tables are placed so that you are never sitting on top of another party as seems to be the fashion at the moment, so conversations are easy and you dont have to listen to anyone else! The menu is extensive and the really is something for everyone, as well as the daily specials which often include their rack of ribs which is awsome! both the kids and my dad went for the ribs, which arrived to gasps as always, as they stack two racks on a plate with huge crispy yet soft it the middle chips and proper homemade coleslaw, I went for the Bacon and chicken salad as Im watching what I eat, and it arrived without the dressing as I asked and was loaded with both chicken and bacon, and contained a good selection of salad leaves unlike some places that only seem to deliver iceberg! My daughter couldnt finish her second rack so they kindly wrapped it up for us to take home. The sweet selection is also very good, lots of hot and cold choices along with about 15 different ice creams flavours. With drinks (2 each for the kids) and coffee the bill came to about £20 a head (dad paid!) which I think is very reasonable. UPDATE sadly things have changed a lot here, went in January for dads 75th birthday, we where sat on a large table that was wedged against the wall so we had to move it, once seated everyone had to move down that side of you needed to leave the table, the people on the next table where so close our chairs where touching! And since we where the only two tables this was ridiculous!! Starters where nice but mine was disappointing, prawns and avocado, (not something I often go for as I can have it at home, this was a tiny portion, and not really worth the money. I had fish and chips for main, the batter on the fish was lovely, but quite a few bones in the fish which always puts me off fish, there was no real atmosphere there this time and staff few and far between, sadly jot somewhere we will be going back to in the foreseeable future as it's not what it was.

Charming pub/restaurant, lots of parking, good garden. Situated in the middle of the hampshire…read morecountryside with farmland in all directions. The beer is always good, I think it is tied to Fullers so you can get London Pride. The food is a consistently high quality and the staff are cheerful and friendly. It went through quite a few managers through 2008/09 but seems to have settled down now.

The place has been much extended over the years, particularly the main dining area at the rear, but it retains much of its old-world charm. When we arrived soon after 12.00 p.m. it was not at all busy but a sight of the menu drew us in. Our mini(ish!) schnauzer was not allowed in the dining area but was welcome in the 'saloon bar' where we could still eat comfortably. To return to the menu - it had an interesting and tempting variety of quite unusual dishes as well as some old favourites and they offered some good Sauvignon to suit Judi's taste and a nice Rioja for me. The food when it arrived after only a short wait was absolutely great so I had to have a pudding as well. About 1.00 p.m. the place got really busy thanks to a large and unbooked party of walkers who seemed to expect instant service and moaned about a 20 minute delay - obviously not food lovers just seekers after fuel! The new management team may have a few tweaks to make before their service can absorb such an influx but they showed great willingness to get it right and I hope all goes well and they continue to serve top quality food!

It feels like a family run pub with a great menu of traditional food, mostly locally sourced. Fabulous garden with views across The Downs.
