I was in White Plains and saw the sign for Whale Tea--so excited to see that it was a boba shop! The shop is cute, and they have several self-service kiosks for ordering. The two baristas were friendly. I decided to order an egg waffle and was given a choice of ice cream flavors. They made the waffle fresh, and it was warm, crunchy, and delicious--a perfect treat for the cold weather. The ice cream added a nice sweetness. Jours primarily for their Lychee Bubble Tea- so when my friend Jason M. visited The Whale Tea on Mamaroneck Ave in Downtown White Plains, I ventured also. When it comes to Bubble Tea I don't deviate much. I'm obsessed and addicted to anything Lychee- so I always make sure I get a Lychee slush or tea. But I also wanted to veer off a bit and get a second drink out of my comfort zone. Large overhead menu lists a variety of combinations, teas with chunky fruit, regular Boba Teas, milk-based drinks and a few other things. The queue can get long- but you can order from their screen (or in advance?). Service was nice and my large Lychee Bubble Tea, had the right balance of flavors and my Créme Brûlée Brown Sugar Milk Tea was good especially with a slight visual effect going on. I had just finished doing a photoshoot and my instant crave was bubble tea!!!! Looked up a few spots on Yelp and landed here. Walked into this cute little tea shop and it was so fun being able to order and customize my own drink right from the standing ordering screen. You can order from the counter as well if you prefer. It was so easy to customize my drink: sweetness level, milk type, percentage of amount of ice, toppings and all the good stuff! Paid right at the ordering stand, signed up to receive text messages about my order, took a few pics, blinked and in no time my tea was served! I do love that I could actually order a size that wasn't huge! Don't get me wrong, there's times I want the standard (large) size but it was nice to be able to order something smaller for that quick craving. Great spot in downtown White Plains! I was in downtown White Plains when I noticed that The Whale Tea had recently opened. After some quick research I found out that this was a bubble tea spot, which got me excited not only because of a new business opening downtown but one that White Plains has not seen before. I was running some errands in the area and thought it would be a good opportunity to check them out and grab some tea. TWT is a small franchise that has a few locations in the NYC Metro Area. It's not a super large spot, but quite spacious inside with a big area for ordering and a few tables and stools along the perimeter. The decor is simple but clean - it was just enough to get the aesthetic message across. I noticed a couple of ordering kiosks, but you can also order at the counter. Since it wasn't busy I decided to just order at the counter. The menu has a good selection, similar to other bubble tea spots I've been to. You have the option to customize the sweetness level of most of the teas, and I noticed some of them can be modified to non-dairy. The strawberry milk tea stood out to me the most, so I went with that. My order was ready in no time, and after a good shake I was enjoying the tea. It was quite good - the strawberry flavor was present but not overpowering, and the boba really enhanced the drink. Service was fast and friendly, and overall I had a great first experience at The Whale Tea. I'm really glad that they came to White Plains, it's great to see the food scene in the city diversifying even more. I would definitely return to explore more of their menu. read more

Found this place while walking around downtown White Plains one day. I ordered a taro bubble tea and the cashier informed me that their taro is made fresh, not from powder. It had a richer taste, for sure. I was surprised at the size of the drinks, though ($9 for a small boba tea), and felt that it was a bit overpriced. They have a punch card so that, eventually, you can get enough punches for a free drink. I've only had the taro so I can't speak to the other beverages. I really like bubble tea and found out this place was open in White Plains--I went for the first time the other day and got a Strawberry Milk Tea which was very tasty but also super sweet. I need to figure out which Bubble Tea's you can get with almost no sugar as they all tend to be very sweet. The layout inside is nice and clean and the service was very fast and efficient. They also had great options for Bubble Tea and other types of yummy Japanese style drinks so there is lots to try for sure. My absolute favorite boba place ever. Everything from the tea to the boba is just immaculate. The boba balls are so chewy and delicious always and the tea is always so fresh and flavorful. Specifically their taro boba has my heart, because they use the fresh taro opposed to the typical purple 'taro' powder most places use. Fresh always wins when it comes to flavors and my oh my that fresh taro I get at least twice a week. It's just that good. There was one by my school but it unfortunately closed, so I'm really gratful to have been able to get their tea again. I ended up getting the matcha milk tea (Which may be strong for some people if they aren't used to the way matcha tastes. The tapioca pearls (also were coated with brown sugar) weren't mushy and they weren't hard they were the right balance and gave the drink a nice sweetness. But, I'd definitely recommend getting just a plain brown sugar bubble milk tea if you want to have a good first experience. -Also make sure to shake your drink before drinking :) read more

I probably won't be back. Walked in and wasn't greeted by either one of the two people behind the counter. There was only one other customer inside during my visit, sitting waiting for their drink to be prepared. There are two self-service kiosks which seems odd since this is a small storefront. Interfacing with customers seems like a better approach but anywho! No instructions, or explanation about the drinks, appears to be available. Ordered my drink and after roughly a 5-8 minute wait it was ready. The tapioca on the bottom of the cup was super hot and the drink I ordered was meant to be cold. My husband always gets the fresh Matcha. The fresh milk teas use real ingredients so it is different than what you expect from the usual powdered bubble tea. In my opinion it's better. I believe they do offer other kinds. I will say the line or wait is long but that's because it is quite popular and the drinks are on the pricier side.
