However, for a quick midweek pint and for their quiz night in particular it was hard to beat. We have friends who now live a stones throw from the place, so I'm still in the place at least one every month or so. The best thing about The Court Oak is the really impressive beer garden. Most pub beer gardens are simply an outside space with a few tables and chairs. This is a proper garden and an original feature from when the pub was built. It might not look much from the outside - situated as it is on a weird roundabout at the back end of Harborne - but the garden is really worth checking out.

Found my 10oz steak was very good, cooked excellently as medium even though i had asked for rare. My friend enjoyed his mixed grill but did say the steak, cooked medium rare, was a bit tough. Another of our party of six had "The Real Corker", which was certainly a generous meal and you need to be hungry. Everyone else enjoyed their various meals and desserts. Decor has had a bit of an upgrade and is ok. but the mens toilets needs attention as it is smelly and floor wet (say no more). Appreciate the pub is very busy and it would take effort to keep Gents properly, however, could well put people off which is a shame. We decided a carvery was called for and Mark suddenly remembered the old Punchbowl pub in Quinton had been re-opened as a carvery. I wasn't convinced as remember the Punchbowl being a run down hole of a pub, but the cravings were getting stronger so in the finish my belly won out over anti-nostelgic feelings towards the building. I can honestly say this place has changed big time. The shabby interior has been replaced by rows of smart light wood tables and leather dining chairs, while the neutral decor adds an airiness to the eating area. There is a bar menu serving traditional pub food but I didn't really look too closely as I had my heart set on a carvery, but a quick glance told me the food is reasonably priced and looks interesting on paper. The carvery is very good, I was starving when I arrived and you can smell the meatiness from the car park! The place is a little understaffed in my opinion, we hovered near the food for at least five minutes before someone arrived from behind the bar to see what we wanted. I would have thought it was obvious we wanted a carvery as we were stood drooling not 4 feet away from the food, but it took another five minutes for her to return with someone to carve the meats for us. Anyway, once we had been served and seated I can honestly say the food was delicious. There was beef, turkey and lamb available - my fella had all three but I only wanted beef and turkey, both of which were cooked and carved to perfection. We were also given a fluffy Yorkshire pudding and small stuffing ball, the stuffing was a bit of a disappointmet and didn't have much flavour but the Yorkie was beautiful! There isn't as large a selection of veg as I'd like, but what's there is wonderfully cooked and a delight to a veggie lover like me. I had a creamy cauliflower cheese, white cabbage, peas and carrots all of which were delicious and went beautifully with each other. The potatoes were mash and roasters; the roast spuds were gorgeous, small cubes of deliciously roasted potato which squidged up a treat in the thick beefy gravy. I didn't like the mash, they'd used some sort of soured cream to mash the potatoes and I found it horribly overpowering and didn't eat more than a mouthful. My fella enjoyed it though and ate my portion! If I had to complain it would be about the lack of sauces on display; in my usual carveries there are bowls of cranberry, horseradish, apple and mint sauces but there's nothing in here. I thought afterwards I should have asked for some, but really it should have been on display for us to help ourselves. You have to go around to the bar for drinks but we didn't have anything as this was literally a flying visit for a quick meal, the back home for a cup of coffee. The bar was nicely laid out though with comfortable seating and very glossy looking, there was a good array of pumps along the bar and a nicely stocked top shelf. Disabled access isn't a problem, wide doorways and plenty of room between the table means wheelchair users can easily get inside. I noticed a high chair when I went to the very clean toilets so children are obviously welcome, in fact I'm sure I noticed a special kids menu in the pub too so the little ones are well catered for.

They were so accommodating and the customer service was excellent. They were a very friendly pub and inside it looks very posh and inviting. For 26 of us to dine, it came to about 96 pounds. We will definitely go there again. The food was very fresh and included things like mash which you dont always get at a carvery. I couldn't recommend this place enough.

Shortly after finding a table in the late morning the crowds came in. If you plan on coming with a large group I recommend calling ahead to get reservations. They were serving the breakfast/brunch menu during our seating. I opted for the bacon pancakes. The food is presented just beautifully like the perfect instagram photo. And it tastes just as good. If you are a tea drinker you must order a pot just for the cute factor. All teapots come out dressed in little tea cozys. I wonder if they sell them as they all look homemade. My only complaint is that the food came old on the cold side. Perhaps it was due to how crowded it was, but it was like the food had been sitting out for a while. Regardless it still tasted amazing. I think prices for the Plough are affordable. If you have an Independent Birmingham card you receive a discount so keep that in mind. They have a beer garden out back that must be wonderful on sunny days..if we ever get any. I really want to get back there for lunch or dinner. And maybe try a cocktail if they have any. A open plan lay-out makes The Dog one of my favourite spots to visit, especially in the summer months, where the outside seating encourages friends to meet up and share an afternoon together. As part of the 'Ember Pub & Dining' branch, the level of food in particular is always top quality, with an equally impressive and welcoming standard shared throughout the staff who work there. Despite being worth a visit, I would definitely recommend heading in over the weekend, where the atmosphere improves as the number of people increase.

It's a pretty sizeable pub, very clean and looks ideal for families. There's also a room where no children are allowed which has a pool table in it, so everyone's catered for. The bar was cheap, the barman polite and the background music unobtrusive.

It's been closed for a while but it reopened last week on the 30th May so just in time for Jubilee weekend. It offers a great selection of beers for the boys and wine for the girls and the food in delicious. You can't beat their house burger and a nice cold shandy whilst sat outside in their garden area. Popular at weekends and especially on sunny days it consists of two rooms - a medium sized lounge, where people tend to eat and a much smaller snug, that houses photos of the bowling team through the ages. As well as real ale The Bell offers regular guest bitters and lagers and they serve food - which is pretty decent and reasonably priced. They hold regular quiz nights and have started to offer acoustic and open mic nights. They are also one of the nicer pubs in Harborne open on Christmas Day and after a few pints you may be tempted to join in with an impromptu carol service! Well worth a visit.
