He then had his grandson wipe it off with a solution that didn't work. I asked George to come and look at it and he got all defensive. I ended up just leaving and taking the car somewhere else. Took my 2007 Chevy Suburban in to the Shack. It was the first time I have ever gotten mold inside this SUV and it was bad. I have been ill for the past two years and had the suburban parked outside. Guess mold was bound to happen after all that time. Took the auto to these guys and left it overnight. Went to pick it up the next day and couldn't recognize it. The mold was gone from the inside, engine bay, and the sun roof. They also cleaned the air vents and tubing. Employees were very helpful and explained everything they did and you could see that they proud of their work as well. read more

I brought in a 10-year-old car I had just purchased for interior detail and engine bay cleaning. I did a little research before I brought the car in. I had decided to go with the Wax Shack because of reviews and having known of the business for years. Regarding the detail, it was alright. They missed some things, including air vents. My wife looked through the work and realized they had not cleaned out the center console and the visors. She got out our cleaning supplies and did the job herself. We were both disappointed that those areas were missed, and even today, as I drove the car, I could see dirt and dust in the corners of the plastic trim. Regarding the engine cleaning, I was happy when I picked up the car, but when I went over to the mechanic to boast about how clean the engine was, he quickly pointed out how dirty the metal was; that was the point of the cleaning. If you were to ask me what the difference is between a $150 detail and a $280 detail, I would have hoped to say a lot! Unfortunately, I can say that. I would rather have spent the $150 for the detail and kept the rest in my wallet. Nice people and they ment well but they did not earn my return business. read more

Car detailing always seemed like a luxury to me until we bought a brand new car with light grey interior. I knew I had to protect my seats and make sure that my family (including 2 small kids) would not ruin it. So, called The Wax Shack to schedule my appointment for a scotch guard protectant. I had high hopes for this after reading the reviews. I would recommend exterior detailing only, however after my interaction with the owner I would never recommend this place to anyone. George is a child with a paper thin ego. I dropped my car off @ 9am 6/18 for interior, exterior, and paid extra to have the seats removed and cleaned under. I called later that afternoon for a status update. They said they needed to keep it overnight to run an ozone machine, ok no problem I was just going to say don't worry about it and pick it up but I had a feeling I should wait. Throughout this conversation they constantly mentioned "shit smell" and I had to reiterate multiple times it was from the adhesive from the new headliner I had just had put in. I went to pick the car up @ 9am on 6/19 and the car looked great, upon closer inspection found there was a lot of residue left over from cleaning all over the car. The rear window had black marks all over, the exterior trim was not cleaned, the windows were not fully cleaned, and multiple places in the interior were not cleaned. I walked up to George with a smile and when asked how I was jokingly said "a lot better if my car was clean, but it looks great" to which he said "Ok let's go take a look at it" and I mentioned the standard of work done is not something I would put my name to. This was apparently too much of a shock to his ego. George seemed more interested in yelling at me about how rude I was, calling my car "a literal piece of shit", telling me "I hope you have cash because I'm not accepting a check from you", and finally taking a jab at my intelligence when I miscounted the $420 payment. I have a very thick skin, so these things don't bother me personally. However it would be a disservice to not mention these things to potential customers. I just spent two hour going over everything with a microfiber and touching up what they missed. As well as reconnecting my front seat connectors in the proper order. Maybe my expectations were too high, so I would suggest anyone who chooses to take their vehicle here to lower expectations. Or, honestly at $420 for a full detail, pay a little extra and go to a detail shop that cares. Update: After further inspection there is new damage on the body. It was our first time getting a full auto detail performed in Austin. The folks at the wax shack did a tremendous job. We have a black vehicle which tends to show every imperfection, after leaving the vehicle with the workshop for about five hours the car came back looking practically brand new both inside and out. This is a family run business. The shop is simple. The hard work and dedication to providing great service is obvious. The pricing was reasonable and I feel that the final product is better than what would be achieved with a mobile service. My husband and I had our sedan and SUV detailed by this business on a referral from a friend. We had both interior and exterior detail with clay bar treatment and wax. My husband also did a headlight restoration for his 10 year old vehicle, and the interior of his car needed considerable work on the leather seats, floors, and dash. Prices are reasonable, and they did a great job on all services, including the headlight restoration. Schedule an appointment and it will typically take about half a day. They were nice enough to keep our cars on their lot overnight when we couldn't pick up and allowed after-hours pick up too. We will be repeat customers. read more

Summary: Watch out for anger issues if something goes wrong. I was getting interior detail steam / shampoo, ozone for vents (was told smell would last 4 hours) After picking it up smell was strong, trash in back right seat missed. I returned the car to clean the backseat dirt that was missed. They dumped an extremely strong cleaner in the backseat of the car where the dirt was. I later found out this was a fungicide. I got a migraine driving home. I don't say that lightly, I had to pull over. I literally couldn't get back in my car at this point, the chemicals were too strong. A friend who routinely works on cars offered to drop the car back off with them. He got sick as well from the fumes within the car. They steam cleaned the car but were unable to get the strong chemical fumes from the car. Brought the car back next day as I literally couldn't drive it without getting migraines now. The owner got upset with me when I asked about name of fungicide that was used. I had natural cleaners that works for me in cleaning everything else. He deflected saying that's the problem (hasn't bothered me in every other car I used them in) He began to curse me out as he would talk himself up in anger. Then another employee ran up to the conversation and cussed me out too. I didn't raise my voice once. A female that worked there did speak to me in a calm manner. I had to get a new car because of this as the strong odors of the fungicide never got out of my car. Things happen that are unfortunate, the reason I'm leaving this review is bc I was cussed out, and gaslighted to believe I was the problem once they realized they couldn't fix it. read more

My car was stolen and the thief seemingly lived out of it with his family for a few weeks. When I got it back it was super dirty and reeked of oil and cigarette smoke. Honestly it was to the point I had to sit on trash bags just to drive it so all the ash and dirt wouldn't transfer to my clothing. I called up The Wax Shack to see what they could do for me, and wound up getting a full detail and sanitization with an overnight ozone treatment to get the smell out. When I got my car back the next day, it was like nothing had ever happened. In fact, it was better than before it was stolen. This was over a year ago and the ozone treatment was as effective as it could be, I still don't smell even the faintest hint of cigarettes unless my car has been baking in the hot sun for days on end. I cannot recommend the Wax Shack enough. My car has been super moldy since October when we left the moonroof open during the huge storm in Austin. I had it shampooed at another place just have mold come right back. The wax shack instead did an incredibly detailed job in professional mold and mildew removal. There team spent a whole day removing mold from ever duct, there was even staring water I had no idea about under the carpet!! George did not disappoint! My car was its normal trainwreck - though this time I'd pulled the various and sundry party accoutrements out but the car still smelled and looked like it was 13 years old. My car is a teenager -- with all that entails. I just needed an interior detail and they took their time while I enjoyed the free wifi and a diet coke from their old fashioned soda machine. The spot isn't fancy but it feels like a good old down to earth business. My car came back sparkling. I mean, I think they might have actually taken the seats out. Reminder that they only take cash so make sure you bring it or can get down to the corner store on lamar to get some out. STOP, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT THE WAX SHACK... First and foremost, George is the nicest guy when you are a potential customer, but when you get your car and it looks horrible, good luck trying to convince him that the job was not done right. I spent $350+ to get my 2016 Chevy Corvette fully detailed including engine, wheel wells, carpet, wax, and even clay barred, and at the end of the day, I would have been upset to even pay $20 for this horrible job. He was arrogant, unwilling to discuss the situation, then getting upset and saying I was being a bully, NO, I'm being a dissatisfied customer. I literally had to go to my bank, talk to Wells Fargo and dispute the charges through VISA as well, took me two months to get an answer because the owner George fought hard to swindle me and told VISA the job was done to his satisfaction. I took about 10 photos of the obvious areas that were left untouched, they did not even touch the area under the hood edges and trunk area. Horrible service, horrible detailing and horrible owner. Just came back for a second detail on my old truck (which looks great). I have a black Ford F150 and black vehicles can be extra tough. These folks are very much in demand and I got in because of a cancellation. Unfortunately, that day was very stormy, dark and raining like all get out. There was a little mistake in that there was some cloudiness in the shine on the cab. When I picked up the truck it looked fantastic including the aluminum wheels which were stained with brake dust, etc. But the next day when the weather cleared I saw a little something in the black paint. I called. They said no problem. I took it back and they reworked the two bad spots and were very friendly about it. They are not the cheapest in Austin but I could not go anywhere else. I worked as a teenager in a car wash and know a lot about paint and wax jobs. These guys are significantly above the exterior waxing you get at Mister, Genie, or Finish Line and worth the additional fees. They really are better and great with older paint jobs as well as new ones. read more

Updated to Four Stars. I thought about it, and I really can't place my complaints on either Wax Shack or the Emissions business next door. I'm going to leave my review up though. In short: The Wax Shack waxed my car, and it came out very nice. For $225, it should come out nice. However, the experience was disorientating, and that really matters. See below. The long: The Wax Shack was actually recommended to me by a good friend of mine, I wish I could be posting a review telling you that I recommend them as well. Dropping off the car was easy, I drove to their spot and was greeted kindly. I filled out a small form, and asked for a sticker to be removed from my car. I'm informed of the payment methods they expect (cash or check), I handed the keys over, and drove away in a Car2Go all before 9am. Fast forward; noon comes around, no calls from the Wax Shack. I call, and no one answered. 3 O'clock, and I call again: someone answers, what a relief. They tell me that the car is ready, and I can pick it up. I ask for the total (knowing I have to stop at an ATM to get cash) and I'm told $219.00 (+/- a few dollars). Yikes. Okay, well it's going to look great right? I mean, I got the super black package which "exfoliates the paint". Still on the phone, I ask "do you have an ATM on site?", "no". Oh... So I continue: "do you know where the closest ATM is?". "No, not really". I ended up finding an ATM about a mile away, and withdrew $260 (240 for the detailing, and an extra 20 for the inspection, which The Wax Shop was able to get done for me by the business next door). I arrive, and see my beautiful car sitting pretty. But then it starts to unravel... The sticker on the back? Still there. The inspection paper work? Missing. The driver seat, mirrors, all adjusted. All of the digital displays were reset. All of my little tweaks, vanished. I pay the bill, and try to leave. But I couldn't; they couldn't find my key. I look on the ground, trying to kill time in the roaring heat, and notice another Mercedes Skelton key. I pick it up and hand it to a Wax Shack employee, they have no idea who it belongs to. I'm asked to pull the car around, they remove the sticker. I ask for my inspection papers, and was told to head to the business next door to settle up. I do, and pay the $18.50... I ask for the inspection paperwork, and I'm told the wax shack has it. I go back to the wax shack and wait for them to find it. Driving away in my freshly waxed ride was supposed to be enjoyable. And it was, until I realized that all of the settings had been reset. My seat, mirrors, and gauges felt off. Call it pedantic, but if you're paying top dollar for detailing, these are the _details_ they should get right. Little to no organization, and sadly it shows. They do a great job with the detailing, but I felt like the experience could be smoother, more organized, and orchestrated. Call your customers when the car is done. Makes notes of requests instead of remembering (or misremembering) them. Be more transparent with your costs. read more

I had been neglecting my 2015 Sierra Denali for quite a bit and decided it needed some love. Between the day to day commute and hauling 4 dogs to daycare twice a week, it was in a sad state to say the least. Took my car to get the fine scratches out so I paid the 200.00 for exterior detail. Dropped it off in the morning and the owner said that it would be 4 hours at least. Went back and it looked like they rushed the job and had it done in half the time. Come to find out that the car wasn't buffed before waxing nor coated. Dirty areas all over. The owner kept making excuses and had to take the car back a second time. After the second time, the condition of the paint was a little better but for 200.00 just for the exterior, you would expect better. I even tipped the guy working on my car 20.00 because I felt bad for making him do it over but again, the work was shoddy at best. NO q tip treatment not here. (Chocolate bars melted and ground into floor boards, seats and seatbelts where things had spilled a long time ago and maybe things were growing there like a petri dish... spare change and melted things becoming one in the console area...are you picturing this!?) Long story short they fit us in, drove us to a nearby coffee shop where we could just hang out and wait (they offer a free pick up and delivery service to the house by the way, but as they fit us in with zero notice bc of us waiting to the last minute to try to get it done- same day- they said they would do it immediately if we could bring car in to them instead) The car looks BRAND NEW on the inside. The kids actually squealed when they saw it because they had been working on it themselves for a while with resolve carpet cleaner and a vacuum. Really an end result that we NEVER could have achieved ourselves ESPECIALLY not in three hours. THANK YOU. Worth every cent. Also, our car is an old station wagon. This service is not just for the Teslas and BMWs. They treated us as if we had a top of the line auto anyway. We are taking the van in next month for the same treatment. They were done before 1pm, and I don't even recognize the car (in a good way). They polished the paint better than I could ever imagine. They cleaned the leather and engine to a point of perfection, it looks like it came out of the showroom. George let me know the types of products they used and why they use them. P for perfect! I have a 2013 black Mercedes. There were quite a few swirls in the clear coat from so many washings. The paint looks like it did coming out the showroom after George and his crew detailed my car. The rest of the car (tires, wheels, interior, leather, etc.) are just like new. I want to preface this review by saying that THE OWNER AND STAFF ARE SUPER NICE FOLKS! I researched several car detailing businesses in the Austin area, but I selected The Wax Shack because their web site indicates that they provide a professional and high-level of service. I really needed paint correction/protection and wanted to get the best treatment available. I picked the "Wax Shack Q-Tip Detail" package, which includes both exterior and interior detailing. My quote for this package was $249 to $279. The staff is really nice and easy to work with. I set up an appointment to have my car picked up, detailed, and returned to my office. Shawna told me the service would take about 5 1/2 hours. Jennifer picked up my car, and she was super friendly. About 2 hours later Jennifer called back to tell me the detail was finished, and that she was on her way back to return the car!?!? Curious since I was told it would take more than five hours to detail. Upon inspecting my car I noticed several things I was not satisfied with, including, but NOT limited to: spots of wax left on the exterior, Armor All (uv protectant) droplets on my exterior windows and trim, pools of Armor All in the glove box, streaks of Armor All intermingled with dry areas (a hit and miss job) on the dash and side panels, unvacuumed dirt between the seats and in the cargo areas, and dust on the vents and gauges (clearly no Q-Tips used). Jennifer took my car back to address those issues. George the owner contacted me to explain that he'd had a cancelation that day, so he was able to put his whole crew on my car - resulting in the quicker turn-around but also in "too many cooks in the kitchen." He said his team was addressing the issues and would return the car ASAP. He even provided a gift certificate for another service in the future. AGAIN, THE OWNER AND STAFF ARE SO NICE! Jennifer returned my car a second time. I inspected the issues noted above, paid, and was ready to move on. Unfortunately, when I was driving home from work that evening I noticed that the interior windows were very heavily streaked. I know windows are hard to clean, but professionals should NOT have a problem with this routine task. It looked like my windows were cleaned with the same rag used to apply Armor All. In addition to the streaked windows, my windows had not been rolled down to clean - so the top inch or so of the windows were dirty, finally my side-mirrors had only been cleaned in the middle - leaving the edges as dirty as they were before the detail service. I took my car back (for the third time) and talked with George about the second-round of problems. As expected, George was personable and friendly, and the staff redid the windows and mirrors within minutes. Overall I am satisfied with the state of my car (after the third visit). However, it should not have taken three times to get this job done right. For the money paid, my car should have been detailed correctly (and as advertised) the first time. It was a major hassle and inconvenience to return my car - TWICE - for things that should have been addressed during the initial appointment. I plan to use the gift certificate in a few months and I will update my review then, if warranted. read more

We have a brand new car and we are looking for a professional detail shop. All I could find is mobile detailing, which to me is nothing more than me waxing my own car in my driveway. My experience with professional retailers is they have a controlled environment and they take 1-2 days to DETAIL,your vehicle. Here in Austin, I've only found express wax jobs so far. We read the website and reviews for the Wax Shack and were very excited that finally we found a professional detail shop, not an express wax. Well, we were very wrong. I called and George said he had an indoor facility to wax the cars in. Wrong, just an aluminum shed and cover. We took a chance anyway. I told Ryan, George's son we are in no rush, too please take their time. Wrong, they were done in less than three hours on a Toyota 4Runner. We go to pick up the vehicle and there is still bug marks on the grill and windshield. The door jams still had running water marks in them. There were smudges on the windows and in several spots around the vehicle and on the bright work on the inside of the doors. The bright work on the 4Runner on the lift gate still had wax in between the letters, fully nullifying, their website motto of the Q-Tip detail. The interior was just wiped down and when I got home, I checked the carpets and they were not scotch guarded. So, I guessing all I got was a wax job in the driveway, not a professional detail job. I don't mind paying money for good work, but I do mind paying money for shoddy unprofessional, take the money and run work. I'm a very good repeat customer, if I'm treated with respect, but this job was very disrespectful. He did get a scratch out that was on the door, so that's why they get a 2, instead of a 1. But now I can't see the blue chips in the black anymore on the vehicle. If anyone knows of a professional auto detailing establishment, that will take their time and actually detail, not express wax your vehicle.....Please let me know. read more

My husband mistakenly left the sunroof of our new Pathfinder open during a big storm. Our car was just purchased in June and this was in October. The leather seats looked awful and I honestly thought they were completely ruined. There was also water leaking from the top paneling. After a few days it started to smell really musty in our car. My husband called this place and spoke to George. George explained in detail what the process for fixing our problem was. He said it's not uncommon and they always get a few of "these" calls after a big storm! He said he had availability the next day for us and would pick up our car and drop it off. George picked up the car right from our apartment complex the next day as promised, even a bit early, and was very professional. He even called me mid-day to let me know how everything was going and when the car would be done. He dropped it back off in the time he said he would. The car looked amazing! We couldn't believe the job they did. Everything looked and smelled brand new. I think it might have been even cleaner than when we drove off the lot! As several other reviewers pointed out, owning a black car is a double-edged sword. No color looks better when it's clean, but no color shows dirt, scratches, dings, and other surface imperfections more than black. I had the misfortune of accidentally spilling an entire green smoothie in the passenger seat of my black S4, creating an urgent need for a full interior detail. The Wax Shack came recommended by a few coworkers, and offers a black car package and clay bar option, so I figured I'd just get the whole shebang and get the exterior done too. This place did not disappoint. When I picked up my car, not only was the interior completely pristine (zero traces of the spill to be found), it smelled great, and the exterior was even better. I had a good amount of swirls in the paint from the previous owner, and it looks night and day from where it did before I took it in. George, the owner, walked me through the car, including what imperfections, etc. they weren't able to get out and why. There were no surprises, since there were a few issues I knew in advance a detail wouldn't get rid of. I was extremely impressed with their attention to detail, as well as their recollection of exactly what they did to my car. I almost docked them a star because it's 2015, and they inexplicably don't accept debit or credit cards. Come on, people. In this day and age, there is literally no excuse for not accepting credit cards. Carrying cash, and even more so checks, is an inconvenience. With services like Square, small businesses can easily accept credit card payments for a very reasonable fee. I'm pretty sure 99% of customers wouldn't care if you increased your rates by the 1.75% or so it would cost you to accept credit card payments. Seriously, get with the times. read more
