Situated at the corner of two busy roads, The Wagon & Horses pub is seemingly out in the middle of nowhere. Traditional for pubs on the way to somewhere, this pub services a large area including Abingdon, Cilham, Appleford, Didcot, and more.
Labled as Thai & Engligh on the side of the pub, my husband and I went here for a Sunday lunch. We had a choice of traditional carvery or fixed price Thai or English menu. Husband opted for the Carvery at £6.95 per person and I chose the 2 course Thai menu for £9.95
The Carvery was excellent. With vegtables done perfectly, meat carved nicely and fast service, my husband absolutely loved it. He said that of anything, the veggies were usually the weak point of any carvery and yet these were done perfectly.
I opted for the Thai which was lovely and very well cooked. It was a main bowl of curry with a side of rice and I opted for dessert instead of a starter. The meal was brought surprisingly fast and was very hot when it arrived. While it was obvious the lamb had not been stewed for awhile in the curry, it was nontheless lovely.
The service was the only reason we haven't given this place 5 stars. When we got there it was a bit confusing about how we needed to order but that's the only detraction. The woman at the bar was brilliant and the service was perfect with our plates cleared when we had finished without making us feel rushed at all.
This place was busy and yet was not loud and was one of the best experiences I've had locally. I would not hesitate to recommend this place again. read more
