There is some passion, equipment is great, space large on cozy. Use premium beans. Few Ethiopian options. Not sure I agree with roast profile to get best out of those beans. Definitely visit when nearby!

This was my favourite and my go-to cafe when I needed to be productive on the weekend in Berlin. Very spacious, open, bright (lots of natural light from the windows), very very close to u-Bahn. I really enjoyed trying out different food here. Good wifi although you do have to sign in with your email. Not a ton of very accessible outlet so make sure you charge your laptop and phone to the max when you come here. I was sorta forced to move to a location that I wasn't very comfortable with for an outlet (right in the middle of the cafe, I like to sit by corners or facing windows so I get undistracted while I'm reading or doing work) One time the owner of the cafe even came to chat with me on how my day was going, what book I'm reading and how I liked the food which I thought was really attentive and friendly. The servers here are very friendly as well and they speak pretty good English. The food is amazing and the coffee is even better. 10/10 would come back here if I'm ever in Berlin again.

The coffee was so good that we came in two days in a row! Hard to miss the bright "We Have Coffee" neon light in its laneway entrance, the space is well designed with friendly staffs serving cakes and vegetarian friendly food. Highly recommended!

This is where we get our coffee grounds every week. They offer whole beans from a variety of different suppliers, but their specialty is organic and fair trade, including a wide range from Kaffee Museum where the owner Stefan first started as a roaster in 2008. The shop also sells high-end coffee machines and supplies of all sorts. It's clear they are very serious about the stuff, but they don't look down their nose at you when you simply pick a small bag of beans and ask them to grind them for a commoner's french press. They always do it with a smile -- especially store manager Tahereh who will praise you for your selection or gently nudge you in the right direction if you're unsure about which of the many varieties to choose. You can have a cup of coffee in the shop as well, where there is ample seating, wifi, and a few sweets to go with your drink.

I am usually obsessed with coffee and espresso drinks, even when I'm sick. However, maybe Europe inspired me because I ordered a lemon ginger tea instead. It was exactly what the doctor had ordered. To accompany the tea, I ordered a vegan cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was excellent. It was sweet, but not too sweet. Soft on the inside, crunchy on the outside, how a cinnamon roll should be. By my second visit to Populus Coffee I was feeling better. I ordered a cappuccino with oat milk and a lemon poppy seed loaf for breakfast. It was absolutely delightful! The cappuccino was strong, smoothe and frothy. The lemon poppy seed loaf was sweet, with a hint of tart. The thin layer of frosting on top brought everything together. The decor was modern and fun. They have outdoor seating, which is great for people watching and viewing of the canal. I didn't have any trouble ordering as the staff spoke English. The coffee is really good but this place is getting more and more crowded - seemingly by the week. They recently raised prices and officially made the jump from 'good coffee for an amazing price' to 'good coffee for a price that feels just a tad too expensive.' But maybe I'm just saying that because I've been coming here on a weekly basis for years and am a bit sad to see the price increase. The staff are all extremely friendly and if you catch them during a slow time it can be easy to strike up a conversation - rare in normally unfriendly Berlin. All in all its an excellent neighborhood cafe that is great for the community.
