    Lovely interior.

Beautiful boutique coffee bar tucked away in an old industrial complex. The building is absolutely gorgeous, and has been beautifully restored with heavy doses of wood, glass, and exposed brick. The coffee itself is also terrific, with a rotating menu of coffees from around the world. A cup of filter coffee costs 3€, but for 5€ you can fill your cup as many times as you want. The pastries are very good, too. There is also a very useful work table that seats up to 6 people, with power outlets for free. The international staff is friendly and helpful, and enjoy helping customers discover great coffee.

At the risk of sounding extreme(ly cliche), I will say that this is one of my favorite coffee shops... internationally. From its invitingly open space to its phenomenal coffee, Bonanza does an amazing job at fostering a whole experience. For this reason, I recommend this place when you have enough time to enjoy it. Given that even the filter coffee is made freshly to order, you should expect a wait. We did the coffee tasting, which offers a diverse (unlimited) sample of three coffees for just under six euros. Definitely do not rush this, the coffees each have very different characters and complexities, and the baristas give you all the time you want to indulge. Their selection is likely to have something for everyone, given that there was a large range in flavor notes and acidity. We tried a few of their beautifully presented pastries, of which the cardamom croissant stands out the most. The staff is very pleasant, which shouldn't be understated given that this is Berlin. We appreciated their descriptions during the sampling. The weather certainly helped (a nice fall day), which makes the space surrounding the cafe particularly beautiful because of the foliage. Regardless of where you're coming from in Berlin, this place is worth the trip. Come here in the fall if you can, but I bet that it can pick up your day no matter the weather outside.

Best coffee in Berlin! Love this quiet coffee shop tucked away behind the road inside Bonanza's roastery. The pastries are delicious too!

This is where we get our coffee grounds every week. They offer whole beans from a variety of different suppliers, but their specialty is organic and fair trade, including a wide range from Kaffee Museum where the owner Stefan first started as a roaster in 2008. The shop also sells high-end coffee machines and supplies of all sorts. It's clear they are very serious about the stuff, but they don't look down their nose at you when you simply pick a small bag of beans and ask them to grind them for a commoner's french press. They always do it with a smile -- especially store manager Tahereh who will praise you for your selection or gently nudge you in the right direction if you're unsure about which of the many varieties to choose. You can have a cup of coffee in the shop as well, where there is ample seating, wifi, and a few sweets to go with your drink.

I am usually obsessed with coffee and espresso drinks, even when I'm sick. However, maybe Europe inspired me because I ordered a lemon ginger tea instead. It was exactly what the doctor had ordered. To accompany the tea, I ordered a vegan cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was excellent. It was sweet, but not too sweet. Soft on the inside, crunchy on the outside, how a cinnamon roll should be. By my second visit to Populus Coffee I was feeling better. I ordered a cappuccino with oat milk and a lemon poppy seed loaf for breakfast. It was absolutely delightful! The cappuccino was strong, smoothe and frothy. The lemon poppy seed loaf was sweet, with a hint of tart. The thin layer of frosting on top brought everything together. The decor was modern and fun. They have outdoor seating, which is great for people watching and viewing of the canal. I didn't have any trouble ordering as the staff spoke English. The coffee is really good but this place is getting more and more crowded - seemingly by the week. They recently raised prices and officially made the jump from 'good coffee for an amazing price' to 'good coffee for a price that feels just a tad too expensive.' But maybe I'm just saying that because I've been coming here on a weekly basis for years and am a bit sad to see the price increase. The staff are all extremely friendly and if you catch them during a slow time it can be easy to strike up a conversation - rare in normally unfriendly Berlin. All in all its an excellent neighborhood cafe that is great for the community.
