I collect old vinyl and I'll usually stop into a record store to see if they have anything from my wish list. Sean, a bearded, long-haired music aficionado asked if he could help me find anything. I opened up the list on my phone and read off the first one. He went straight to the album and proudly showed it to me. I was shocked. These albums are still on my wish list because they are impossible to find. I named the next one. He walked like a man on a mission and quickly found that one also! He knew exactly where these antique titles were as if he was digging through his own record collection! I was elated, but a little suspicious. Do they have these albums because they're so expensive no one is buying them? I flipped the album over to see the price. SIX DOLLARS! That is unheard of! Years ago used vinyl albums in decent condition were going for $12 and the prices have just gone up from there. Recently I bought a used album for $18. I listened to all the albums as soon as we got home and they sounded great. Oh, why don't we live in Boulder?!

It has been a great experience so far with items I have really struggled to sell at yard sales and would otherwise go to donation. I originally went in with books because I thought they were just doing books and vinyl, but as I strolled the store waiting for them to look over my stuff I discovered a HUGE collection of CDs, DVDs, games, puzzles, kids books, and vintage toys as well. Of my original big box o'books, they bought about 75% for $25. I brought another short stack and they bought 3 of 8 for another $3. I came back with puzzles and games and a few DVDs and they bought the whole box for $16. They pay in cash, or you can get more in store credit (for the $25 box of books I could have had $30). I'm headed back with some TV show box sets and more books and will keep showing up as I find more stuff they might want to buy. GREAT strategy for them and a really great gift to the community as well - none of the other Longmont shops will pay cash for goods, you can only get store credit if anything at all. I've spent some time browsing the shelves and am not sure how they price books. I haven't been looking to buy but am interested in a couple and wish there was some sort of sticker or tag so I didn't have to ask about each one. I personally thought the records were all easy listening but the atmosphere was cozy, if not cluttered. Even though I enjoy these shops and tried to talk to the long haired older man running it, he was extremely stand offish. The one item I tried to talk about, he said was very expensive. No effort to sell the item or even talk further about it. Leaving the store later, I said thank you but he couldn't be bothered to look up. I won't be coming back purely based on his attitude. I wish the space the best but it was extremely cluttered and selection seemed mild at best.

I've been a long time visitor at Ares thrift store. It was super snowy out and I noted there were no donations left at the door. There was also a sign that said to knock (as the doorbell is out of order) to ensure that you leave your donations with a staff member. No prob! A few knocks later a nice woman came out to retrieve my donation and offer me a receipt. And off I was to my next errand. On other occasions I've perused their aisles for nearly an hour. There is truly a lot to look at. I picked up a stellar pair of like new Levi's jeans (for only $8) and am now a huge Levi's fan. During Halloween and Christmas their offerings are unmatched. They do a stellar job of putting everything out neatly and at fair prices. They also have events from time to time, one of which I won two $5 vouchers (they are so cute and have prarie dogs on them!). Excite to make another donation soon. Three cheers for spring cleaning!
