This gated pub with a fabulous Wetherspoon'esqe priced menu spacious surroundings, pretty decor and a decent booze offering has won me over in one visit. The reason why is that I like cheap. In fact I love cheap. The Vineyard filled me with wine and food and didn't obliterate my wallet. MEGA BONUS POINTS! YAAAAYYYYY! Another great plus is the beer garden that sits on the anterior aspect of the pub. It is lovely with partial covering for die hard smokers who need their pollutant come rain or shine. Vineyard is set out as an eatery, with plenty of little booths and tables so you can munch your way through the extensive pub menu in comfort. There are several plasma screens dotted around the establishment so once the football season reopens, I am sure Premier league matches will be shown. Sunday afternoon, happy hour, great seating outside and in, sadly that's all the positives. Ordered two spiced raspberry mojitos and two regular mojitos appeared at our table. Ordered wedges and they appeared cold, raw and without the toppings. When we kindly told the staff they reacted angrily and returned with two non-alcoholic, flavourless drinks that looked and tasted like snow cones. So this place is really nice - well decorated, amazing outdoors space and good cocktail and food menu. Had a lovely chat outside with friends however the 2* is for the service received after ordering a southern fried chicken sandwich. Brought out by waitress and boy are the sweet potato fries yum however it had no sauce or cheese which was promised on the menu in it. They took the whole dish back but it took ages for them to bring it back! And with no fries! Also lettuce on the plate was gross. The waitress was very rude and didn't seem interested in the fact it had taken so long. On the plus side the cocktail we got was delicious, only £7 and was served in a teapot. Really wasn't sure what to make of this place. The name had caused me to ignore it in the past, presuming it to be some kind of upmarket wine bar. It turns out to be rather more interesting. For a start they do real ale. Nothing fancy, but decent beer. And they have a lovely courtyard just off upper street, that you have to walk through to enter the venue. The inside is quite something too, resembling an underground bar or a bar that you might find under railway arches. Some of the brickwork is real. But some of it is sneaky wallpaper. I've been to the Vineyard a few times; mostly to use the toilet. Which is quite a snobbish thing to say about a place. The Vineyard is a large pub on Upper Street. In addition to the large inside, there is a large outside seating area. It is not a bad place by any means; the service good, it is usually easy to get a seat, and the decor is pleasant if a little bland. Which is the problem with the place. The pubs on Upper Street are varying levels of exciting, and aside to see sports or during the summer there is little to reccomend The Vineyard over other places. I like the Vineyard a lot in the summer, but its a bit too empty to enjoy in the colder months. The garden outside in the summer is a great place to soak in plenty of afternoon sun, while being set away from the street and not too noisy. Its easy enough to get a table too, and a good spot to meet with a large group of people, especially on a Thursday when there is a special on the drinks. Inside, you'll find a lovely corner with a fireplace, and a contemporary bar. I've never had any food there, but looking at the tables nearby and the faces of the diners, its pretty good. There is an outdoor barbecue on Sundays in the summer, which is pretty popular. read more

Stopped in here for a delicious pint of cider in the heatwave and was surprised to notice the cavernous space inside. There is a lot of potential in The Vineyard for any kind of event, as they have a lot of airy space. I just popped in for a quiet afternoon pint, so i cannot speak for it in the evening, but we ordered some nibbles and the staff were pleasant and the service was great. I would definitely consider returning to give it an evening shot. I don't think its a place I would regulate, but I would definitely consider it for an event. read more

Mmmmmm....this place is like Jekyll and Hyde. It's lovely and quite for a nice lunch during the day, or even to work or study using their free wifi but I can imagine that at night the lack of people would make the place feel a little unwelcoming. Stopped in here for lunch today and the salads were fresh, crispy and tasty so full points there. I just wish we could have sat outside but the internet didn't stretch that far. I echo Lizzie's Jekyll and Hyde comment. Walk by The Vineyard and you'll see a great buzzy vibe in the beer garden. Looks like fun, right? Go inside and it's just an average chain pub. Looks exactly like it was plucked straight out of the Wetherspoons pub décor catalogue. But with added hints of 'function room of a hotel'. The customers are a mix of 20 somethings hanging out in the beer garden and older patrons sipping Chardonnay in the bar. (And crazy ladies in the bathroom). The food looks average and in some cases, small! I really wouldn't come here to sit in the bar because it's not special. But hand me a cider and a seat outside and I'm sold. Different horses for courses and all that. P.s They have a strict dress code, for guys no hats and no sneakers without socks. WTF? read more

Great bar with an amazing vibe! I went here for a friend's birthday party and I was pleasantly surprised. The drinks were a tad on the expensive side but a bottle of white for £14 did the trick! The music is pumping and they had some classic tunes to boogie to! Staff are friendly and there's an amazing bit outside the front with loads of tables and chairs. First thing first - the Vineyard really deserves 3.5 stars. I rarely end up here, but when I do, I'm not disappointed. The Vineyard is a nice little place on the Northern reaches of Upper Street. Its a one of the trendier places to go in the area, and draws a particular crowd because of that. The beers aren't bad by any measure, but oftentimes the clientele are more along the lines of Sex in the Cityesque women out drinking their bottles of wine for a girls night out. The food is quite good. I got the fish and chips (only £8) and it was wonderful. Along with the great taste, I got more than an ample portion. The chips exceeded my expectations (but still are not the best in the area). The Vineyard gets the a ridiculous amount of credit to its name based on its patio. I'm a man who puts a lot of importance on patios, and the Vineyard is the best in the area. In my humble opinion, the Vineyard is more of a proper-night-out kind of place. read more

Went here for only the second ever last night, I work just off Upper Street and my boyfriend and I came here to have a few drinks to celebrate my birthday before dinner. This place kind of is what it is, it has the general air of the being a place that doesn't feel it has to make much effort has they have a great location with outdoor seating and they probably have a high turnover of traffic. Drinks: I ordered a raspberry mojito and my boyfriend had a G&T - I will award points for the fact that you serve both Hendricks (with cucumber) and Fevertree Tonic which is apparently better. My cocktail however looked like a slush puppy, there was more ice than drink in it and the drink itself was overally syrupy, I ended up decanting some of the ice in to the flower boxes near the gates, I noticed when I did this that it was clear a light or lightshade had been smashed in to the flowers and nobody had bothered to clear it up. The drinks were a little on the expensive side considering they really weren't anything special and admittedly it was a Tuesday at 6pm ish but the place just felt very meh. They looked as though they had a solid food menu but considering all the other bars and pubs along Upper Street I doubt it's somewhere I will go back to. read more

Chakalaka pow! The crew and I had one core objective upon entering this restaurant, a good wholesome burger and a spot in the sun. So we were rewarded with the chakalaka burger, which excited my South African friend immeasurably! The pear cider went down a treat as we reminisced about love, life and everything in between. The food itself was filling without being spectacular, the beer garden 'suntific' but on a rainy day I'd venture elsewhere. The porch was the best thing about The Vineyard, even in December. There are heat lamps that work wonderfully (just hit the button!) and I met a few really friendly locals. Inside there was a so-so band and a lot of cozy places to plop. Decent selection of beers if you're not a fan of wine, but everyone there (and it wasn't as deserted as some reviews might have you think) all seemed to have found something delicious to sip. read more

We hired out an area in The Vineyard to host a party for our friends and family. Well what can I say, from the very beginning point of initial contact with the manager to trying to set everything up on the day, the staff were so helpful and hospitable. Our guests loved this beautifully decorated pub and we have all come away feeling very pleased and impressed. Great cocktail list and lovely front patio. After a great first impression this was rather disappointing, alas. Great venue and a kicking nineties soundtrack, but incredibly surly service and astronomical prices (£8.75 for a cider and a half pint!) means I doubt I'll be returning. Rude bouncers refusing to allow patrons to enjoy a lovely warm Friday night in November on the porch. Very cool atmosphere here. I love love the front patio with its awnings and string lighting, the patio provides a nice break from the usual London crowds. Also, inside there are some comfy seats and couches that somehow have a way of making you not want to leave. AND they have Prosecco on tap! read more

I was surprised that I actually quite liked this place having read quite a few bad reviews. I was there on a Friday night, post-work, and I didn't have to queue long at the bar which is my usual gripe with these sorts of places. There wasn't much seating as most of it was booked out, but they didn't mind us hanging around. The terrace at the front I imagine would be nice in the summer sun too. Depends what you want, but I visited on a winter's afternoon, from around 3.30 to 5.30. Yes, by the time we left it was getting pretty busy with good-humoured and non-disruptive office party types (well, it is Christmas!), but that was just fine. However, when we arrived we got our pick of seats and sat in very comfy chairs beside the fire. Background music was just that, background, and while we were there it ranged from 'Season In The Sun' by Terry Jacks to Led Zeppelin's 'Immigrant Song'. Excellent. Bar staff were genuinely friendly without being pushy. We had a bottle of Prosecco nicely presented in ice bucket with two flutes, and no one batted an eyelid when all we ordered for food was two portions of skinny chips (at only £2 each). Interior décor is a bit try-hard, but the food is reasonably priced and good quality.

Second experience was far better. The woman behind the bar was really kind and helpful and suggested a delicious burger. The place was much cleaner and smelled much better than the last time I was in! read more

Fun selection of the "sins" of G&Ts, all of which were pretty standard - but good. I enjoyed the large outdoor patio as well.
