During our day trip to Stonehaven, my friend and I had an overwhelming craving for coffee and cake. We'd passed by several cafés in the high street but, as nothing caught our fancy, we continued on. Tucked a little out of the way, in a more residential area of Stonehaven is The Villa. And it feels just like that; like somebody has turned their house in to a coffee shop. You'll be welcomed through the hallway and taken to a free table in one of the several rooms of the 'house.' - I don't think I've ever been to a café like this before, and I really enjoyed the whole experience.
The decor was minimal with a few quirky signs and fairy lights to set the mood. I really liked theses little additions, which created a lovely homely atmosphere. The baking? It's all homemade. I can only speak for the carrot cake but it was heavenly; moist and flavoursome and light with a scrumptious cream cheese frosting. The latte was lovely too.
The cherry on the cake of good coffee and cake is always good service, and The Villa didn't disappoint in this respect. We felt attended to and staff were super friendly and welcoming.
