Came in for a cutting disc for a hand-held grinder which I brought in to show them. First the guy…read morepicked a disc that "looked right" and asked if I had the "special tool" to remove the grinding wheel nut. I said how about a crescent wrench? No idea what the "special tool" he would certainly have tried to sell me would have cost. $4.99 for the disc. Got home, found that the nut is part of the wheel so no way to secure the disc which was also too big. Back to store. Same guy picks new, smaller disc and tries to sell me a special nut ($14.99) that needs a special tool ($14.99) to lock it in place. I object and ask for a washer and a 5/8 nut ($1.38) I can tighten with a wrench. Nut and washer show up quickly when they realize I am not a total fool. Quickly, that guy disappears and an older guy (owner?) gets involved and brushes off the fact that the new, smaller disc is only $2.99 (I might be wrong because by now I want out and can tell they are frustrated that I objected to being sold $30 of stuff for a $1.38 nut and washer. I did not get a price adjustment for the smaller disc either. Ok, I like going to C&H and I don't have an attitude but sometimes these guys do. I also like Ace Hardware stores. Just saying.

The first thing I love about YVH:…read more They understand shipping, and they clearly explain it! As an Alaska homebrewer it feels like we spend more time online, putting products into a shopping cart, going all the way through the checkout process only to find one of the following: 1) Shipping is $38 to Alaska for 4oz of hops 2) Alaska is not part of the United States. (nothing like seeing "FREE SHIPPING TO THE UNITED STATES" with no asterisk or disclaimer...only to find there is shipping...and it is high. Very high. Higher than Alaska is north.) 3) There is no "AK" option from the "state" drop-down menu. Which means: 4) They don't ship to Alaska, at all. The next thing I love: great prices! Some of the cheapest on the internet. The next: amazing selection. If I try really, REALLY hard a can find a hop or two YVH doesn't carry...but I don't have to try hard at all at most homebrew shops. I love buying experimental varieties and...well...experimenting! (thanks to YVH, I was brewing with Talus before it was cool/called Talus) Next: the customer service. I rarely have issues, but when I do, a real-life human helps me out and provides thoughtful feedback. Some real-life humans give you customer service in a robotic way, not here. After the staff at YVH help me out, I want to buy them a beer!

I hadn't been in there 10 seconds before I was asked, politely, buy a couple of people if there was anything that they could help me find it if I had any specific questions about what they carried. It's nice to go to a place where it feels like they care if you're present! It's basically a ma and pa liquor store with a café attached. I did not have a chance to check out any of the food that they serve, however it smelled very good and the sign above the café portion was custom-made and super cute as far as signs go. The selection here is not vast, however they had a lot of local distillery products that I have had a hard time finding another stores. They had Swede he'll moonshine in both cherry and apple flavor is as well as some honey in from the distillery in Ellensburg but I've never seen before. They only carry wine and spirits here as well as mixers and lots of other local accoutrements. They carried a number of sauces from local artisans as well as a lot of small, primarily wine related trinkets. Not the most extensive liquor store that I've seen, but certainlynot the worst and they get bonus points for carrying multiple sizes of products from local distilleries. You may spend a few more bucks then if you shop at a grocery store, but it's definitely going towards some folks who know their stuff!
