The Union Arms in Tyldesley is something of a hidden gem. Located on Castle Street, its easy to miss when driving. At the entrance you can turn left into a bar or right into a restaurant area. The method is the find a table, check the menu, then order and pay for food at the bar.
The food is mostly traditional British fayre with choices such as fish and chips, roast chicken, liver & onions, home made cheese & onion pie. The portions are generous and great value. A number of menu items are available as part of a '2 for £12' deal. There are also a range of lighter options including sandwiches and paninis. Sometimes it feels like the food takes a little while, but I don't mind that as its always very hot and tastes fresh.
I settled on 4 stars for the Union Arms, but this is really 5 stars for the food and 3 stars for the ambience/environment. The building is a little tired looking, but nonetheless appears clean and functional. I've quickly become a regular here. read more
