It's a properly traditional pub, with low ceilings, old ornaments on the walls and a great tradiitonal menu. On summers days they also open up an outside area which serves burgers, bacon rolls and the like. The food here is always exemplary and well-priced and the staff are always super friendly. There's a lovely outdoor seating area which is a spacious, chilled out place to enjoy a sunny day. It's close proximity to Monknash beach also make it an ideal pit stop after a day by the seaside. I went in about two hours ago for a pint of Butty Bach, which is brewed in the Wye Valley. It's a fantastic, strong bitter and one I always have when visiting here. The odd celebrity has been spotted within these walls and it's not at all difficult to see why. In the local area, the Plough and Harrow is truly one of the finest traditional pubs.

There's no loud music or slot machines to be found here. Instead there are open fires, delicious meaty aromas and that summery smell of spilt cider from the bar. The staff are exceptionally friendly and show a great amount of attention to detail. The food in The Plough and Harrow is delectable. Really. The chips that came with both are cooked just like regular chip shop chips, which is a major plus from us. Hungry, we drove a few hours in the hopes of savoring this deliciousness. We arrived Saturday night at 9, after a long drive, only to learn they stopped cooking at 8. A huge disappointment to say the least. Hungry and tired we wondered what to do. That's when the special happened. The bartender was so kind. Great Welsh beer and cider and plenty of warm, genuine smiles. Plus it was karaoke night and the pub was filled with wonderful, friendly (and TALENTED) locals who made us feel so welcome. One lady brought her delicious homemade cakes and brownies to share! They all sang us a beautiful Welsh folk song as a farewell. It was sad to leave. Thank you, kind people of Mawdlam! The place was busy as it was the jazz/fringe festival weekend so the clientelle was of all ages (a bit annoying having babies/kids screaming thoughout the meal) including elderly who came in through the fire door for easy access. Worth the pilgrimage if you're near by; easily reached from Tenby. We found it to be very friendly, quite busy with locals and dogs and with a fantasticly warming real fire. There's plenty of crazy stuff about the place,stuffed animals, photos and lots about the old Landlady Alice Davies who ran the place from 1961 until she was 90. A great deal of heritage in this 18th centuary pub and a tasty pint of Worthington's firewater to go with it.
