Generally people in this area know Wanstead/Snaresbrook isn't short of Indian takeaways.
It's always courteous to try somewhere new though - to discover a hidden gem, or to reinstate that the place you'd been ordering for a historical amount of time shouldn't be messed with. For me, it was the latter.
Tempted by local infosite Wansteadium (incentivised to cover this location?) I thought I'd try somewhere new last night. I should have backtracked when I ordered pilau rice and they told me they were out. Excuse me? What Indian takeaway runs out of pilau rice? Being a fan of prawns I ordered a tandoori king prawn dish and settled for plain boiled rice. The food came fairly quickly (bonus), whilst the prawns were lovely, I don't think any Indian Takeaway can justify charging £9.10 for a tandoori prawn dish where you get THREE prawns.
Don't fix what isn't broken, there are four Indian restaurant/takeaway establishments between Wanstead station and Snaresbrook and the only one that is good is the oldest one - Purbani. I was lured to this place by the fact that they have established themselves in North London and Hampstead.
Perhaps the experience there is different but needless to say I won't be returning to this one in a hurry. read more
