I graduated from the 1500 Sound Academy 2021. I had a difficult time deciding on a music production…read moreschool. I want to share my positive experience to hopefully help someone else in their search. Background - I was a music minor in college and have played guitar for more than 15 years and compose instrumental music and beats. I did not have any experience with music production, recording, or audio engineering before going into the program. It is also important to note my class began during COVID and we were forced to do the entire program virtually. CIRICULUM - The well rounded curriculum is initially what drew me to the school. In addition to learning to use Ableton and Protools efficiently; I learned how to record my instruments, mix and master my tracks, how to protect myself legally, release music, as well as marketing and branding. There was also a strong emphasis on understanding the fundamentals of music. Everyone was required to practice and learn scales, be able to communicate musically by identifying components of our beats and compositions and analyze song structures. INSTRUCTORS- I think the instructors are what make or break any education program, and the instructors at 1500 made me want to work hard, stick with the program and trust the process. A special thanks to Jared, Andy and Ray for running the program and sharing all of their expertise. All of them were there day to day and share the same passion for music as the students and would be available before, during, and after classes. I felt the individual attention tailored to my strengths and a lot of effort put forth to make sure I had the best resources that would help me learn and grow. CLASS- Our class was very diverse. Everyone had their own strengths, with different musical backgrounds, levels of experience, and different goals. We were able to enjoy a professional safe learning environment where people were able to share, be creative and authentic. Students were able to collaborate on projects inside and outside class. I expect many of us will stay connected and work on future projects together. POST GRADUATION 6 months is not very long considering that mastering any one of the subjects covered in this program is a lifetime pursuit for most. That said, that amount learned in 6 months is pretty remarkable. I can say that I got everything that I hoped to learn out of the program and much more. I am proud of my projects and music I created while at the school and have the foundation to continue to learn and grow. I am still able to reach out to the instructors or the school when I need to and I know they will take my call and help if they can. This academy will standby their students as part of the family. The academy was also able to connect me with someone to continue studying with in my focus area. Final Thoughts I was hesitant to pull the trigger because I did not know if it was a good investment, or if I would fit in at the school because I create many different genres of music. After a week or so I realized the professionals and founders at the school were trying to create inspiration and encourage us to be authentic. The level of musicianship of the founders, instructors, and speakers was beyond impressive, but it was also refreshing to hear each of these individuals talk about the importance of what they contribute to society, music and people in general. The environment created was very much a family feeling of positive creative people. It was a fun environment to be a part of. It is hard to put value on pursuing something you are passionate about. 1500 far exceed the value for me personally and helped get me on a different path. I simply could not have gotten the same experience and resources somewhere else. If you are considering this school or just came across it in a search I highly recommend having a conversation with 1500 Sound Academy. I trust they will give an honest assessment if they think the school is a good fit for you.
