This is a busy store and they are super friendly once you talk to an employee. They are responsive on their Facebook page too! Video games are pretty consistent with market (some a little higher and some a little lower). They do offer disc resurfacing at reasonable prices. The store has a wide variety of games from retro to current gen, tons of accessories, laptops, cell phones, and tablets. Overall it is definitely worth a trip to visit this store. read more

Cool spot to pickup games, tech, and media. Prices were a little high on some items, others were extremely reasonable. Some cool rare CIB games and a ton of hard to find titles. Had other great items, Collectibles, phones, Laptops, and movies... but I came for the games. Store felt a little cluttered and disorganized, but mostly because they have a ton of stuff. Staff was friendly and helpful. Found some cool items... make sure you check the Dollar Bins! I feel like I could find something new and cool anytime I went in. My go-to place for used and retro games. Selection is the best around. Prices are generally at market value (some can be overpriced, others underpriced). Friendly staff and very responsive on Instagram where they post stock updates and any deals they may be running. If I see a game I'm interested posted on Instagram, I can message them regarding the price and availability of the item and expect a prompt response the same day. I've also had a couple of Gameboy game batteries replaced here with a quick turn around. Look no further for retro games, trade ins, and used tech! read more

I was actually trying to check in here the other day when I realized that this store, while it appears on foursquare, Facebook, and elsewhere, didn't have a Yelp presence. Problem solved! Anyway, Tech Exchange is basically a buy/sell video games/electronics store. Everything they have they bought from someone just like you who didn't want the item anymore (or just needed the money!), kind of like a video game pawn shop, though they have many other things as well: game consoles, laptops, action figures, DVDs, Blu-Rays, etc. I come here on a weekly basis to try to score a few more movies for my collection (good pricing on those, $3 a piece, 2 for $5, or 5 for $10) and I keep my eyes open for new things they've gotten in. They have a good selection of games (ESPECIALLY if you're into game boy or one of the less-mainstream consoles), and pricing is pretty much what you'd expect to pay online for similar items. I've seen the store transform itself over the course of the past year, and they've really made it attractive and easy to look through. If you happen to be in the area and want a quick drink or an arcade game of The Simpsons, this place is for you. Staff are generally friendly, though aren't always quite so kind after customers depart, though (see my Cons list at the bottom of this review). That goes double for their Facebook page, which seems overly dramatic for a place business. Everyone here knows games like the backs of their hands, so you should be able to get a good answer to any of your gaming-related questions. All things considered, this is a fun place to go if you're buying, selling, or just want to be reminded of games that you used to spend hours upon hours playing with nothing to show for it. Just focus on what you're buying and less on the attitude of those doing the selling. Overall: 3.0 stars --------------- Pros: - You can find things here that your local retail places won't ever have. - The things they buy (and thus what they sell to you) are usually in great shape, so your risk of getting a defective product is low (and they're pretty reasonable about returns, too). - Staff members are knowledgable. - With a constant stream of people coming in to sell to them, they're always getting new things in. If you're local or a VCU student, you'll definitely find good items. Cons: - They compare online prices to determine their pricing, so don't expect to get things for much cheaper than you would on eBay or Amazon. - Like I said, staff members are nice to your face, though do have a tendency to talk about eccentric customers as soon as the eccentric customer leaves, within earshot of remaining customers. Kind of makes you wonder what they're saying about you after you leave. And the online drama doesn't help their case. read more

Went in to sell some Xbox 360 games and a PS2. They told us they only offer store credit. When I pointed out that their website says they offer store credit or cash, they said they only give cash for "old stuff". I would recommend that they clarify that on their website. read more

BUYER BEWARE: I bought a vintage Atari 2600 console from them on eBay. The console arrived (postmarked from Roanoke, VA) stuffed into a medium-sized USPS Priority Mail box with *zero* padding save for a couple of pieces of packing paper stuck on the top - the bottom and sides of the console were flush against the inside of the box and completely unprotected. Needless to say after going through the cross-country USPS gauntlet the console arrived DOA. Whoever handles their eBay account was completely unapologetic about it when I contacted them about the issue. They did offer a refund, but the guy I dealt with was a total jerk about it. When I asked if he'd be cool with getting a piece of vintage gear shipped to him packed like that, his response was "I'm not the kind of person to let little things bother me. Let me know if you want to return it, otherwise, please don't contact me with silly questions again. Thanks." When I told him I'd let the Atari collecting community know about his attitude, his response was "Haha, shouldn't be too big of a community. I'm sorry you are so upset, but it is what it is." I find this contempt for their customers appalling and won't be a return customer. UPDATE: So (ignoring the Tech Exchange moron's utterly stupid advice to return the thing using the same horrible packing materials they sent it in) I packed the broken console up securely using proper packing materials- lots of bubble wrap and packing peanuts, securely enclosed in a big sturdy box. You could throw that thing off a cliff and it'd be fine. Got a message from eBay today. Apparently the Tech Exchange opened a case with eBay and tried (unsuccessfully) to weasel out of giving me a refund by claiming that they received it "in different condition than how it was shipped". Nice try but no dice: I shipped it back in the exact condition I got it. News flash: ship electronics with zero padding and a box that's way too small and chances are excellent that it'll *break* before it arrives at the buyer's address. Case closed. eBay denied the Tech Exchange idiot's pathetic and *dishonest* claim and refunded my money. The Tech Exchange now has at least one less customer and another bit of bad feedback on their eBay profile. Buyer beware. read more

I purchased a refurbished iPhone XS from Walmart's 3rd party seller Tech Exchange. I've been pleased with Dell's refurbished products for over 10 years via Walmart.com, so didn't hesitate to order this iPhone advertised as Grade A. However, this phone arrived with a degraded battery which won't hold more than 80% power and loses quarter of that within 6 hours. Walmart customer service contacted Tech Exchange who authorized me to be transferred to their Handyman, which the Walmart lady did. The Handyman told me he couldn't help and I should take the phone to my nearest Walmart. What?!!! Tech Exchange know that Walmart will not repair a phone purchased from a 3rd party seller. This made the situation worse as far as my faith in this company. I had no choice but to return the phone and I have ordered one from a different seller. I have spent a couple hundred dollars at this store with no buyers remorse. The games have obviously been tested and the selection is better than the local competitors. The quality and variety of products this store offers is stellar. However, the customer service is lacking. Save for a few happy and helpful employees, the personnel has an arrogant and rude disposition towards customers. I'm about to drop $100 dollars on a few Nintendo 64 titles and the lady behind the cash register is giving me grief over misplaced stickers on the cartridge. Cami who spells her "I's" with a heart sure seems to be missing one as the last time I walked in this store she promptly and rudely yelled that they were closed. It was 7:10pm on a Saturday and the doors were open, a kind reminder of your store hours would have sufficed, CAMI. I know this comes off as petty, but I'm not spending my money on necessities of life. This is a hobby and I won't go anywhere I feel unwanted. Bits and Pixels can have my business. read more

The people here know their trade very well; As I browsed the store, I asked the people working there about a lot of different games, and they really knew their stuff. The staff was very informative and friendly, even when the store was busy, they were very calm and polite. They have a pretty big selection of old and new games, and I say that when I went in on a week they much of their stock was stored away to be displayed at Comic Con. If you live up in inner Richmond, I highly recommend giving them a try, but I won't be going up there too often because it's nearly a 45-minute drive for me. I still did enjoy browsing the store however, and would go back again if I was in the area. read more

I went to sell a Wii, PS2, and an XBox 360 and the worker only gave us 70 dollars! We asked him if he took games that didn't have the box and he replied, "Yes." We then find out he didn't take any of the games with out a box. I looked on eBay and an Xbox and they were selling them for around a hundred dollars. I know a PS2, a Wii, and a Xbox 360 don't add up to 70 dollars. He also didn't even take the controllers because he said they didn't have an adapter. I don't recommend going to this store, it's a waste of time. If u see a man with blue hair, a pony tail, glasses, and a beard, just turn around. He was also beyond rude. read more

I came in here completely on a whim after seeing some cool nerd memorabilia in the window passing by. I'm definitely glad I made the stop! With a large stock of assorted nostalgic gaming merchandise, The Tech Exchange offered friendly service and a laid-back vibe. The price-points range depending on the product, but none of the prices seemed outlandish by any means compared to the same product on a seller's website like eBay. Overall, it's a fun place with a chill vibe and a lot of cool stuff. Will definitely make another trip there. read more

I have been a customer of the tech exchange for 3 years and I have to say, I really enjoy my trips there. I enjoy retro gaming and it can be hard to find places which sell retro games, and as convenient as eBay or Amazon can be, I strongly prefer the experience of going to a store, talking to the employees and being able to see the goods I'm looking at in person. The staff is very friendly and the selection bests any other store in Richmond which sells retro games. The only caveat is prices aren't always the most fair and the same goes for trade values. I get profits need to be made, but occasionally, it does seem like I'm getting a raw deal. But, as a whole, the tech exchange is still one of my favorite places to visit if I want to check out some old school or even current games. Also, if you're looking for a computer or phone and don't want to spend copious amounts of money, the tech exchange has some good deals. read more
