As polar opposite to John S' review, I have visited the TCM clinic off and on for almost 10 years. Initially for eczema, and then for other holistic health purposes. Adina is the consummate professional, with a keen interest in skin issues and a relaxed and pleasant....would you call it a bedside manner? Sure let's say that. I believe much of the success I've met in my life, with my health is partially due to Adina's care. For sure, the herbal remedies aren't delicious, but I've always been pleased with the results. I no longer visit Adina for what was a chronic battle at one time, because I no longer have flare-ups, again, thanks to her care, attention and overall thoughtfulness. I recommend Adina Stanescu and the TCM Skin and Internal Clinic to customers at my Anarres Apothecary. I suggest persuing Traditional Chinese Medicine to get at the root of one's conditions. TCM helped me recover quickly from a lifelong kidney problem that was not treatable with Western Medicine - and the problems have not returned in more than a decade. I saw Dr. Stanescu to treat a skin infection that my child and I had struggled with for 3 months, and within 3 weeks I had recovered. I've been working with Adina for the last 9 months, and I've had a very similar experience to Tati R. and relate well to her review... I find it was accurate and very well communicated. Since I've spent thousands of dollars without any indication into the length and costs of her treatments, some recipes were causing a bigger flare than others, and I felt as if every time I wanted to know more about the treatment or her medicine it was a passive aggressive answer that made me feel unable to understand what was going on all around. My treatment ended with her charging me extra to exchange herbs (at my decision) that were causing a flare up in reaction to another supplement...even though she sometimes asks if you're taking anything knew, her questions aren't consistent and you don't see her sometimes for 3-4 weeks so if you forget and aren't asked... then it's up to you to handle the consequences... I get that, but ultimately it's NOT great business especially after spending thousands with her... if you're looking for a a natural treatment I'd give herbs another go, but with someone who maybe relates better to their patients more in offering education towards their specific illness and how they are working with you individually/specifically to treat it... and not just let it up to fate/you to decide and figure it out. Considering I wanted to stop the treatment because my only choice was now to pay extra for exchanging the herbs I just got (that i've paid $170+ for this round) she hasn't acknowledged a refund even for the untouched ingredients, which is frustrating and a waste. read more

She has nearly 2 decades of training and experience in both Canada and China, making her a trusted expert in her field. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a doctor of TCM whose practice goes beyond acupuncture. I've visited Adina at the TCM Skin & Internal Clinic on and off for the past 5 years for various health issues and have always had excellent experiences. My first experience with Adina began after Western medicine had failed me. My GP, and two different dermatologists had just about convinced me that there was nothing to be done about the painful and worsening skin condition I was living with. According to them I would simply live with it for the rest of my life. But Adina's herbal treatments, both internal and topical, began changing my skin within a few months. It cleared the condition altogether within 7 or 8 months. Since then, I've seen Adina for a few other tenacious health issues. Her herbal remedies are always designed to treat me as a whole person and are never simply a one-size-fits-all treatment for the symptoms. We brought our baby to the Adina with a very severe yeast problem all over her diaper area. The doctor had prescribed a strong antifungal but we didn't feel comfortable using drugs until we had tried something more natural. Within 2 days of using Adina's "special green cream" as we called it, her rash was 50% better and cleared up very well shortly after. Adina has been my TCM practitioner for over ten years. How lucky am I. When I got diagnosed with low platelets Western medicine had nothing to offer me. With both pills and teas which of course are sometimes awful tasting, but I am not princess enough to mind as I deeply believe in the process, she was able to increase my platelet levels. No one else and no other treatments except for what Adina prescribed has ever been able to help me increase my platelets. It took time but that is what this practice is about...it is not health care McDonald's style -- it is much deeper and intense and holistic and it also involves taking responsibility for yourself in partnership with the practitioner. Taking your pills -- drinking the teas -- paying for the depth of knowledge Adina has and believing in her and the process -- the absolute antithesis of the Western model -- is what TCM care is all about. Sad that some folks who need excessive hand holding, a quick surface fix and who are not willing or able to take responsibility for themselves -- blame others and particularly the practitioner. I had struggled with Psoriasis for 2 years. Initially starting as guttate, it came on very fast and quickly covered my entire body (apart from face, hands and feet) with small red, flaky patches. I saw many doctors, dermatologists and a naturopath over the course of 2 years with no results. I tried creams, UVA light therapy, acupuncture, allergy tests, food restrictions, therapy for stress, anxiety and depression and nothing helped. The last dermatologist recommended systemic treatment since everything else had failed, specifically Methotrexate or Soriatane. Neither of these are covered by OHIP and I didn't have health benefits. These drugs would cost $20,000 per year and I would need to take them for the rest of my life. As I considered this last option a new friend told me of someone they knew in a similar situation who had cleared his skin with Adina. I made an appointment right away and we started treatment. I was skeptical at first but the treatment was unlike anything I had done with previous naturopaths. I had to brew an intense tea loaded with herbs and barks every 3 days. I started to see results in about 4-6 weeks and I was completely clear in about 4-5 months! Adina was professional and precise throughout the process. She continually tracked my progress and made modifications to the treatment accordingly. I always felt at ease with Adina, her presence and office were always welcoming and comfortable. Although the process was a little long and regimented for me it was more than worth it. Knowing I was healing my skin from the inside out and in a natural way was everything I was looking for. Adina has really changed my life and I refer her anytime I hear of someone struggling with similar skin issues. I was treated a few years ago at The TCM Clinic for a lifelong problem I've had with eczema. Adina is a nice lady, but the treatment she came up with gave me perhaps the worst case of eczema I've ever experienced. She gave me a collection of herbs and other vegetation that I was supposed to make into a tea. It tasted absolutely horrible, and I could barely get it down. After a couple of weeks, my entire body was covered with eczema. Adina said with effective TCM treatment, skin conditions should NOT get worse before they get better. When my eczema only got worse, she told me she had misdiagnosed my type of eczema and gave me another collection of herbs. Unfortunately, my skin was so sore and uncomfortable that I had to resort to cortisone again to clear it up. I felt I had no choice, and I decided not to pursue TCM. I had such a bad experience with Adina that I don't think I would ever try TCM again -- not only for eczema, but for anything. read more

Firstly I want to say that I never write reviews but I think it's important for me to share the terrible experience I've had with Adina's Clinic. Please don't be discouraged by the size of this review! (I know I blabbered a lot but I just want to help those in the boat as myself) If you're considering going to Adina for acne, please read. COSTUMER SERVICE: What I would like to point out and what I wish she had told me from the very beginning is that during one's treatment, which could last from 2 months for mild cases of acne to 8 months for severe cases, you'll meet her very frequently. In the beginning I met her after a week, then every 2 weeks and so on. Each consultation, apart from the first one ($90), costs $60 + the herbs needed until the next consultation, which amounts to approximately $130 or more for every time you see her! The reasoning behind that being she evaluates your reaction to the herbs and changes the "recipe" accordingly. Now, although a very expensive treatment, I would be willing to pay for it to solve my acne. However, I wish she had stated clearly how much I would have to invest in this treatment. I left with the feeling that she was omitting the prices and unless I asked, she wouldn't have bothered to tell me. First red flag. During consultations, the feeling of being disregarded for as a patient kept growing. She was initially nice but whenever I asked questions about the treatment or expressed my concerns, she would answer with a condescending tone, which I didn't appreciate. In one of my last consultations there was a misunderstanding on both sides and she booked someone else in my place, which is totally understandable since it wasn't anyone's fault. Something similar had happened before and I took full responsibility for it because I can be quite forgetful at times. The first time I waited for her consultations to end so that I could be consulted. However this time she seemed angry at me for showing up. I asked what I could do about the herbs since I needed a new batch and she answer passive aggressively that is was up to me!! She, the doctor, was giving me the option of whether I wanted to continue with the treatment or not! Excuse me?? How am I supposed to know if the treatment is done?! She said "Oh it doesn't look so bad" when it was the worst my acne had been for weeks since my skin had reacted to an apple cider vinegar topical solution that she had prescribed! She never suggested booking another consultation so that I could get more herbs. She simply stated that if my acne returned (ps: it wasn't gone), I could come back to get more herbs. I left feeling very disappointed. It felt as if now that had wasted my money, she could dispose of me with no regard to my problem. I'm still upset and honestly hurt because I invested a lot time and money hoping this professional would have my best interest at heart when that was far from the reality. TREATMENT: The treatment itself did improve my skin. I noticed that my acne cleared up, not completely but significantly. The acne on my back however didn't change much. I'm still afraid that my acne will come back however since I'm not even sure whether or not I have completed the treatment. I would say if you have acne, give Chinese Medicine a try but NOT at this clinic! Also, if you have severe acne keep in mind that you'll have to invest a lot of money and that the herbs do taste horrible and become a burden to make every 3 days. If you are still willing to try it, I would recommend the treatment because it cures you from the inside instead of most western methodologies that treat acne topically. Anyways, I know how much acne can interfere on one's life (I have literally felt it on my skin, pun intended) so I wish you the best of luck treating it! :) read more
