    'The King' bagel

Finally they have a decent cafe in New Lynn - fantastic! I don't live in West Auckland, however I do pop out to see friends and (occasional) work appointments - so I was delighted to read about this new addition in Canvas magazine! Not the easiest place to find. It's on the left after the big petrol station! Parking right outside. Extremely roomy inside with lots of seating, industrial-feel with concrete floors and exposed beams. There is a caravan for the children to play in, Kohu icecream and best ugly bagels on offer. The ambience is casual, not much personality though. The staff appear pre-occupied and disconnected? I ordered 'the king' which is a traditional cream cheese, smoked salmon, red onion and caper bagel for $12.90. It was delicious however slightly over priced maybe? This is not 'Best Ugly' at City Depot Works... Long black was decent. I will comeback when they are making the Kohu Road ice cream on Saturday's, I hear!

This place is AMAZING!!! There's a caravan for the little ones, an authentic warehouse raw feeling and not to mention, awesome food! Very close to the train station. Found it through the entertainment book. The building itself was the old tannery. Really cool part was that there's windows looking into the rooms where they grind the coffee and make the ice cream. Coffee is Mt Atkinson (a west Auckland local) , ice cream is Kohu Road, bagels are by best ugly. Everything is very authentic and gourmet.

This place has always been on my to-visit list since its so close to where I live so I managed to convince my friend to have our coffee catch up out my way. I ordered the cold brew and it was served up in a cute presentation with sparking water and a giant ice ball. Once coffee was sorted, I spent some time perusing my breakfast options which was basically all bagels but I love bagels! And not only that, they are served on Best Ugly bagels! I thoroughly enjoyed both my cold brew and the pastrami bagel and I would definitely come back again but next time I might try walking so I can justify fitting in an ice cream after brunch too! On a side note: they stock Fix an Fogg peanut butter so extra bonus points!

This place is pretty special and kicked off a revamp of New Lynn a few years back so deserves some extra points for that. The coffee is awesome and the ice-cream even better - there's a menu of bagels if you feel the need for something a little more substantial and it is super kid friendly if you've got little ones in tow. The only downfall is that the lunch menu is pretty much only bagels, so if you're not fan then you'll have to stick to the sweet stuff - luckily that's not such a bad option!

Pretty darn amazing, I must say!…read more Vulcan Lane Bagels has just opened up right in the heart of the city, serving bagels with an array of toppings, Atomic coffee, cold drinks and pastries from Scratch Bakers. This place is a hole-in-the-wall, with a bench seat, room for only two people, so ideally this place was designed for on-the-go bagels! I came here for lunch yesterday, seeing as it is right across the lane from my work! It was incredibly busy when I arrived, however owner Ruben was friendly and welcoming and the other lady taking the orders was efficient. However, I could tell they were feeling the stress with so many people! After overhearing another customer telling his friends that the "chipotle beef was so delicious", I just knew I had to order it! Served with a fresh tomato and onion salsa, herbs and their homemade hot sauce, the chipotle beef bagel was absolutely melt in your mouth, to.die.for, scrumdiddlyumptious! I could have eaten another one (or two) it was that good! But watch out, it is spicy, and had me grabbing for my water bottle every few bites! I can't wait to go back and try more of their toppings. Here's a taste of what else is on offer: - Scrambled eggs, prosciutto and thyme (ideally a breakfast bagel - they open at 7am) - Pastrami with hot wholegrain mustard and smoked Swiss cheese - Avocado smash with lemon and chilli flakes - Peanut butter or nutella! Highly recommend trying out Vulcan Lane Bagels! Plus everything they serve is under $10 - absolute bonus!

I dropped by this relatively new spot on Vulcan Lane the other day, after wondering for weeks where…read moreexactly it could be! It's literally a little window, blink and you might miss it... just look for a huddle of people on a weekday - they seem to have a lot of regulars from the nearby offices! I couldn't decide if I should be annoyed or amused by the service here. The guys working are super friendly, but this means they are chit chatting away with the customers (particularly the ladies, let's be honest) while a line is building up behind them. With just the two of them working, it makes for slowww service, but verrrrry friendly and personal service. Basically, don't drop in for a quick takeaway coffee and bagel on the run, it's more like a beachside cafe on island time at a takeaway window on Vulcan Lane. The bagel was pretty good - I got some kind of riff on a normal offering in order to get melted cheese and avocado together with some chili flakes. It's not a giant NY style bagel (still haven't found a proper NY bagel here, I know I know) but it'll satisfy in the meantime. They were happy to mix and match their offerings, and their bagel/coffee special is the best deal in town (you get your coffee for $2 - whatever kind you want!) Only problem, you guessed it, the guys got chatting and my coffee was waylaid until I reminded them. Great coffee once I got it though!

Goodness Gracious is a tucked away store/cafe in Eden Terrace. Unless you work around there or…read moresomeone told you about it, you would hardly notice it. Goodness Gracious offers a menu of NY Bagels, which the store follows a similar concept at Best Ugly Bagels. To be honest, I was initially hesitant to try Goodness Gracious. I have had Ugly Bagels a couple of times and there was a lot to live up to. Their menu was quite standard with your classic sandwich fillings in a bagel but executed well. I do like the option to choose the type of bagel you want. I'm a sucker for salmon, so I chose the Classic bagel. It was a nice change since the salmon was cooked rather than raw. My dining partner chose the Wilbur bagel which was an unusual bagel filling with a spiced pulled pork. Again like Burger Burger, this was a very messy bagel to eat although tasty. We also had to try the Peanut butter and salted caramel smoothie. For $7 this was quite reasonable with the unique flavours and great flavour. Seating was very limited so we had to takeaway. This is where we realised some of the bagels you may need a fork and knife to eat it. Good place to try. Everything was tasty and quick, just not quite as good as Best Ugly Bagels.
