Although it was in some respects a rewarding experience, there was one extremely negative interaction with one of the counsellors, Chris, which continues to bother me and has overshadowed any of the positive that came from the experience. During one on the group sessions, Chris approached me and very quietly made the comment "you're just a three dressed up as a nine". The phrase is a from a pop song of the same title which refers to a person that is normally a "3" (not attractive) presenting superficially or from a distance as a "9" (attractive). It goes on to say "who do you think you are" and other similarly negative phrases. This came out of nowhere and nothing to this with career development. I did not respond at the time being in an obvious state of shock. I found the interaction incredibly demeaning and disrespectful, particularly given the context of having come for help during a very difficult time and her being a counsellor. It was recommended that I share this , regardless of the time frame, for my own well-being. Since there is a real and inherent power imbalance between counsellors and clients, I think it would be essential that counsellors conduct themselves ethically and professionally in any and all interactions. The harm caused by not doing so should not underestimated. K

At first I was a little hesitant, unsure whether I was wasting my time (let's face it, these programs can be pretty cheesy, and totally useless - I pictured childish exercises like writing down things I wanted to be when I grow up, or reviewing/updating my resume (which I could have done at home). However, my experience at Transitions was far more than just career counselling... the two facilitators Dean and Kris actually cared about our group, were passionate about personal development and seeking to understand ourselves better. They took time to build trust and share their own personal stories and struggles, and worked hard to bond our group together. On the last day believe it or not there were tears. And by the way, our group consisted of maybe 18 people, in a range of ages from 18-70. So a very diverse group! Some were students, some were moms looking to return to work, and some were people like me - looking for a change, feeling lost, and needing a place to start. The Transitions course tackled not only vocational counselling (both in a group and one-on-one) but so much more - we learned how to identify negative patterns in our lives, and identify and prioritize our own personal (and professional) values. We really had the opportunity to take a good look at ourselves and the choices we'd made. It makes sense in a holistic way to understand your past before looking ahead to the future. I would highly, highly recommend this course for anyone considering a new career, or seeking a change, or really anyone who feels a bit lost and needs some guidance. It's a super supportive atmosphere, and I think the cost is also covered by EI. (I barely found any info on this program online.. hope it still exists? And didn't become one of those rare gems that is super successful, then loses funding?? )

Despite my attempts to communicate with you, I have not received a response to my previous email for more than weeks on end, it is presumed that they will not value your services if you work with them. As they cannot handle their own workload, staffing, and have demonstrated projection of stress and emotional instability onto customers, it is clear that the staff and owner has poor emotional coping skills. As a valued employee, I believe that clear communication and accurate accounting are fundamental aspects of a healthy and productive workplace. I am disappointed that this has not been the case in my recent interactions with your company. Furthermore, I have noticed that there have been errors working with this accounting company, which suggests a lack of attention to detail and competence in basic accounting principles. The calculation for MANY lines were incorrect, for many months. To make it worse, some of the errors were so obvious that even a rough estimate should have been sufficient to avoid such errors.

We left them ample time for them to call and or e-mail us back, however, failed to communicate which is a huge thorn in my side when it comes to doing business in general. We had to move on to dealing with another company (see review).
