Finally an Honest person who takes pride in his work! It is so difficult to find someone who will do a small job and be truly interested in it! Hokan is extremely thorough and explains everything that must be done to do the job correctly. No add on surprises along the way. I had a new roof installed and two two skylights replaced. When the roof was done the interior damage to the skylight "housing " drywall and plaster was cracked , had previous water damage and new nails and screws protruding. Hokan practically rebuilt the area , correcting all the damage and making it look new. Such a fantastic job and done with a smile. It has such a joy to work with Hokan I am looking for more projects . Of course he is prompt, extremely clean. and friendly . I was actually expecting him to whistle while he worked!, I know you want to know pricing...too low if you ask me ! Don't hesitate! read more

Hokan was cool, until he wasn't. He got very rude and irate bc I didn't have the brand 'marquee', even though he already came days before and used the nice Behr brand I provided. Woke up on the wrong side of the bed I guess! I hired another painter that went over his work.. read more

Hokan is not only great at his craft, but also very friendly. Talking with him about my office project showed me how passionate he is about his craft. And to top it all off, he's very fast and efficient without sacrificing quality. I would highly recommend him for your painting needs. We'll be hiring him again to paint our home. We hired Hokan to come and repair and paint our walls and ceiling after we had some electrical work done in our family room. He responded quickly with a cost and time estimate via e-mail, and we scheduled a time for him to come out. He arrived promptly (actually, early) and quickly got to work. Not only did he finish the job faster than his original estimate, he went above and beyond on the quality of the work. He touched up our trim without us even needing to ask about it and did an excellent job of cleaning up the job site when he was finished. Hokan was excellent at communicating with us throughout the job and we look forward working with him again! In short, Hokan is fantastic and we will certainly call him again the next time we need a painter! read more

The Swedish Painter is your man! Hokan knows his craft and takes pride in making the customer happy and accommodated. He's genuine and a joy to talk to. His quotes are reasonable, he honors the quotes. He's earned our business for future projects. We hired Hokan to do two painting jobs in the interior of a two story house. He showed up on time or 15 minutes early to the dot. He was rock solid. It was kind of a complex job since we had a lot of furniture, boxes and lose items in the house, but Hokan navigated it all, recommended the right paints to get everything painted and made sure it will last. Definitely include Hokan in your quotes for your painting projects if you are looking for a good painter who doesn't just see $ signs when they see a customer. Hokan has been painting his whole life and he's definitely a honest painter who makes sure the paint job will last. read more

I am a realtor, and I needed someone to do only touch up and repair of the wall on one of my listings. Everyone I called was either too busy or wanted to do bigger job. Hokan was very nice in communication and did what he said he would do very fast! He finished the job in one day and charged very reasonable fee. I would definitely recommend him and I will be working with him again for sure for other properties!!! read more

The Swedish Painter - BEFORE - broken wall - Painters Near Me

I was optimistic finding a Swedish painter on Yelp in my neighborhood, because in Sweden professional craftsmen tend to take their work seriously. Hokan is no exception. We had a whole 3 bedroom condo painted and he did it all by himself (no hired in subcontract crew), took about 5 days to finish and that included a custom-design wall, accent wall, in total 4 different colors. He came in at a great competitive rate compared to our other (5) quotes we got from other painters on Yelp. Word of advice, don't hang around when he is working, because he's very friendly and a great guy to chat with, so you'll end up prevent him from doing his job. :) read more

Quality work, excellent pricing, dependable, and professional. He follows up and follows through. We have used Hokan for two projects and will continue to call him for any projects in the future. We appreciate Hokan! read more

Hokan was great to work with. He painted my parents kitchen and bathroom cabinets. His price was very fair, he showed up on time, cleaned up everyday, and was great to my 93 year old parents. This project was very stressful for them but Hokan worked quickly and really made a renovation project go smoothly. We will call him to paint the walls next in about a month. read more

Hokan is an awesome painter. He is meticulous about keeping everything neat and clean and he pays great attention to detail. He did almost all of the interior of our house and it looks amazing. He removed all hardware, masked trim etc... I really appreciated his recommendations regarding the brand of paint we chose. He helped us save money and we got better coverage by going with his recommendations. I had a slight challenge with finding a method of communication that worked for me at first which was a little frustrating. Don't bother with e-mail, A text message introducing yourself or a phone message would be my recommendation. Hokan does all communicating personally and he's in high demand so it may take a day or two to get ahold of him but it will be worth the wait. read more

I've hired Hokan for 3 different jobs so far and he has exceeded my expectations each time. He communicates well, shows up when agreed upon and his work product is very good. One thing I really like is that he is willing to do the smaller jobs too, like the trim work I needed done after a re-roof. There are other companies that won't look at you unless you have a $3k+ job to do. If you want a relationship with a painter that you can call upon time and time again Hokan is your man. read more

Hokan is a awesome human being. His eye for detail and quality of workmanship it topnotch. We needed our rental painted and we were under a time constraint and Hokan came in and finished our project and had no issues what so ever. He worked very clean and always cleaned up after himself. He was very pleasant to talk too and very knowledgeable about his craft and how to get the best result. Hokan thank you for the wonderful work you did and we will be using him again and again. read more

I have been looking for a good painter for years and finally found Hokan (per this site) a person who knows his trade and takes pride in his work. Hokan recently painted the interior of an old cottage for me in Laguna Beach and he did an incredible job. The walls are all wood, no drywall, so it required a tremendous amount of detail. Fortunately for me, Hokan is a perfectionist and truly is a journeyman painter. His ability to spray made the cabinets, doors and baseboards look factory painted. He is neat in his work, personable and trustworthy. Needless to say, my days of searching for a painter are over as I refer him to all my friends and family. read more

I loved working with Hokan and was sad to see him go. Everything stated in these reviews is accurate. He accommodated my schedule which was very tight. I do suggest that you allow him to recommend paint as I selected a paint that was not very desirable, and the job ended taking a longer than it should have. Listen to him and buy The paint that he said yes. He is truly a perfectionist and the job still turned out beautiful. I love this paint job. I am definitely going to use him again in a few months to do some doors and some woodwork. You will not be disappointed. He works alone and he is definitely trustworthy. I left him in my brand-new condo for four days and was never worried. I will not disappoint and his price is definitely reasonable. Just buy the paint that he recommends! read more

This post is long overdue, but we hired Hokan to paint the wrought iron fence that runs along the perimeter of our property. Would absolutely recommend his services and would use him again! read more

I've had Hokan paint several rooms in my house. Not only did he do an excellent job-- great clean lines, no mess--his price was very reasonable. Really a good guy and takes pride in his work. read more

We are very excited to meet with Hokan, his pride reflects in his attention to detail and pride of his experience.

We have hired Hokan twice to work on our home for various projects. He has painted our ceilings, fixing cracks with fiberglass treatment, as well as painting interior doors and exterior windows. He is honest with pricing and diligent about doing the best quality work possible. He is as experienced and capable of a painter as you will find. He is also extremely personable. read more

I recently hired Hokan Martensson, the Swedish Painter, to paint my apartment. On a scale of 1- 10 I would give him a 15. He is very skilled, professional and a pleasant person To have in your home. I trusted him to be in my home without my being there to supervise. He did a lot of wall resurfacing and priming before painting. My apartment looks wonderful. The cost was reasonable and included the paint. I highly recommend The Swedish Painter. Gayle Jacobson Laguna Woods. read more

Over the past year we have hired Hokan for three different painting jobs. He outdoes himself each and every time. His work ethic is impeckable and his personality is delightful. Hokan is a delight to work with. He painted every inch of a 2000 sq ft home for me in Huntington Harbor. Not only did he do a great job he came in with a very reasonable bid. This home had smoke damage throughout and he made it look new. Painted ceilings closets and cabinets as well. I would recommend him to anyone!! Liked the job so much I gave him another condo to do cabinets and doors in Huntington Beach. As a property manger and broker it is so nice to find someone you can count on! read more

So good! Hokan is professional, friendly, upfront, and does a top-notch job. Tens across the board. Very communicative and won't try to sell you on services you don't need. He is now my #1 go to professional for any painting services. read more

Hokan is skilled, honest and hardworking, & I recommend him wholeheartedly. I hired the Swedish painter to paint an entire house interior in Corona del Mar, including a tricky job with painting wood stained cabinets to white Also some of the existing paint in the house was latex improperly applied on top of oil based paint and was peeling, and Hokan was able to solve that problem and get the paint to stick properly, thank you Hokan! I don't live locally, and so I was very dependent on Hokan to be honest with his time management and billing, and I was very impressed with his hard work and all the work he did for me. Give him a try, you will not be disappointed. read more

I hired Hokan the Swedish Painter to paint my 1600 sq ft townhouse in Costa Mesa. After getting quotes from 4-5 different places he came in about in the middle. After reading his yelp reviews however, I thought I would give him a shot. He did not disappoint what so ever especially on a tight time line. My place had hideous paint up and all of the doors and several walls were painted black. Don't know what the previous owners were thinking there. Hokan was a one man show and knocked everything out with great attention to detail. He completed the job on time and within budget. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone and will go straight to him for all of my future painting needs. read more

After a specific appointment (after 5) and two text reminders/address reminders after that by us as well as tenants in a rental home taking time off from their moving and work schedule to meet with this apparently one-person company, we were all stood up. We hired Hokan for a relatively small job -- two bathrooms and a new interior door. He was professional, showed up on time, honored his quote, and the work turned out great. And, he's a really nice guy. Will definitely use again. read more

I would recommend Hokan to everyone. I had him give me an estimate on both interior and exterior work. Unlike other contractors he actually tried to talk me out of several areas to paint. He said the areas looked fine and repainting was not needed. He showed up every morning promptly at 8 and completed his work a day earlier than anticipated. He is more than deserving of the other 5 star reviews you're reading. read more

If I could give 10 stars on here, Hokan would get it. Hokan Martensson is absolutely amazing. We contracted him to paint our 1400 sq. ft home in Mission Viejo this past week and he not only beat ALL the competition by a long shot on price, he completed the job way ahead of schedule, and I have to say, he is the most meticulous, professional painter I have ever seen. He also is a gentleman and very easy to work with. The paint job he did on the interior of our home is absolutely GORGEOUS. With a background in art, I am especially picky, and Hokan went way above and beyond - not a drop out of place, perfectly straight lines... this man is not only an outstanding professional, but I would say that he is an 'old world style' MASTER PAINTER. It is nearly impossible to believe, but he does all the work himself. I would recommend him for the most discriminating of tastes... and where can you find that in Orange County - bottom dollar, high-end quality, in under time? He has a website www.theswedishpainter.com. His number is 949-887-1465 Hokan is the best (and we have contracted others as well, so we know the difference!) - seek no further for interior / exterior painting! read more

Hokan is an absolute joy to work with. Finding a quality painter is one of the hardest tasks, and he is THE BEST. A true artisan, gentleman, and master painter. As anyone who has painted knows, it is all in the preparation. Hokan spent 2 days meticulously prepping the surface (in my case, door casings that had been painted in 1950 with oil-based paint, then covered in latex that was now peeling- YIKES) before his one day of painting. He knew all the right things to do to make the new paint stick, and took his time getting things really perfect. He listens, works with the customer, and is cheerful and kind. He is absolutely worthy of your trust, so that you do not have to stay home while the work is being performed. Finally, his pricing cannot be beat. I can't imagine calling any other painter for future work. THANK YOU HOKAN!! :) read more

Highly recommend! We are pretty picky. He was on time, nice, trustworthy and meticulous AND not a ripoff! He recommended Home Depots Behr paint with a primer in it and eggshell finish for a good one coat coverage and we are very happy with the paint as I have always used Vista Paint or Dunn-Edwards which probably would have required two coats and ultimately cost more money in time. Also, I felt comfortable leaving him in my house while I ran an errand...good guy. read more

Hokan repaired some wallpaper that was falling off one wall and it looks like new. He took special care to do the job right, scraping off the old paste and cleaning up all the debris that fell on the floor. He made a special trip late in the day because he knew it was an emergency with an event the next day at my house. My husband was originally trying to repair the problem when he touched a corner of the wallpaper and made it worst. Hokan saved the day and was very reasonably priced. read more

I completely agree with all the other reviews. Hoken did an OUTSTANDING job. He is meticulous, thorough, and wonderful to work with. He cares about his work, how it looks and that you are pleased with it as well. He is on time, and careful. There was no paint on anything that shouldn't have paint on it. All in all I cannot recommend Hokan highly enough. Do yourself a huge favor, hire Hokan. read more
