A slash-and-dash guy would've just done the job and hoped for the best, but Seth did the right thing which cost HIM time. Kudos. I was surprised that the job only took a few hours but little did I know, they had either no clue what they were doing or were simply trying to just make it look good. Needless to say, it failed and within 6 months there were many areas of bubbling, peeling, chipping. I texted pictures and on March 25, Seth came over and told me that he would fix the problem areas and do it correctly. He described the process that he would use, showed me a sealer type product that should have been used and wasn't. He said that he was busy right then but would be able to take care of it in a few weeks. It is now June 4. He has since not responded to multiple calls and texts. I've been lied to and ghosted. All I can say is SHAME ON THEM!!

The crew was always on time, efficient and responsive to my requests and cleaned up well at the end of each work day. I also retained them to replace my damaged wood sidings and trims. Martin did a great job custom making wood panels for me as my residence is relatively old and no sidings matching the original ones were available in the market. They discovered things that weren't done properly and did their best to keep our costs down knowing that we were essentially paying twice to have the deck fixed. They finished in the time they promised and didn't even hesitate or push back when I asked them to address some minor details about the fence. They're professional, knowledgeable, communicative - everything you want in a contractor but usually can't find all at once. Highly recommend if you want a deck done right the first time.

OH BOY, STUCCO BOY!…read more I met with Jereme (the owner of Stucco Boy/Builder Boy) to discuss an exterior refinishing project. We've got some TEX-COTE that the prior owners added that is failing and in need of repair. To their credit, Jereme is knowledgeable about TEX-COTE and the company even has a landing page on their website describing how to fix a failing application. They offer services to repair and re-apply, and Jereme mentioned this would be an option for us, in addition to a more involved re-plastering. Jereme said he'd break out different options for us. Despite Jereme's demeanor coming off a bit slick and salesy, them being a local company with experience with TEX-COTE gave me some confidence. I received a proposal that I felt was reasonably priced. Before selecting the company for my project, I had some follow-up questions I asked the office staff via email regarding coordinating the project with other work being done-namely a re-roof project that I'd be undertaking. After a little back-and-forth, Jereme called me directly. I was able to ask my questions about coordination with the roofing company, and he put my mind at ease. He described how the roofing company would handle tear-off and paper the roof, and then Stucco Boy would come in and water blast and prep. He was pretty specific about his recommendations and that fully addressed my questions. He said that I'd be able to put them into contact with the roofer to work out the specifics and "when roofing companies hear that, they are relieved"-indicating to me that there'd be a proactive direct coordination that would help streamline the process. WONDERFUL! After receiving HOA approval for the project, I reached out to Builder Boy and said I'd like to proceed with them. I followed up with a few questions including one about timing and order of operations to coordinate with the roofing and solar to take place (roughly, at this point) in January. The responses I got from the office staff to my questions were different than what Jereme had indicated; instead of coordinating with the roofers, they said that it would be better for them to do their work after the roofers had completed. There was some back-and-forth where I tried to reconcile the differences in the office staff's answers/recommendations of doing work after everything else was done and what Jereme had indicated to me on our earlier phone call. Two days after not hearing anything back, I received a phone call from Jereme. He indicated to me that he'd heard from his team that I was "frustrated" and that I had taken an "aggressive tone" with his staff and he hoped to understand my frustration but also see if there was a path forward. He indicated that he cares about his staff; the implication he was stepping in to shield them from unfair treatment. I told him that I was confused, and asked if he'd read the emails-my hope was to ensure we were on the same page about what my issue actually was and for me to understand what about my correspondence was "aggressive." He replied he'd "skimmed" the email-so I asked him if I'd be able to read it to him--much of my confusion stemmed from what the office staff was suggesting and how it was much different than what Jereme had indicated regarding coordinating steps with the roofing company. He responded "I get it, you're a good guy" as if my primary intent in reading him the email to was somehow clear my name, and he followed up with "I'd rather not live in the past and instead just move forward." Wait, seriously?! You imply I'm mistreating your staff, you're only vaguely aware of what my issue actually is and when I attempt to talk in specific terms about either of those things you suddenly want to "move forward"? I tried to explain to Jereme the disconnect, and how the staff's recommendation wasn't what he and I had discussed earlier, so I was confused. He said "it can be done either way" and "it's up to the customer"- but kept insisting that his staff was correct in their suggestion without acknowledging it was different than what he himself earlier had suggested, and that was the source of my confusion. The whole time it felt like Jereme was trying to gaslight me, and whenever I tried to be specific about our conversation or clarify what my issue actually was, he'd deflect and say dismissively "it's up to you; just tell us when to show up and we'll be there." I was pretty floored at this point and couldn't shake the feeling that I was getting hustled by this guy. I knew that as he kept insisting he wanted to "move forward" without actually talking about the nature of the problem, it was a sign that this wasn't the kind of company, and Jereme the kind of person, I could trust. So I calmly told him that it was clear to me it wouldn't be a good fit, he said "OK," and that was the extent of my experience with Builder Boy. I guess if you have a high pressure washer nozzle, you can do this yourself. But something about someone coming every month with their mobile, custom-fitted, brand-wrapped vehicle that makes you feel that they can do a better job at $8.75 a can per month. There's also a faint citrus scent that they put into the water as a finisher. They give you a reminder call the day before, but Villa Park is always the 4th Fri of the month.

I scheduled Clean A Can to clean our trash bins on a Saturday. They sent me the invoice, and I paid it immediately. They told me they would likely be in our area early and usually start around 7:00 a.m. The cleaning itself wasn't the only reason I booked them. My kids had seen trash bin cleaning trucks on TV and were so excited to finally see one in person. We spent the morning waiting for the truck to arrive, and they kept asking when it would get here. It never did. There was no phone call, no text, and no email letting us know they weren't coming. I tried calling, but their office was closed on Saturdays, so there was no way to reach anyone. I completely understand that schedules change and unexpected issues come up, but a complete no-show with zero communication is extremely unprofessional. It's now Tuesday, and I still haven't heard a single word from the company. No explanation, no apology, no attempt to reschedule, and no refund. From my perspective, they took my payment and disappeared. The trash bins still needed to be cleaned, but what disappointed me most was having to explain to my excited kids why the truck they had been looking forward to never showed up. If communication and reliability matter to you, my experience with Clean A Can was very disappointing.

They did such a good job that we decided to have his team to do the interior of the house. It was here that Fabio's professionalism really showed. During the application of the first coat I noticed that the paint did not match the sample from the manufacturer. Fabio came out to look at the issue and contacted the paint manufacturer's sales representative to come and see. The next morning the rep saw that there was a discrepancy with the paint color and offered other samples. Once the new samples arrived the decision was made for the new color. I initially contacted BuiltPro to see about painting my rusted wrought iron guard on the balcony. I spoke with Tim for 10 minutes or so, and he spoke in detail to me about the rust and what to expect in refinishing a rusty wrought iron guardrail. He told me to make sure of certain things if I was to contract with another painter, but never tried to pressure me to use him or contract with his company. Ultimately, I decided to get the entire exterior of my home painted (including the guard rail) and I started getting quotes. I contacted 4 or 5 companies including Tim and Builtpro. Long story short, Tim just asked me to take pictures of the house all around and was able to provide a super DETAILED and professional quote online detailing what would be done in each picture I sent, versus the other painting contractors telling me that they need to meet and see the house in person which is always an inconvenience and takes a lot of time (I had 2 others actually come out). Tim's quote was literally 25% cheaper than the other 2 or 3 quotes I got, and due to his professionalism and the detailed quote, I decided to go with BuiltPro Painting. The workers came ON TIME (even early) on Monday and every day, and were very clean, polite and professional. Edgar, who was the lead, spoke very good English and it was easy to communicate with him. He addressed all the issues I raised, they fixed all the stucco holes and cracks (not just patch over it - they broke the stucco open and fixed the inside instead of just applying a 'bandaid'), they cleaned and re-caulked all my patio doors, and overall did an excellent job. Edgar and the three other workers Alexis, Adrian, and Louis were all very detailed and hard working and I am very pleased with the final result. They were clean and moved back all the sheds, and took down a satellite dish on the wall that we no longer use. They finished the entire job in 3 days. After 25 years, it was finally time to repaint the exterior of my home. After selecting a new color…read morescheme and receiving HOA approval, I posted on social media looking for recommendations. I immediately received responses from more than 20 individuals and companies, but one stood out right away -- EM Painting Services. Owner Emilio Martinez responded promptly with his business card and contractor's license number. I contacted him for an estimate, and he was able to stop by the very same day. He thoroughly inspected the property, including the stucco and fascia boards, and took the time to explain every step of the process and the expected timeframe, while patiently answering all of my questions. The following day, I received a professionally prepared estimate that I felt was very fair, especially considering it included premium paint products and HOA-specified colors. Anyone who has priced paint lately knows that quality exterior paint can easily exceed $80 per gallon. Once I approved the estimate and sent the deposit, Emilio scheduled the project for the following week. The process began with power washing the home and surrounding decorative walls. From there, his crew carefully prepped the property by taping off windows, patios, sidewalks, and the driveway. They also removed old, unused cables, nails, and hardware left behind from previous satellite, cable, and phone installations. One challenge was the overgrown landscaping around parts of the property. Emilio suggested bringing in Clemente, who owns a professional landscaping business, to assess the situation. Clemente arrived that same day and provided an excellent estimate considering the amount of trimming and hauling involved. His crew completed the work the next morning, and within just a couple of hours, the property already looked dramatically improved. It was a great experience, and the results were fantastic. Brysen Wells and his crew get 5-PLUS stars for: Communication - All aspects of the job were set out in writing ahead of time. Brysen also told us in advance what would happen at each phase, and if anything changed, he notified us right away. We didn't have to wonder. He visited the site every morning, to review progress with us and make sure his guys were clear on the objectives for the day. He called us if any questions came up, and was always available by phone or text if we needed to contact him. Expertise - we benefited from Brysen's extensive experience. Not only did he recommend certain products or finishes, he explained why. He also answered our questions regarding what would look good in terms of potential color combinations, accent colors, etc. Protection of floors, furniture, mirrors, window coverings - they used protective paper and/or plastic to provide everything you could hope for in terms of protecting the things that are at risk in any painting project. Quality of materials and workmanship - no cheapie paints; it was all Sherwin-Williams high quality material. The painters were highly skilled and organized; we could tell they'd been doing this for quite some time. Attention to detail - this being a 29-year old home, the usual assortment of wall dings and defects were present, and they were patched and/or textured as needed. He is very friendly, and we felt very comfortable with him. There were no worries about he and his crew having access to our house while we were away. This was the first time we'd hired a painter, so we didn't have much to reference as far as pricing goes. While we feel we probably could have saved a few dollars with another company, we were more than happy with the results. Replacing the baseboards in the entire house was quite a project, and they did an amazing job with them. The detail on the paint/trim is just as you'd expect from a professional painter. They re-textured the walls after removing some crown molding. Flawless execution. You'd never know it was there before. He estimated 3 weeks for our 2,000 square foot home, and he delivered...finishing 1 day before that. His crew did a good job cleaning up after themselves. The house had not been painted since before we bought it 10 years prior, and the paint it had on it when we bought was already not great.we had a ton of dry rot, sections poorly filled with bondo by the prior owner, and old termite damage that had been filled with bondo. We did our due diligence and got several quotes. The painting quote itself was in line with most of the quotes we got, not the cheapest, but definitely not the most expensive. However a few things really stood out to me. First, All of the other quotes seemed to not actually include the cost of any of the fascia boards being replaced. 1 quote wouldn't touch them, 2 others said they would but on the actual quotes it just said "repair and fill with bondo". Mark was the only one who was straight forward. He said " look, idk what it's gonna be exactly and we won't know till we power wash, but in my experience based on what I'm seeing, you should budget an extra X amount for just wood replacement." When I called and asked the other companies I got quotes from that would repair paint they were weirdly cagey on this. In the end, we did infact need more wood replaced than what was originally planned for but the final product was well worth it. Which takes me to the other point. When it came time to finalize exactly what pieces needed to come down and the extra cost of the unplanned rotted wood, he gave us options. Options that included places we could forgoe a change in one area to balance the cost of the wood replacement in another. He didn't try to sell us on anything unnecessary, or weirdly extravagant either. He gave recommended paint colors based on what he painted his own house and gave advice on how to best pick the colors we wanted. Once we got into the project his team took over and were a pleasure to work with. They were hyper responsive to texts and calls and questions, and fixed things or helped adjust stuff as needed. For example we wanted a very specific color for the front door (Tardis Blue) and they got it custom matched for us. A few small places where I noticed something that needed a quick adjustment that I called or texted them for was fixed the next time I looked. They moved all of our outdoor furniture, grills, etc and put everything back exactly as it was when they started. They didn't leave any trash or mess as is often the case with multi day home reno projects. In all, the project took 2 days longer than originally anticipated but we had more work than anticipated. All in all, the experience was good enough for us that we ended up hiring them to do some painting of our interior doors that we just had replaced, and we'll likely keep them in mind the next time we need any painting.

They sprayed and rolled all the stucco walls, and used a brush around the window frames to ensure a clean cut line between the frames and the stucco. Masking was very accurate and clean around window panes and light fixtures. Some of the walls required 3 coats which they did on their own. Stucco repair and prep was done carefully, and matched the existing stucco texture. All repaired stucco was primered 2 or 3 coats. Wood sanding and repair were very thorough. They removed a lot of old paint build up that was bubbling on window frames. Grateful they didn't just spray over it. I'm very happy with the quality of their work and the respectfulness of their workers. Manny was always available to talk to me if I had questions or concerns. And he always asked "How do you like it? Everything ok?" Manny and his crew really want to do a good high quality job. I definitely plan to hire them again in the future.
