Let me start by saying beauty is pain. Or is it pain is beauty?! Whichever way you go, the price of beauty is not always painless! Feeling like you need to clean up the bikini line? Or just tired of shaving? Sugaring is the way to go. I've never tried waxing so I cannot fairly compare the 2. However my girlfriend who referred me to Melissa has tried both and says that sugaring is way better. So let's start off by prefacing my review with the first time hurt like a bishhh! But I was expecting it. Although it hurt like hell, the RESULTS! The RESULTS speak for itself. It's worth it in my opinion and no pesky red bumps like with shaving. And Melissa is great! I also recall being told to take my time to dress back on only to be caught mid dressed without even a courtesy knock. The place is alright and finding the suite was a mission. The lady was responsive. But during the sugaring process wasn't a fan being she's rough and too fast. I'm sensitive and she did offer if need a break due to the pain level can pause but when continuing she didn't give me a heads up as in no communication whatsoever. Not a gentle at all and the aftercare she didn't give me advice or anything. She didn't cleanup the stickiness from sugaring nor sanitize the finished sugaring as part of esthecian. I don't usually review, however I felt the need to help/warn others. When I first got to the salon, I was waiting outside. When the lady opened the door, she was on a personal phone call. Which I found to be rude and unprofessional. Setting that aside, when I walked into the room, she apologized for the mess. There was sugar drops on the floor and the place wasn't really clean. This is unacceptable during a pandemic. I also noticed a small bottle of red wine on top of her personal belongings. Just the overall environment was not well put together. This is all something I wouldn't have reviewed as we are all struggling to make ends meet during this time. The biggest problem I had with this day was my actual experience of being sugared. It's been a while since I have been able to get this treatment done due to the pandemic. But what I experienced was NOT normal. The entire process was Soooooooo painful! When she was applying the sugar she pulled on my skin so hard that I thought it was going to tear open. Sounds dramatic but that is the level of pain from just APPLYING, forget about the ripping it off part. Also, when she applied the sugar it wasn't just to the hair parts, it was all over ! All over I mean on top of the most sensitive area of the women's anatomy down there. Girls you know what part I'm taking about that starts with a C.... it was not just applied to the lips and outer area ! I am home, still sticky, so swollen my lips completely cover my goodies..... walking was painful.... If I could share pictures I would, but just know that I know what sugaring feels like... that was NOT it. read more

This was my first time of sugaring so I did not know what to expect but I think I really like it. It pains less that waxing for sure and the lady who does it knows how to do it right way. She seems experienced. I deducting 1star as they don't have a reminder service so it's easy to miss appointments and even when I had an appointment I had to wait for 10-15 mins outside the salon as there was another client at that time. So I guess there are two aspects of customer service which needs to be improved but otherwise worth it. I was used to hard wax so I figured I'd take the chance on sugar waxing but all the places in irvine were so expensive! I found the sugaring parlor and have not regretted my decision since. Can't say enough good things about the sugaring parlor! Melissa is such a sweetheart and made the whole experience comfortable and quick. She is so easy to talk with and just an amazing woman all around. I always enjoy chatting with her, it makes time go by super fast! I love her! She's super sweet and funny and does a really good job. The first time is really painful but the next time is soooo much easier. Very disappointed, I went there for a Brazilian, I had a groupon, I am 34 weeks pregnant. First of all, it was extremely painful (I have done sugaring elsewhere and it wasn't painful at all, since I moved I was looking for a closer location). I know it could feel more painful because of pregnancy hormones but she was not gentle at all. And when I got home I took a closer look with a mirror since I can't see much down there with my belly, and I still have a lot of hair, it doesn't look clean at all. Since I came with a Groupon she probably didn't care, it's a messy job, I won't return that's for sure and I won't recommend her to anyone. Wonderful experience! This was my first time sugaring and I highly recommend it. It hurts less than waxing with the same results.

Facility and privacy: This a little unit in a salon with a bunch of independent beauty service providers. Parking is not a problem. Waiting is limited to one chair. The doors and walls of The Sugaring Parlor unit are pretty opaque. Melissa will slip out if you need to undress, but there's only the one door. The shared salon ladies' room had multiple stalls and looked fairly clean, but it smelled bad. (Which I neglected to mention to Melissa at the time.) Booking: Services are by appointment only. I booked weeks ahead via email, which Melissa confirmed. When I arrived at the appointed time, I found she was not expecting me as the appointment was apparently never recorded in her book. However, she did honor the email and work on me as soon as the other client was done. Sugaring: Melissa was thorough and responded positively if I wanted her to go back over an area. However, I felt more pain and was left with more sugar residue than is my preference. She did not have hot towels for cleaning up, which made it more difficult. During the procedure, she chatted pleasantly at times but was also fine being quiet. Prices: I don't recall exactly what I paid, but the prices are on her website and are comparable to others in central-south OC. read more

I have been getting brazilian waxes for years but decided to try sugaring since I've heard that its better for your skin as it pulls less at your skin than waxing. In terms of pain, I would say both are pretty mild but I didn't find that one was more painful than the other. However, in terms of results, sugaring definitely lasted longer in between maintenance appointments and the rate of growth was way slower in comparison to waxing. But Melissa is a seasoned pro, and she paid attention to detail because I do get in grown hairs a lot.
