We emailed while we were en route back to London, and we also followed up with a phone call when we arrived. The person working the front desk said they had not received an email and we asked if we needed to follow up with a second email reiterating that we would not be able to use our reservation and why. We were assured that no second email would be needed, and that Monday the manager would assess the situation and let us know if they could do anything to help accommodate our situation. On Monday, we received a communication via email that they would still charge us for the room. We called to follow up to see if could be some type of amicable solution could be achieved and spoke with Sarah, the manager. She repeatedly stated that her terms and conditions needed to be abided by. She was rather short and continuously interrupted instead of listening. It appears that taking money for a room that isn't used, no matter the circumstances, is more important to this establishment than customer service or compassion. There are other places to stay in the area that offer much better customer service. This was the worst experience that we had in England and every other facility where we stayed, up to this point, had been lovely and gracious. It was a shock to see how coldhearted and unfeeling they approached this situation. This experience further compounded something that was frightening and harrowing and unexpected.

It looked pretty but my food and my companion's were quite bland. It was like an experiment of textures since all the food was cooked well - the meat was medium rare and the lamb had a good sear, the souffle was fluffy, but there was very little flavor. A pinch of salt would have done wonders. Since the entrees and appetizer were a bit lacking, I ended up ordering dessert, which was the best part of the meal. Caramel corn topped a rich panna cotta, served with two mini macarons. Each component of the dessert was spot on and delightful. Service: 4/5 Really nice and attentive Ambiance: 4/5 Classy. Inside are little rooms and snugs that you could make your own with group of friends, and the staff are always really friendly. It does get quite busy on a Saturday night, but they put lots of staff behind the bar meaning your wait isn't too long. Local beers are always changing on tap, and they have a great selection of ciders too. Delicious dinner (tasting menu) and frankly the best I have had in Cheltenham…read more The tasting menu cost £60, with an added £38 per person for wine pairings. This is what me and my hubs had. The dinner started with a bread course - 3 types of bread. Butter was good, just the right amount of saltiness. Also served with taramasalata, which tasted like a cross between roe and smoked salmon. The sourdough was my fave of the breads. Moving on to the amuse bouche - a really large serving! This was trout sashimi and was super delicious. I think it also had beets and another vegetable served with it. The next 2 courses were also seafood - halibut and lobster. The halibut had this really good cucumber sorbet served with it - maybe just a tad to much for the serving, but it was tasty either way. The lobster - I forgot to take a picture it was so good! The final main course was lamb. Normally, I don't really like lamb all that much, but I really liked this dish. The lamb wasn't too gamey in either the steak style or brisket style lamb. There was also sweetbreads served on the side which was perfectly fried. On to the desserts - there was a cheesecake, a chocolate dish, and petit fours to finish. These were all good, but I honestly would have preferred one more savory dish and one less sweet one. Wine pairings were on point for all the dishes. Standout for me was the British wine that was served with the trout I think? The pours were all very generous as well. Overall, great service, great food, great little restaurant. Highly recommended.

Inside it's small and cosy as per it's former status as a barn, with just enough tables to ensure an atmosphere. Sadly, the food never lived up to the promise offered by the setting and was at best, distinctly average. I'm told it changed hands sometime mid-2011 and the excellent reputation we were advised of was due to it's former owners. The main reason for low rating is not solely the food, which was average but by no means offensive. Instead it was the standard of service and the treatment we received that let the side down. After ordering a goats cheese souffle it arrived adorned by walnuts, something I had asked the waitress to remove. I advised that due to a severe nut allergy I could not eat this and that I would not be able to eat the souffle if the walnuts were removed as they had made contact and I could still have a severe reaction. The waitress was very apologetic and disappeared into the kitchen, only to return two minutes later with a souffle without walnuts. I asked if was the same one, reminding her I could not eat this and being well aware you can't cook a souffle in 2 minutes. She appeared uncomfortable and when she went into the kitchen (which I could clearly see due to it being next to our table) the head chef scowled through the door at us and then advised it would be 15 minutes for another. I avoided a starter altogether, had an average main of steak and then a bland treacle tart to follow. The waitering staff were lovely, but the chef showed an utter disregard for my well-being and tried just to blag it, something that as anyone who suffers a nut allergy knows is unforgivable. In addition to this the front of house manager (who was lovely I might add) was necking half pints of bitter almost constantly in the small bar housed in the dining room. When it came to adding up our bill he was slurring and unable to work a calculator. I'm hopefully not a difficult customer, but the owners (this being the chef and FOH manager we found out) need to take a more serious and professional approach to their responsibilities as restaurant owners. Otherwise they may waste the good reputation afforded to them by their predecessors.

We arrived to a freezing cold pub to find our table wasn't set. An hour after arrival, having gone to the bar for drinks because we weren't allocated a waiter, the second course was plonked on our table. It was a sliver of smoked salmon and an overdone egg. Eventually cutlery arrived. The main course - a school dinner style plate with no garnishes arrived eventually followed by a tablespoon or so of pudding. The fifth course never arrived. The waiter refused to speak to us and so of course coffees were not even a possibility. One table got up and left and the young couple next to us were absolutely distraught at the cost for what this turned out to be. I have requested a partial refund as they obviously didn't deliver what was advertised and have been refused. We walked in to the restaurant to find it was practically busy (granted it was a Saturday night). Normally when you walk into frankie and bennys your greated in a positive manner but last night we got far from that. After asking for a table for two the lady confusingly looked around and without any type of dialogue, or smile, she just walked off. We assumed to just follow her then when we got to the table she just walked off with no dialogue, didn't offer us anything which made it very impersonal. For our starters we had mozzarella sticks which were lacking any cheese at all. And the calamari was too crispy and tasteless. We had a 15" Italian hot pizza for a main and chicken and mushroom pasta. The pizza was undercooked. Like really undercooked. At first glance it looked like a great pizza but after one bite all you could taste was the soft uncocked dough which was still mouldable. The pizza fell apart and I struggled to eat any of it. We were told they did have a brand new kitchen in which could explain the change in the usual good food. But overall the meal and experience was lacking satisfaction and we came away very disappointed and wished we ate somewhere else. Thankyou ZP.

Well I'm sorry to say I wasn't impressed. The place was not busy, there seemed to be 3 serving staff on plus a drinks waiter. None acknowledge me when I walked in and after a good 3 or 4 mins of standing there the drinks waiter assured me someone would be with me. I waited. A party of 4 turned up and he did the same to them. A waitress appeared and without acknowledging me, took the party of 4 to a table. I waited. I was left standing there like a lemon. I should have left then but I persevered and another waitress showed me to a booth and left me with a menu before I could order a beer. I spent the next 10 minutes trying to order at least a beer as others were shown to seats and offered a drink. Eventually I managed to catch the eye of the waitress who had shown me to my seat and I was able to order - although it was clear she didn't know the menu so I ended up pointing at things - I don't think her English was especially bad although it didn't seem to be her first language so I was patient. I'd almost finished my beer by the time the food came. It wasn't until I was half way through the plate that I realised no one had brought me any sauces, I tried to catch the eye of a waiter but I was finished eating before anyone showed any interest. All the time the restaurant was less than half full. I'm Wrote this over my beer at 8:30 on a Weds evening so hardly peak. The food was just OK not very tasty, not bad but nothing special. I did the only thing we Brits can do, I said nothing, paid the bill and shock horror, left no tip. That's the first time I've done that for years. I won't be back here again in a hurry, it's left me disappointed in F&B. 2 stars because 1 seems harsh but I was tempted.

The Storyteller Restaurant is supposedly inspired by southwest (USA) cuisine--Navajo maybe--and the…read moredecor suggests that it is. However, a not-so-close exploration of the menu makes it clear that the owners aren't quite sure what their theme really is. There are items like Po' Boys and Jambalaya from Louisiana, Elk burgers presumably from the north, a curry that's Indonesian, and Korean Style Kangaroo Rump from ... well if you have any sense of geography that's just confusing. Similar to the spread of items on the menu, the presentation of the food also reveals that the owner or the chef isn't quite sure what type of cuisine they're serving. Our quesadilla was served open face as a tortilla with all that should have been between two tortillas lumped on top; I'm not sure what that is but it isn't a quesadilla. The Po' Boy was a shrimp salad served on crostini rather than tucked into a mini loaf of french bread. Neither of those dishes is supposed to be pretty or beautifully arranged. To do so just misses the point. So the food wasn't authentic. How did it taste? Meh. I've experienced better. We ate our meal as if it weren't southwest-inspired and tried to enjoy it as just another meal. The soup was tasty. The quesadilla was Meh. The po' boy had too much sauce. The ribs were tasty but too dry. And I'm told that the burrito wasn't anything to write home about. Lastly, the service was pretty good but there were only three tables of customers in the restaurant. So, bottom line? I've had better but I wouldn't refuse to go if someone else really wanted to go.

Blake didn't tell me how much my bill was and I just offered my card, paid and left so I could get the kids and myself fed. When I got back to where I was staying rhe children were disappointed by the fact there was the smallest amount of chips with their side so they had some of mine. Later that evening I checked my bank and realised I'd been charged £23.10!!!! My parents, who we were away with, had ordered 2 cod and chips with a small curry which came to £18 which is about what I expected my bill to be. I immediately contacted the shop via Facebook to basically be told I'd got what I'd asked for and that was the price!!! I was told I'd ordered a LARGE cod and LARGE chips which bumped the price up an EXTRA £5 to my parents bill. The customer service qas just awful, it was all my fault for not hearing that asking for bottles of water added an EXTRA 75p onto my bill, it was MY fault that Blake had charged me for a large cod and large chips....there was nothing any different to my meal than there was to my parents, infact their fish was much nicer, mine was just dry and greasy. I will NEVER visit this chip shop again and unless you have super powers with your hearing, to hear the unsaid, then I'd urge you to so the same. This experience ruined the end of our holiday!!!!!
