They have all the instruments so anything your kiddo likes they can try. The instructors are mostly previous students who are still "young and cool" so they have a great connection with the younger crowd. One on one music lessons are available and or join the school band that is tailored to their age group. They play in shows and practice together regularly to form lasting friendships with their band mates. Everyone who works here is fantastic and very musically inclined and knowledgeable. We finally feel like we've found our music home for lessons and all around musical enjoyment. Seen the movie? Yeah, this place is even better. Try it out, you won't be disappointed.

Went up to playing his first show on drums with the band, which they happily named The Snake Skulls! Price can get a little steep, but if you can afford it, it's one of the best places we've been for music lessons. The staff is amazing and welcoming. Kyle was terrific with the kids and would always stop to talk music with me when he could. Jeremy is extremely helpful with anything you need and would answer all my questions about drum tech, even helping us find a good deal on an electric kit for our son to practice on at home. Hopefully one day, we will be able to start lessons here again.

Suburbia continues to surprise! My family went tonight to a performance at the Chestnut Fine Arts…read moreCenter in Olathe for my sister's birthday. The current show is "Sentimental Journey," a revue of '40s music (with some holiday standards from that period worked into the show). My expectations weren't high, thinking it might be a bit amateurish. Well, anything but! The show was totally professional, with three of the four singers being Equity artists. The cast was very appealing, with fine Broadway-style voices, and attractive costumes (the women had great '40s hairdos!) and staging. The singers were accompanied by a piano, bass and drum trio, headed by Brad Zimmerman, who seems to have founded the Chestnut a decade or more ago. He also sang a couple of pieces. The selection of songs was excellent and representative of the period, the arrangements were perfect, and the performers were clearly enjoying themselves having an opportunity to sing such great tunes. The show was definitely on the level of those I've seen in much larger and supposedly "more sophisticated" cities, like San Francisco or New York. It's very much like the Quality Hill Theater revues downtown, just out in Olathe. We all enjoyed the show very much and will definitely return for other performances. Check out the Chestnut's website for their schedule -- subscriptions are available and probably advisable if you want to be sure of seats for their most popular shows. The space at the Chestnut is small, so it feels like you're at a cabaret. There's really no bad seat. The theater seems to be a rebuilt and expanded old house, attractively decorated, with a small stage that they've clearly learned to work with. There's plenty of free parking, on-site and across the street. Urbanites (and others) are encouraged to come check out the Chestnut! It's easy to get to on I-35: just exit at Santa Fe (135th St.) and head west to Chestnut, in downtown Olathe. There's a signal at that intersection. Turn right and you'll find the Chestnut at the next corner. Upcoming shows this season include a holiday concert by the Dickens Carolers on Dec. 18 and 19, and a New Year's show called "Memories are Made of This" featuring Dean Martin songs from the years of the Rat Pack. Other shows (see the website for details) will be "This Land is Your Land," a folk-song revival; "Godspell;" "Crooners," featuring popular songs and ballads; and "A Tribute to the Boy Bands," from the Beach Boys to the Beatles, the Osmonds, the Mills Brothers and the Ink Spots! Sounds like there will be a lot of enjoyable music to see and hear in Olathe this season!

The things one does to be able to spend the day with their Mother. Over the weekend, I attend a…read moreshow here with my mother and her Church Lady Friends called 'First Ladies of Country'. Now, I am not a Country fan, but my mother is and growing up in a household listening to Country I knew any of the songs, and acts that were performed. I will admit I do love me some Patsy Cline. I didn't really consider her a Country artist, but to each their own. The 3 main tributes were Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton. The show was performed by 3 main stage Ladies who did most of the Cover songs either as a solo or all together. They had a band that consisted of a piano, bass guitar, steel guitar, and a percussionist. They were great, they clearly practice, and put a lot of time and effort in perfecting their craft. Now I will admit I don't know how much the tickets cost for the show, my mother bought them. But I do know that she is a season ticket holder and stated they were reasonable prices. I know she enjoys doing these things with her friends. The area was somewhat small, but really there wasn't a bad seat in the house, which was mentioned many times when I was there. The parking area felt even smaller. Good thing the church ladies carpool. They recommended pulling in backwards to the parking spot, as it is easier when exiting the small lot. There is a small concession area I believe for during intermissions. I enjoyed myself, but mostly so I could spend the time with my mom while visiting. Would I go again? Only if she wanted me too, but otherwise no. I felt out of place, and it just wasn't something I would normally go see. Was it great for the majority of the age group, YES, did they have a blast, YES, will they be returning, HECK YES. Thank you to the staff and performers for a great show, even if it wasn't my cup of tea.

The buffet has 4 lines and a lot of food options. The buffet is also all you can eat during the time frame it is open. I believe it was open for about 30min. I was full after my plate. I had forgotten how truly good the food is here as well. The show is broken into two half's which seem to go by really quickly Even though showtime runs around 1 1/2 -2 hrs. It definitely didn't seem it. Our seats were second row from, the back and it was easy to hear and see the performance! They did a great job of building this location. During intermission the staff comes around to bring out desserts for those that ordered them. As well as get any refills that are needed. I would recommend taking in a show here you won't be disappointed.

We enjoyed the show Cactus Flower with Marilu Henner and the incredible John Rensenhouse. They were magical. The food tasted OK, but it was not super warm. Sometimes it's hard to keep buffet style food warm, and that was the case here. The salad brought to the table was very lovely as were the drinks and our server. It's probably not the theater experience that we usually have and I'm not sure we would return, but it was a fun time. The room is absolutely enormous, and it was nearly packed full so they are doing a great business and are recognized as the top dinner theater in the country, so it's definitely worth a visit!

It's about the first Native American woman, a Kansan, to argue in front of SCOTUS. Of course, she had to have a man sponsor her at the time. There is so much more to her story and that of her sisters who fought valiantly to preserve their Native American ancestors' burial site. It's a fantastic documentary! The building is beautiful. Yardley Hall is very nice. I didn't realize how many shows they have each year. Tickets range from around $12-$47 for most shows. I did not see all the show tickets but the price range for the Blind Boys of Alabama coming up in several weeks and the tickets ranged in price from $32-$47 each. Keep your eye out for a show going on and check out this great facility! And watch Lyda on KS PBS! Public television is amazing and under attack right now by our current administration. We connected with Michael about hosting a movie night for our volunteers and staff at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, and he immediately responded to our request and scheduled a time for a site visit. From our first interaction, he was friendly, genuine, on time, and communicative without fail. He has immense knowledge about his industry & equipment and has an impressive arsenal of processes in place so that his team is ready for anything. We had to postpone our first date due to weather, and Michael was in communication with us the whole time we were working to reschedule. We even had a hiccup with our planned site the night of our rescheduled event, and he and his team pivoted their entire set-up process like it was nothing. As a person in the events industry, I cannot say enough about their unwaveringly calm demeanor and creative problem solving. The night of the event, they arrived with plenty of time to set up the screen, sound system, lights, and popcorn machine. Everything was set up on time and looked organized. The screen was bright and displayed the picture beautifully, and the sound system was top notch. Michael and his team worked tirelessly to make our event seamless so that our staff could enjoy the event as well, and they thought of every little thing. They were prepared for anything & the pinnacle of professionalism, and I cannot wait to work with them again!
