We didn't mind. After all, there were TWO pubs in one TINY village! ;) When we returned from our obligatory pub visit, Linda led us upstairs and to our room. Do you know how sometimes places look clean but don't smell clean? This clean room smelled GREAT! Then, I went into the bathroom. It was completely remodeled and very modern. I was in heaven! A quaint, clean bedroom with a clean modern shower! There was even a place for me to sit down in the bedroom and put on my makeup. I decided to use it for sitting down and reading a daily devotional, but just having this wonderful space was a plus. Did I mention there was a fireplace? The next morning, Linda cooked us "whatever we wanted." My partner happily ordered sausage and eggs, and I ordered bacon and eggs. While we waited, I looked around the family dining room. There were wonderful family pictures--Linda and Ian Smith's wedding pictures, their children, etc. My partner meanwhile marveled at his freshly squeezed orange juice and some of the woodwork in the room. Then, the food came. The bacon was the size of 4 American slices stuck together but a lot thicker. Everything was delicious, but after we ate, we felt like we needed a nap! If you go to this area of England, stay here! The Smiths are very congenial people, their accommodations are clean, their food is outstanding, and the village is picturesque. When we arrived at the 139 in Bath, we were shown to the waiting room and served a nice beverage. The host knew exactly who we were and addressed us by name. We felt welcomed. The room was comfortable and beautiful- very classic in look. We had a great sleep on the bed, like I mentioned- comfortable room! Squeamish skip this paragraph... When I arrived in Bath I was deep into my trip and short on socks. The sock bag in my suitcase had reached critical mass and was going to be a new kind of 'Dirty Bomb'. When asked if the 139 had a washer and dryer, they said of course. They braved the bag. I got my socks back the next morning, folded. Thanks! Breakfast the next morning was wonderful- fresh eggs, great bacon, crunchy and chewy bread (ok so I'm not a food writer). Lots more options than a traditional eggs and bacon breakfast were available. Thanks 139 for a wonderful experience. It's been a couple years since we stayed, but the memory is fresh in my mind.

The suite had two bedrooms, which was nice for a family, but being a Georgian house, there were quirks. The floors were very uneven, to the point that I would feel vertiginous walking around. The bathroom had uneven water pressure where the temperature fluctuated wildly, and there was not enough counter space for 4 people. There was a nice sitting room but definitely not enough closet space. However, the location is so lovely. It's about a block from the Pulteney Bridge and also a block from a full sized Waitrose. It's a short walk to the train station, Bath Abbey, and the Roman Baths. Staff is friendly and generally competent. The front desk staff was a little confused and slow, and, while the rooms were generally clean, I don't advise that guests look under the beds or behind the furniture, as those are very dusty (ick). I love that they leave biscuits to go with tea daily and that they actually replenish everything on a daily basis. Those biscuits were life savers for my jetlagged children whose stomachs were not yet on UK time. I contacted the hotel a couple times before we arrived. They were not able to help with arranging for a babysitter (they told me to Google "Bath" and "babysitter"), but they did give me good information about a wheelchair rental for my husband. I would consider returning here on a future visit.

No room for their luggage. Not even enough room in the bathroom to use the toilet. Poor lighting as well. Our room was not clean, light bulbs were out, used bottles of shampoo, no body wash, caps on the shower floor, refrigerator not working and there was no air circulation. I had to wear shoes around the room after I saw what my socks looked like after walking on the floor with only socks. We were better off sleeping in the hall. They must have problems with that room, because there was already a portable fan in the room, which it merely moved warm air around. There was no proper walkway for a normal person to get to the bureau, which also had coffee on it never mind someone who has a disability or a wheelchair. Plenty of lighting in our room, though, even with missing bulbs! Breakfast food was ok. It was too complicated to sit at or around the bar in the evening. Two different buildings, too. One building had many rooms, bar, checkin, breakfast, etc, but there was a completely different building that was close, but not close enough to be convenient when you need ice or talk to staff when need something for the room. The wifi is absolutely horrible in the 2nd building. It never worked. Needed to use data or stand by the door to the room to get a bar of wifi. The main building had no issues with the wifi. If you are traveling with someone and need separate beds, DO NOT stay here. They'll give you a cot for the 2nd person to sleep on. They do have good security with the front doors, but that's the only positive thing I can say about this hotel. They only offer breakfast. No other food during any other time of the day. Radisson needs to get their act together. I very strongly do NOT recommend staying here.

I believe there are two ladies that run this B&B, there are a lot of stuffed animals, but if you can get over that, its PERFECT! Great location, Great Breakfast! This is my most favorite place of the cotswolds! The location of the hotel is excellent; it's about a mile outside of Bath's center and offers amazing views of the surrounding hilly region, and the walk to town is a beautiful stroll along the Kennet and Avon Canal (unless it's chilly and raining hard in which case the cab ride is short!). We took an $8 cab ride from the train station when we arrived in Bath. It is the superb service at this hotel that makes this five-star rating such an easy choice. Sue, Grant, and the other members of the staff were amazing. In particular, Sue went out of her way on several occasions to make our experience extraordinary. We first arrived at the hotel from London after a long day, and her graciousness and hospitality at that late hour made us feel completely at home right away. After learning our preferences, she made reservations for us at two wonderful restaurants; in general, her knowledge of the surrounding attractions, restaurants, and shops seemed almost encyclopedic. She is very, very good at what she does. Our room was relatively small and meticulously furnished. Details were attended to, and the view of the attached gardens was peaceful and beautiful. The hot water pressure wasn't great, but I'll live. I can't recommend this place more highly.

First, the place is perfectly located about a mile outside the center of town, so we could enjoy the brilliant views of the hills surrounding Bath from our window, yet still have easy access to town. We parked our car in the driveway (a major bonus in this densely populated area) and left it there during our entire stay. The location is quiet and secluded, but we didn't feel isolated or distant from town. We had easy access to everything we wanted to see and do in Bath within a 15-20 minute walk. Also, Tasburgh House is midway between Bath and Bathampton, so the two quaint pubs in the latter (the George and Bathampton Inn) were easily accessible, either from the road in front or from the tow path along the canal running in back of the House. Second, the place is gorgeous. The grounds are meticulously manicured in true English fashion, and the building has exactly the old-world charm that we Americans were looking for. Our room was comfortable, if a bit small for our US tastes, but the absolutely spectacular view and prime location made up for any small criticisms that we might have. And the breakfast! I'm a huge breakfast fan, and the simple "continental" breakfast was unique and delicious. I expected danishes and jam, but we got this scrumptious Bath granola, fresh fruit, local cheeses and meats, natural yogurt with mango purée, and coffee in a French press. Yum! When you think "quaint English inn," Tasburgh House is probably the picture you have in your head. Sue and her staff were so friendly and helpful, too. What a joy. Organising a trip with a group of friends is never easy. If they all live in another country with a…read moremulti-hour time difference between you and them it's even tougher. But from my first phone call with Wendy at the Old School, I knew if anyone could make our dreams of a car-less, stress free, food forward holiday in the Cotswolds come true it would be her! Wendy sorted out transportation from the Kingham station to the Old School and our people carrier was there waiting as soon as we stepped off the train. We stopped en route at Daylesford (highly recommended) and bought some fantastic food souvenirs. When we arrived at the Old School Wendy warmly welcomed us, showed off each room and then let us have our pick. Not long after she met us in the sitting room with plenty of tea and two types of cake. Prior to our arrival she'd booked us a table at the nearby Red Lion Inn for dinner. As we left to head there on our first night we told her about a walk we planned to do the next day. At breakfast the following morning, Wendy let us know she'd given it much thought and come up with an alternative walk that would require less time on the road, more time on footpaths and a stop at a country pub. We were sold and she gave us a map as well as verbal and written directions. Hours later, after we'd finished lunch at the pub, we received word from our server that Wendy had phoned to make sure we'd gotten there and to have him remind us not too eat too much since she was preparing our Thanksgiving dinner. I don't think there was a single thing we wanted for that Wendy did not provide: - An extravagant four course Thanksgiving dinner at a very reasonable £30 per person - Rubber boots, gloves, hats for those who forgot theirs to keep us warm on our walk - Clotted cream (because I love the stuff!) - Transportation to and from the station (hello hassle free!) - Tea and homemade cake each afternoon She even laundered my friends' jeans after they got muddy on our walk. Have you ever heard of such hospitality anywhere, ever? The Old School is an absolute dream for folks wanting a food-centric holiday in the Cotswolds. The breakfasts, bundled into the nightly rate, are dreamy indulgences which include yogurt, numerous fruit compotes, cereals, smoked salmon, tea, coffee, toast with homemade jams, eggs any way you like, bacon, sausage and black pudding. The B&B makes an excellent base if you want to go walking and take in the gorgeous countryside on foot. I feel as if I've stumbled upon a unique paradise in my discovery of the Old School and can't recommend the place highly enough. My only disappointment? I didn't spot any stoats while at the Old School. Pretty sure that means I shall have to return soon to continue my search!

My room was very comfortable and quiet. I believe there are only two other guest suites in the three-story house, and everyone has plenty of room and privacy for themselves. During the day we all adventured our separate ways, and it was a treat to reconvene over tea or the next morning's breakfast and compare travel stories. The Old School is an easy walk to a local pub for dinner and ales, and is also a short jaunt to a local garage where you can rent a car. It's well-situated as a base for daytime trips as far as Stratford and Bath, though there's more than enough to see within 15 or so miles of the Old School. Leading up to the visit, every step of making arrangements with Wendy was easy and pleasant, allowing me to focus my mind on the fun side of planning a vacation. Wendy is also an excellent resource to those not familiar with the area. She loaded me up with maps, brochures and advice to make sure I had everything I needed to make the most of my brief visit. I could have stayed another week, and am already plotting my return with friends and family in tow. Definitely book a visit - you'll be so happy you did.
