Came to check in a little early and room was not ready and was told to come back at 3 (check-in time). I understand that was my risk. We waited in the restaurant/bar area and came back to the desk at that time. We were told again, it still was not available. Went back to the bar area. Checked with the desk at 1545, but STILL room was not ready. We were compensated with drink vouchers. We finally decided to leave the hotel & come back later. We asked the receptionist if we could get to the area around the Hotel New York by water taxi because we had heard another couple earlier that day enquire about one. She said yes, it was possible & we should take one because we had never experienced it before. She then proceeded to give us metro directions? My husband & I looked at eachother, then asked her again how to get there via the water taxi. We told her about the couple earlier that day who was looking for one. Their reception clerk called the company and set everything up for them. Our clerk looked confused & didn't even know there was a water taxi stop right behind the hotel! She had to ask the male clerk sitting next to her. She also told us to just wait out there because they make rounds every so often & to check the timetable on the board outside. We walked out back & that was false. No timetable & definitely no rounds. Once we finally came back & were able to check in, the same female clerk gave us incorrect directions to the opposite side of the hotel. Her lack of knowledge was really frustrating throughout the whole experience. To make matters worse, we get up to the room & the sun was setting & the curtains were wide open so the room is baking hot like an oven! Air conditioning is non-existent although they advertise it gets down to 18 C. We left a key in the wall in hopes when we returned from a night out it would be cool. Again, another disappointment. Room was very, very basic and bare. I guess you get what you pay for. We went down to use our drink vouchers and sat outside because it was cooler than inside and the breeze was nice. We literally watched a couple walk in with their own portable air conditioner. Luckily we had our own fan in the car! The next day at checkout, we mentioned the heat and she had an attitude and replied "well yea, its hot everywhere." This is really unfortunate since we had high expectations from our experience at the Student Hotel the night before at the Hague. At the Hague location, they provided us with friendly customer service, popsicles at checkin and even a sweet treat at checkout. read more
