This place is old, the bathrooms are small, there is no water pressure there is no counter space, the towels feel 20 years old, there is no elevator and the stairs or narrow and steep. The stay just don't seem to care about anything. You can hear everything that happens in the hallway and the room next door. If i had paid a lot less, my expectations would have been a lot lower, but at 300 GBP a night, i expected more. On the positive side, the whisky bar is fantastic and the bartender very knowledgeable with a keen sense of finding just the right unusual whisky for you to try. The restaurant is good but both times I've dined there they have been out of several items - including the burger. Overall, stay somewhere else and drive to Abelour to enjoy it

I had the "bacon and egg filled roll". It was HUGE (and quite inexpensive). It's essentially bacon and a fried egg in a sandwich bun, but it was the size of my hand. Neither my boyfriend nor I could finish one! They do have a vegetarian version of the roll, as well as a "Vegetarian Breakfast" for any vegetarians out there. Breakfast is included in the overnight price and you are able to choose from a comprehensive list of choices: Vegetarian. English, Continental, kippers....muesli and juices are self service. Evening dinner is served in their welcoming restaurant. The menu holds steak (rib eye, sirloin, fillet), chilli con carne , burgers , fish and chips and much more. The staff is very nice. Evelyn made my breakfast experience a delight and did not rush me to finish off after the breakfast deadline expired. This hotel is good for families, groups and singles alike. I can imagine that during summer time it can be very busy. Aberlour and other distilleries are closeby, some are even walking distance. I will definitely be back!

Alas Yelp was of little use (I've found that outside the US Yelp is a poor representation of dining options). I tried the Sunninghill for diner at the suggestion of a local shopkeeper. The Maître d' told us they were booked until 9pm (a good omen) but she would try to fit us in. While waiting we sampled their extensive selection of fine scotch. The bar staff was friendly and helpful. Once seated, the restaurant service was warm, and food was served promptly. All was good to excellent: well prepared and presented, although the meats tended to be over cooked. Desert was well worth the gluttony.

It was their out door fairy lights that won the decision for me if I'm honest. Not knowing the town at all it was a case of a lucky guess with where to eat, and I'm so glad we did. The place was deserted! The staff seemed delighted to have something to do. Not the businesses fault...as I mentioned...flood warnings! Actually the next day Banchory was closed :o Now, I grew up on the coast, and I think this might be the best fish and chips I've ever had! My goodness! The thick batter was just out of this world, and the handout chips, while sparse, where utter perfection. The deserts were also remarkable. Although I think the blueberry cheesecake won, on taste and decoration. Blueberry sorbet! A new thing I now need in my life on a more regular basis. The staff were delightful, chatty and helpful. The decor was quite upmarket with some wonderful prints of highland cows and deer on the walls. I am so pleased we stopped off here before heading home, I can't recommend it enough :D

I wouldn't recommend staying the night but I would recommend a reservation for dinner here just to have the experience. The negative: I felt like the price wasn't worth the stay. The pool was not open. The salon and spa were not operating during our stay either. These were some things I was looking forward to. I made the mistake of assuming and not asking because they are featured amenities when booking the hotel. There were also a few little things amiss. For example: trash behind the bed, the handle bar for the shower bar was missing a gasket and kept falling, the trash can in the bathroom was broken, the room was really hot (they did have a fan). Just a lot of small things that add up. The positive: The breakfast, dessert, and drinks we had here were delicious! The bar is pretty well stocked. I have a dairy allergy and my waiter and the cook took care to make sure there were no cross contamination's. The area around the mansion is gorgeous. This is a great place to take some fun pictures! Overall we did enjoy our stay. The staff was lovely. They do all leave for the night which is something to note. The place just needs more love and care.

Our room was charming, the bed incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom was one of the nicest we had during our whole 3 week trip to the UK. Breakfast was delicious as well! The interior of the mansion is beautiful, but clearly is in need of some care. For example, we noticed an incredibly large rip in the felt on the pool table, there were a few spots where we noticed wear and tear on the walls, and our bedspread had a few spots where either someone burned it or it just wore through. We chose not to have dinner at the mansion because even though the menu at the restaurant looked amazing, it was VERY expensive. I'm very happy we chose to stay at the Mansion, and hope to visit again - it just needs a tiny facelift to be perfect!

The resturant downstairs had a large selection of meals available. I recommend the steak. The portions are excellent and are served by pleasant and attentive staff. After dinner, we headed through to the adjoining bar for a few drinks (I'll admit I had one too many). I was pleased to see a good selection of local whiskeys, very pleased (haha), which were served in 35ml nips. There was also a large selection of other drinks, for those who don't drink whiskey, like lager, cider and ales. The bar staff were friendly and talkative, as were the locals. When they could not fit…read moreour family in at the B&B Inn for our whole stay they suggested we take a family room in the bunk house for one of our nights. So having taken a family of four to both Ill give you some tips. They are both lovely ways to stay but if you want your kids close and safe while still having a door between you for alone time with your partner stay in the inn. If you plan to make your own meals to save money stay in the bunkhouse. But even if you choose the bunkhouse it's worth paying for a breakfast in the Inn.
