The waiter (a high school student) made a fresh pot for me without complaint. Some outfits make rather weak coffee. Even espresso joints that roast their own sometimes make weak drip coffee. But Family Table's coffee was strong and black. It was great for washing down a hearty meal and it kept me awake for a long nighttime drive to Fort Dodge and then to Des Moines. The waiter saw I was thirsty and put an insulated carafe on my table while I chowed down. Even after closing time (i.e., after 21:00 or 9PM), when I got up to pay, they hospitably talked with me at considerable length. The manager came out from the kitchen and joined the conversation, and he gave advice on how to find my way back to Fort Dodge. And he warned that I must look out for deer while driving through Humboldt. And thank goodness there was no television, no electronic noise, nothing to spoil the homey feel.
