They completely gutted both bars and it has been lovingly restored to a classy Victorian back street boozer. As a free house they usually have 4-5 real ales on tap which are well looked after and maintained. The clientele are a mixed bunch representing most of the community in Hythe. They have regular live music performances and held a real ale festival in August which was very popular, with over 30 ales on tap at various points of the weekend. There are two bars, and there is the idea to introduce food on the right hand bar at some point. The garden has been completely worked over to provide a covered and heated smoking area, and this has been very popular. Busy on the weekends. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare, so use public transport

I was raised partly in Italy and this was some of the best Italian food I've had in 15 years of visiting the U.K. since I graduated Uni there. An Italian family own and operate the place and they're hospitality is second only to the food. Absolutely amazing meal, just tell them what you don't like and they'll bring the rest. A perfect place to rest and recount our adventures for the day. There were quite a few diners in, and the space seemed a lot larger once inside, with a bar and several rooms to accommodate small and large parties. We were seated near a party of 10! Service was friendly and leisurely, which we welcomed. Only one staff was taking and distributing orders and he advised of the delay in service. The food was delicious and had we more time in town, would likely have dined in again.

For families like us, they do have high chairs. They will take your order if you sit inside. There's also an outdoor garden however you need to come to the counter to order. Same with drinks. Each room has a lot of history. Take one look around and there's a lot going on. Apparently this location used to be a part of monastery and has evolved over the years now to a great pub. Each dish we enjoyed, the vegetarian linguine was fresh, chips were delicious and the fish was wonderful. And when the sun comes out, as it did today, this is a great spot for feasting on traditional fish and chips with a few beers in their garden. The building is functional and non-descript you don't come here for the architecture but as part of a Dungeness afternoon of delights including a stroll to Derek Jarman's Garden (http://www.qype.co.uk/place/439630-Derek-Jarmans-Garden-Folkestone) and a journey on the mini-railway its perfect. The meal I had (sausage and mash) wasn't particularly good value at a shade over ten pounds. My friends had chosen a better value meal in the form of garlic chicken which was served on giant oval plates for around ten pounds. Service was very good, the food was served good and hot and there is the full range of pub drinks (including a good range of draught ciders) to take advantage of.
